Anyone know anything about these guys?

I just did a trip up into Maine and it's time to take the bike out again this year. I'm leery of new groups since they rarely are what I hope for them to be. It's hard to find a group of people that ride the same or want the same things out of a ride. I've tried to ride with my local BMW group but it just didn't suit me. Looking for a little more entertainment from a ride.

I don't have the luxury of getting away for a big trip again this year so I'm looking to find something interesting to get into.

sorry I have no fing clue who you guys are.   anyway that bmw is impressive

No worries I've been mistaken for someone else before.

That is not my bike or video, the SDR is not jschaf's. I tried to follow him around one sunny day and it almost looked like the two in the video except there was never a time when the BMW was in front of the KTM. I still have the BMW, Jim's KTM SDR didn't like the way it was being treated and decided to part ways with him. Now I am stuck riding with the adventure guys.

    Maybe

    @Uncle Punk

I am a definite no for this year guys. Between home remodeling and another ride already committed to I can't find the time for this event this year.

    Have fun everyone.

  4. Hey you damn kids, WTF is a key bump?

415 uneventful miles on what turned out to be a beautiful day. Should have went to eat with you guys though since my nephew bailed out on our plans.

That was probably the best epic ride route yet.

  5. Would it be possible for one of the moderators to put the time, location and route information visible on the first page? I guess if that's too hard just reply that information to me because I'm special.

And another thing, the Gap threads are lacking information on the first page too. Am I gonna have to get Casper to fix all of these shortcomings you rookie moderators aren't able to handle without adult supervision?

  6. I don't know about the new bike but I am friends with an ex AMA racer that was an authorized installer in Iowa whose opinion I trust and respect. He swears that it was life changing for the old 1800. They even kept a demo bike on hand to allow test rides because the product sold itself.

You should try getting to the shop in Georgia when you are down at the gap to see if your opinion is correct for this new bike.

  7. Where 611 quits being called South of the Mountain road and becomes Blowing Rock Road at 619 there is a little sign in front of an old garage that says "Blowing Rock Community". Every house you can see from there and the next three past 619 is family to me. Love that area and plan to spend more time there every year instead of the couple times a year I get there. I am familiar with the Pine Mountain Trail from the Tower to Elk Horn City well enough to be a guide.

Are we talking full size passengers or is the baby back? 😂

Baby is getting dirty just sitting around the shop. Full size passengers only.

Let me take your woman for a ride to see how she likes a full size experience.

No I am not. Left last June to go to work for my kid. He threw some serious money at me, and a way cooler job. Office is in Stow.

What a wonderful opportunity working with your son. I worked with my dad for ten years and really miss those times.

Are you going to Traxxion Dynamics the new bike?

Shepard trail starts after leaving Harlan at 2.24 stops at shell gap (turns to dirt) south on 2010--522 to Cumberland then down 160s to Black Mountain, Highest point in KY.

23 to pound then 197 to the Breaks state park. then to Pikeville, KY. - 119-49 to Historical Matwan (Hatfield/McCoy)

    all great roads.

This is the video I wanted to post.

Next time you are in that area instead of taking 197 between Pound and the Breaks Interstate Park find your way to 611 on the Virginia side of the state line. It runs mostly parallel to 197. There is an observation tower up a dirt/gravel road about five miles off of 611 called the Birch Knob Observation Tower. I've hiked between the tower and Breaks park several times. I'm in that area along 611 a couple times a year visiting family about two miles from that tower.

Budget,  dont really have one. The couple Im looking at are used $7000 and under as I really don"t plan to keep it more than this season unless it completely impresses.

The Midget part, I just unhook the kickstand safety switch so I can kick her down at lights if theres no curb to pull along. You merely adapted to the stuby life, I was born into it lol

You could pick up a bike like mine for under $12K and not be bored plus it carries passengers just fine.

  12. The two factory demo bike wrecks weren't as bad as it might sound, both were paid for rides at a track.

First bike was a KTM 450 Supermoto. Ktm did a demo day at our local circle track that happened to have a gocart track inside of it. This was around 2005 or so and I think they charged $50 to abuse their bikes all day. I had no idea how to properly ride a supermoto at speed yet that is exactly what I tried to do. Left hand sweeper going about as fast as the bike would go the front end just drifted out from under me. It wasn't a compression lowside like you expect from a lot of front push it was just a nice calm drift out from under me. I know better now and try as hard as I can to put more weight into the front end when riding a supermoto. The bike was put back into service after all of the mud was removed from it. I was not permitted to ride anymore the rest of the day.

Second bike was a KTM RC8, this was 2011 or so, also my last time on a track. Ktm trackday at Mid-Ohio you pay to ride a regular trackday only you use their bike. Last session of the day if I remember correctly. I'm basically on the track by myself and a little tired. On the out lap going slowly just kinda casually getting around the track. I get to the keyhole and I'm poking along when suddenly the bike accelerates, some sort of stupid twin tractor governor bullshit that I have no idea about. I'm not going fast enough to worry about being off of the bike and think that I shouldn't be going any faster without being set up for it. Instead of pulling in the clutch to stop the acceleration I tap the front brake which put me and the bike down into a nice slow speed lowside. Completely my fault and a completely wrong reaction to the circumstances in front of me.

  13. I have totaled two street bikes, with that I was put on high risk insurance for three years which is $. Not worth letting someone else put you close to or in that bracket for a few extra dollars.

I have wrecked two demo bikes at manufactures events and I wasn't the only one wrecking at those events. Again, not worth the extra money for the risk. Manufactures can afford the loss way more than the rest of us.

With all that said it sounds like I probably can't ride a bike but I'd venture to guess that any of my regular riding buddies would swap bikes with me knowing that I would do what it takes to make the situation right should an unfortunate event take place.

  14. I would suggest a bike like mine but I don't know your budget for a hooligan two up bike.

On second thought never mind. While you might be able to handle it because of riding dirt bikes you could never handle it safely with a passenger because midget.

You @Tpoppa @durk and @Uncle Punk are strong maybes, :D so strong night as well be Yes as of now, unless acid rain or volcanic activity starts around gap.

Not even close to a strong maybe. I have a big trip planned for this summer and can't commit the time to this trip because of it. Not saying that I won't get a wild hair but work and weather have to cooperate.
