Duc guys can't ride. Everyone knows this. Just ask @Uncle Punk.
Prior to riding with TurnOne or Pauly the vast majority of Ducati riders were either slow or whiny little bitches, very often both. Thanks to the excellent representatives that Chris and Pauly turned out to be I have been forced to not dread seeing a Ducati show up to a ride.

Planning to get into Marietta about 11:00AM Saturday morning. Baymont Inn & Suites is the name for the hotel in all of the online sites but my mapping program is only showing Baymont by Wyndham Marietta. Not wanting to assume our way into a mistake which is the correct meeting place and address?

With enough speed you can turn a scenic route into a fun curvy road with the extra added benefit of plenty of danger.
555 ranks for me in a listing of favorite roads but I know I'm in the minority there. I like the little bit of thrill you get from the blind rises.
I will go out of my way to avoid Skyline Drive the rest of my life on a motorcycle.

Damn, UP. You a whiney bitch lately.
I sure have been. Last I bought a bike that I thought would allow me to ride more since I don't have to clutch it as often as the sportbike. I rode a lot last year but have only rode twice this year. Took a decent trip to Maine but one of the days was in a torrential downpour all day.
Have I mentioned that my "mother-in-law" is moving in with us today? She has two dogs that we have had for the last month while she has been in rehab. Will only be released to live with family or assisted living. We are doing so much work around the house to accommodate this new living arrangement that I don't know when I'm going to get out on the bike again this year.
When I do get out I intend to do some hard riding, whatever that means with my comfy old man bike.

Punk, B-Mac, everybody,
JUST DO IT!
I'm a member of the MSTA. So is @Qman. I'm also helping coordinate the event, well, mostly the cooking and restaurant stuff.
I am certain you guys can find a group at this meeting that you will enjoy riding with. There are all sorts - fast, very fast, used to be fast, and then more leisurely (that would be me.)
They post 20+ rides and provide paper maps or downloadable GPX files. The groups usually form up the evening before the ride, though some groups are set and don't change out people very often. But there are signup sheets that are for different speed preferences. Then in the morning, usually pretty early, the groups head out individually. When two or more are on the same route they will try to stagger departure times. The routes usually have a suggested lunch stop, but that is optional. They tend to get back well before dinner to get cleaned up and then hang out by the grill or the pool behind the motel.
The event used to run Friday through Sunday and they had two cookout or catered meals. Then last year they changed the format to encourage early arrivals. But the early guys then go to an arranged restaurant - on your own tab. I also help shuttle people to the restaurants. On Thursday we hired the Marietta jitney to shuttle the 50 or so people that were there for dinner time. I am coordinator for the Friday cookout - burgers, brats, beans, slaw, chips, veggie trays, cookies from Walmart, and lots of water and sodas. A lady who hasn't done this before is planning to do kebabs on Saturday. (There's a mex place right next door...)
I really like this group and the Marietta event is one of the largest regional meetings. Last year we had about 130 bikes. I'm expecting quite a few more based on the talk that was going on at the national rally two weeks ago in Bristol VA. You'll find all makes of bikes, lots of BMW's and even a few Harley's and wings. All of the guys and ladies are avid riders. Some will have ridden from CO, TX, WI, NJ to get to the ride. Most will probably still show up on Friday.
Please notice that this is the first year that you don't have to join the organization in order to participate. I think we fired the lawyers. We're about to tell the AMA to take a hike if they keep insisting on getting the members contact info. So, you can just register and show up. But if you register at the event I WILL give you a burnt burger and a crumbled up cookie box with a few crumbs in it. It really helps to have a decent count for planning.
Please consider attending!
How did this turn into a grom discussion??? Oh, never mind.
Chris Shoop
Oh look someone with useful information. Thanks, this makes it sound interesting. Not sure about paying to ride roads I already know though.
Why would you buy a Grom when the Monkey is available anyway?
-
You are right they will fit my bike, killer price too. If I was going to make a trip to California I would buy them in a heartbeat. When the stock rear wore out I replaced the rear with one of these. I hated the stock tires and this was only mildly better than that. They moved all over the place and never could find grip that I could depend on. Now to be fair to the tire I only managed to get 3,000 miles out of either one so I might have been pushing them past their intended purpose. I know plenty of people that really like that tire and I really like their sport tires so it's not a brand thing for me, it's just that using these sport touring tires as a sport bike tire doesn't do them any justice.
Thanks for thinking of me but right now I'm a pass on them.

Next thing you know someone is going to suggest that I get a Grom.

If I have to ride slow enough that a Goldwing will do I'm looking for a new hobby.

Why are you trying to talk to me? Part of this is your fault. One of the funnest rides I've had in years was trying to follow you and now you won't ride with me no more.
-
I don't want to share no common values. I want to ride fast on curvy roads, pass people on double yellows for miles and miles at a time.
All of the old guys are riding adventure bikes now and I'm too big of a sissy to take mine in the gravel.

Anyone know anything about these guys?
I just did a trip up into Maine and it's time to take the bike out again this year. I'm leery of new groups since they rarely are what I hope for them to be. It's hard to find a group of people that ride the same or want the same things out of a ride. I've tried to ride with my local BMW group but it just didn't suit me. Looking for a little more entertainment from a ride.
I don't have the luxury of getting away for a big trip again this year so I'm looking to find something interesting to get into.
-
I'm interested in this too. More specifically a good route from Ironton, OH to Elkhorn City, KY. Staying off of 23 and 119 as much as possible.

sorry I have no fing clue who you guys are. anyway that bmw is impressive
No worries I've been mistaken for someone else before.
That is not my bike or video, the SDR is not jschaf's. I tried to follow him around one sunny day and it almost looked like the two in the video except there was never a time when the BMW was in front of the KTM. I still have the BMW, Jim's KTM SDR didn't like the way it was being treated and decided to part ways with him. Now I am stuck riding with the adventure guys.
-
I'm slightly confused here.
Did I just become Black Cuban Tod?

Riding won't be as much fun without you but I understand the time away from riding after what you've been through.
More Squidly fun.

The S1000XR was able to keep the SDR behind him for a little while. More than I was able to do. @jschaf

Hey you damn kids, WTF is a key bump?
415 uneventful miles on what turned out to be a beautiful day. Should have went to eat with you guys though since my nephew bailed out on our plans.
That was probably the best epic ride route yet.

We need to add an old mans group to the ride. Donuts and pee breaks at a leisurely pace.

Yes, that is possible.
Just for that I'm not gonna look at your new bike lovingly.

Would it be possible for one of the moderators to put the time, location and route information visible on the first page? I guess if that's too hard just reply that information to me because I'm special.
And another thing, the Gap threads are lacking information on the first page too. Am I gonna have to get Casper to fix all of these shortcomings you rookie moderators aren't able to handle without adult supervision?
Posting rides these days?

I miss the old days of the larger group rides. Back then I had a lot more free weekends to ride so if the pace dictated that it needed to be slower because of who showed up it wasn't that big of an issue since another ride would be happening very soon that could possibly make up for the more sedate group pace.
I do have some guilt about using this group to learn a lot of the great roads and not reciprocating so new people can learn them all but I just don't have that luxury of spare time anymore. I have spent plenty of rides helping people get more comfortable at pace or riding sweep to keep an eye on someone struggling.
I am now mostly riding with people that ride the same pace that I do. Most of us have been riding a long time so crashes aren't common or expected even though we all know that they can happen at any time.
