How many have gotten a drag racing ticket
AudiOn19s replied to Rob1647545496's topic in Passing Lane
I was written up for drag racing, reckless op and 53 in a 35 back in HS...Fought it in court and got out of the drag racing becasue nobody else was ticketed...just me (we split when we saw the cop) and got out of the reckless because I wasn't 20 over the limit when he clocked me. Only thing that stuck was speed BUT it cost me a pretty penny for representation to get out of the other 2. Looking back that was not one of my brighter moments in life. -

Huh...I've got the first one too...had it since WAY back when they first came out nearly 10 years ago...and I'm still continually amazed at how well it works. The problem with the first gen ones like the e-bay link above is that you have to be overly anal about setup and leveling of the device. With the newer ones it's a no brainer as it self levels when you set it rather than you needing to level it yourself. I had great success with mine in a variety of vehicles. I even ran it at Trails and it was never further than .1 off in either direction. MPH is alwyas going to read high on the G-tech because it calculates absolute MPH and not an average like the track does...but it's a great device esp for tuning and determining if mods make a difference. And for the price...it's hard to not pick up the old version...althouth the new one in RR trim does some sweet stuff like lap times and other cool functions to help evaluate performance on your PC after runs....the origional is still adequate for evaluating performance through tuning and mods. AGain...the key to the origional version is being overly anal about setup and it will produce great results. Andy

Actually Auto Assets used to be a REVO distributer...BUT it was a limiting thing for them as REVO only is for VAG cars which eliminated the Porsche crowd which is a TON of their business. GAIC now offers the flash loader stuff so they load the new software through the OBD II port on the car instead of actually taking out the ECU and having a chip installed in place of the stock unit. If you're car's not eligiable for the flash loader they'll still have to send off the ECU though...not sure which way it is on the S4....all I know is my GIAC software was an insane difference on my A4 and well worth the ~300 I spent on it. (the car's not fast but at least gets out of it's own way now) I'm sure you know the GIAC x-chip is the most wicked chip out there for the B5 S4...kinda hard on the K03's though if you're not easy on the go pedal. Andy

Awesome looking car man. Props on representing a clean Audi. In all of your posts I never realized that you had an S4. Anything done to it?...did you know that Auto Assets is an authorized GIAC dealer now...I smell an x-chip in someone's future? Andy

Mike, Ha...I saw you looking at my exhaust but I came out of the doors down by Staples and was in a major hurry and couldn't stop to talk...I'll def. flag you down next time I see you. Andy

Thanks for all of the compliments guys!!! Folkvang: Purchased the car used back in Feb. It's an '02 that had 29K miles at the time of purchase. All of the mods are listed in the origional post. Andy
-
ehh...you'd be suprised...all of the expensive mods were purchased used rather than new....and I did all the work except the corner balance and allignment on the car myself. Coilovers were purchased from a friend used 6 months and he decided they were too "track dedicated" for him, shifter came with the car, exhaust - 3 months old, the other stuff wasn't much more expensive than it would be for any other car. My wife drives our '02 M3...what's not to love about the car? Andy

mixture of 1 part woolite, 10 parts water in a spray bottle...spray the surface...aggitate with a soft apolstry (sp?) brush approved for leather, then wipe with a clean WHITE cotton towel (no colored towels cause you don't want the dye rubbing off on the leather). You can use this as a cleaner for all surfaces of the car and you'll even be amazed at it's capability of removing spots from carpeting ect. Safe for all surfaces in the car. If you're doing leather only you can dilute it a litte more like 1 to 15 or 1 to 20 but 1 to 10 won't hurt anything for occasional use. Follow up with some sort of conditioner on the leather (lexol is good) and it will be good as new. Andy

sorry for the oversite man...it's on my banner ad at the top of the page 614-747-0002 for future reference. Andy

Shawn...should have given me a ring...I was right up there in the area and could have gotten you $10 off the auto assets run...I suppose since you got the $$$ help for the runs it wasn't that big of a deal.

Thanks for the input guys. I may go ahead with the solo II school just for the fact that it will get her better aquainted with the car and car control...although I do have my favorite parking lot for teaching her car control picked out but was kicked out by the police last time we were there...oops!! I've been trying to teach her the proper line and corner technique on the street at regular speeds, but the problem with most sweepers on the street is that you can run the proper line but you have to be darn near double the posted speed limit to even come close to the limit of the car. Trouble Maker: Your comments are greatly appreciated. Hopefully she finds someone at the solo II school that can actually teach...as that seems to be my main problem...I understand technique but cannot verbalize it well. We will be doing a tracquest event at Mid Ohio on May 30 in which she'll (and I) get an entire day with an instructor there but I'd hate for that to be her first experience with driving the car near it's limits. For me it should be nice as I've got pleanty of bike experience at Mid Ohio but very little car experience and I'm sure there's lots more to learn on my end too. Thanks again guys. Andy
-
Curious if any of you have done the SCCA drivers schools and if it's a worthwhile program? My wife needs some pointers and I'm the worst teacher in the world...I just cannot verbalize what's going on in my head and have no patience on top of that. Looking to see if anyone here has done the drivers schools and you input on them. Thanks

How'd you like the G2. paint...I'm doing stainless lines on my M3 this weekend and thinking of doing the G2 paint...although I painted the calipers on my Audi last year with the cheap $7 stuff from Autozone that seems to be holding up nicely too...but the Audi doesn't see the track like the M3 does. While I havn't used it I havn't heard many negatives other than the cost of the replacement filters and how often they have to be replaced sucks. I did alittle searching and there tends to be 2 theory's on this issue. One is that the soap tends to be strong on the PH scale and strips wax which helps with sheeting of the water on final rinse in conjunction with the filtering action. What makes more sense to me is that there's an addative in there that actually assists the water sheeting action. While this may sound silly I've actually used a couple of synthetic waxes that were not very slick to the touch and actually promoted sheeting of water rather than beading....so my impression is that it can be done without having a bare surface. Sorry I have no concrete answers though...and can't seem to find them either. I'd say your fine using it for now. Andy

Shawn. call matt @ Auto Assets (793-1050). They have a dyno and if I remember correctly it's a dynojet. I can get you 10% off if you're interested. Andy

step by step... http://www.autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43939&highlight=wet+sanding

Shawn...I'd stay away from wetsanding to get scratches out unless you can only see them and cannot feel them with a finger nail. IF you can feel them...and go after them for correction with sand paper you're going to cause premature clear coat failure in the near future. Sure it will look good for now but when you get that spotty clear failure down the road you'll be highly disappointed. Best bet is to take an abrasive polish and a buffer to the paint and knock down the edges the best you can which will reduce reflection from light and make them less apparent...but generally if you can feel it it's not completely going to go away without sacrifices down the raod. With that said...there's not much to it...use a small pale of water, get some 2000 or 3000 grit paper...saturate it in the water and wet the surface as well then sand the surface in back and forth motions. fire up the buffer or old arm with some abrasive polishes when finished to rub out any sanding marks...then break out the fine polish to finish up and bring back the gloss and finally protection of you choice. I should have been more specific with my contributions but for the E46 M3 Dinan products are inferior and expensive. Dinan plays the Warranty trup card and then have had instances where in fact warranty items were denied because of having Dinan parts on the cars. (a claim actually has to be sent to Dinan for them to reimburse BMW...BMW won't foot the bill) In particular Dinan software is the biggest ripoff in the industry. It provides no power gains and simply raises rev limiters. On top of that the Dinan software locks out adaptation of the factory DME so if you do any mods on top of the dinan software it will make the car run worse and not better because it won't adapt to the new mods. The funny thing is if you look at the product descriptions directly from Dinan they claim 0 hp from their software....here's an attachment from their site "While we can't offer any more power, there is still plenty to be gained from Dinan Performance Engine Software. For example, the software safely raises the rev-limit, endowing the M3 with a broader power band and greater road-speed in each gear. The software also removes the top speed governor, enabling the cars to achieve their natural top speed. While you may not operate your M3 at such high speeds, it's nice to know you can. In addition, programming of the drive by wire throttle system speeds up throttle response. While we may not have actually increased power output, many owners tell us it certainly feels as if we did. The Dinan Performance Engine Software is compatible with SMG equipped cars as well" Other threads on the Software issue: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=57470&highlight=Dinan http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=56367&highlight=Dinan Dinan offers a strut bar for the E46 M3 that offers worse performance at twice the price of a strut bar that already comes factory on the car. Their aftermarket bar is hinged which will allow some movement where the factory bar is solid and the most functional piece that could possibly be on the car. Dinan's CAI for the E46 M3 cost ~$1500 and provides < 5hp. Where you can purchae a K&N intake for the very same car with better engineering, a $300 price tag and it's been proven to make 10-12hp. Dinan's suspension is off the shelf Koni's rebadged and sold at 1.5 times the cost. They don't offer an adjustable setup or coilovers to truely maximize the car's potential rather just a spring and shock combo. Dinan only make a front sway bar for the E46 M3 and not a rear. On a car that has understeer built in from the factory the addition of a stiffer front bar only makes the understeer situation worse and turn into snap-oversteer when power is applied. Dinan's offers wheels for the E46 M3 that are forged, attractive and light, BUT the offsets are such that your car cannot be signifigantly lowered or they will rub...AND they cannot be used with coilovers as they will not fit with coilover suspension. Oh...and they're $1300 PER WHEEL for a 1 piece wheel...that's $5200 and you havn't even bought tires yet. And finally here's a snipit on the warranty http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=36589&highlight=Dinan+Warranty All I'm getting at is that the only advantage of Dinan is the warranty card. Their products are overpriced and don't delivered as promissed. If you're looking to modify a car there are better ways to spend your money than Dinan as many come away with a sour taste due to a product that doesn't deliver.

Derek. I need (2) 275/30/19 Bridestone S03's AND a one time allignment if you can get my car on your allignment rack. Please e-mail me a price as I not only needed rears but picked up a nail the other night to make things worse. Let me know. Andy kutscha@nationwide.com 614-747-0002

I have to disagree with you on the Dinan. Dinan = THE SUCK. Every product they make can be had cheaper and better by another company. Their software in particular is garbage. It has been proven that it produces no NP gains over stock AND on top of that it locks out the factory adaptation in the computer so if you get their software and then get more mods on top of the software...you'll actually loose power becasue the DME won't adapt to the new Mods you've done to the car and either run rich or lean. Turner on the other hand...those guys know what they're doing. Andy

I've seen several discussions in detailig forums about this product and my personal opinion as a detailer is to stay away and spend your money on somethig that actually works. First thing...you get enough product to do the car just about 1 time...that'a really about it. Then it's been proven in test that this product has no more (and in some situations) less durability than other polymer producs on the market. The icing on the cake...is that you've got what they call a 5 year product...with a 30 day guarantee. By the time you realize that the product is junk you cannot get your money back anymore. Trust me....nothing known to man will give you 5 years of protection from a single application...heck...nothing will give you more than 6 months of protection Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THAT CRAP. If you're looking for long lasting protection for your car in a "system" buy Klasse AIO (all in one) and Klasse Sealant Glaze OR purchase one of the Zaino kits. Those are two products that are proven to give the best durability in the industry when it comes to protection...and you'll have enough product to protect and beautify your car NUMEROUS times... Andy
