  1. From a Purist perspective they're ruined the car...but there's no doubt that it'll still be faster everywhere and more comfortable on the street at the same time.
  2. Bought this car off of Dan (TurboNova) about two years ago. It was intended for my mother-in-law who used it for awhile and has now turned into just an extra car. It's nice to have around as a spare but we're without a house currently and too many cars makes for storage issues. This car has been maintained by me the entire two years we've owned it not my useless mother-in-law '02 Jetta 1.8T GLS Red / Black cloth 139k miles Automatic Tiptronic transmission Black cloth heated seats heated mirrors cold ac/ hot heat cruise control Monsoon stereo with cd/cassette Monster / rubber floor mats Moon Roof Power mirrors Power windows Power Locks Service History Dan did the Timing belt service on the car when we bought it from him at 119k, should not be due for a timing belt until the 200k mark. Service Items in the last 12 months Brand new Goodyear tires New euro mirror glass in the side mirrors Swapped all 9 valve body solenoids in the tranny along with fresh fluid New front control arms on both sides Oil changes ever 5k miles with Mobil1 0w40 Dan did the Timing belt service on the car when we bought it from him at 119k, should not be due for a timing belt until the 200k mark. Good: Car is mechanically sound. Just drove it to Pittsburgh for a week and then Cleveland for a week for training. Should provide many more years of service if maintained. My A4 with 1.8T has 220k miles and climbing. On my trips last week the car got 29 - 31mpg depending on speed of travel. Bad: Exterior blemishes on bumpers. At light throttle when warm the car shifts harder than normal on the 2-3 shift. It's done this since we got it which is why I did all the valve body solenoids and tranny service. At anything above 1/2 throttle it shifts perfectly normal. Air pump has broken rivets on it so on cold start it sounds like a Jet for about the first minute until the air pump turns off. $3000 **Pass front fender is getting painted this week, will be fresh paint for new owner** http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6642_zps618c7f8b.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6655_zpsad0e2f21.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6644_zpsdbfbf8c6.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6645_zps305220f6.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6654_zps5db9ec6b.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6647_zps90e0a3cf.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6649_zps08c250a1.jpg http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/IMG_6653_zps91f72a56.jpg
  3. OK...we have a direction on the house now so lets get this thing sold. Car has 64,xxx miles on it now No longer has mismatched tires on the OEM chrome wheels, Nitto Motivo's all around in great shape, fronts have maybe 1500 miles on them. New front rotors and pads all around still in box waiting for sale to install. New intercooler pump New Aux battery sitting on my front step waiting to go in this evening. $23k. Andy
  4. Line was spot on. Hell I usually clip the inside curb on entry to Keyhole when running pro course. Mechanical failures are a bitch. Sorry to see that happen and it esp sucks when it possibly could have been avoided. Can't say I've been in the same boat though. I've come home from the track with cracked rotors (as has Smokey) trying to squeeze a little more time out of them than we should have. My buddy in a white C6Z hit in about the same spot a couple weeks ago when his power steering pump exploded and dumped fluid on his drivers side tires on entry. No fun at all.
  5. That lighting will be good. Opti-coat flashes and disappears...in general it does not need buffed to remove residue you only have to remove residue from the high spots...they'll still appear wet / dark / whatever after the surrounding areas have already flashed off clear. The high spots are like Klasse. They'll still look darker / wet / whatever but they won't easily buff off if they sit too long. First 3-5 minutes yes, miss something and find it later and it'll be a bitch. The trick to getting it is re-applying to that area to basically soften things up with fresh product. With 22PLE you have to remove it like a wax / sealant and it comes off very easily the issue is it smears around sometimes. I use good microfiber for removal. you *can* apply stuff over the top...but the theory is that durability will suffer because it won't bond. Everytime I've tried to top opti-coat with anything it turned into a streaky mess and I wasn't happy with the looks so I just stopped. The weird part is fully cured paint with opti-coat on it feels like absolutely bare paint. It's not slick to the touch, it's almost grabby. You'd think with that texture when cured you could layer stuff on top if you want but I've not had much success. Even my favorite spray wax for cleaning up after washes tends to streak.
  6. I've read reports from guys who got demo rides in them at the Track. Said it's a pretty amazing machine however the electric motors are only good for one maybe two laps around the track before they are out of juice and need to be recharged. There's video of it somewhere I'll see if I can dig it up.
  7. I've used a good bit of both Opti-coat and 22PLE. I've got over 24 months of data points and observations with Opti-coat and around 14 months worth of the same for 22ple. This is all my personal observations. Ease of use: Well neither is "easy" to use each has it's quirks. Both need to be in a very well lit environment so that you can see what's going on with them. Optimum need to go on and flash on the surface. No buffing it off per say HOWEVER you do need to go back and knock down high spots that you'll see because they aren't flashing as quickly as the rest and could cause a variance in color. 22PLE wipes on and needs to set there for 2-3 minutes and then removed. 2 brand new towels are needed for removal and those towels need to be thrown away after application. First towel will remove a good bit of residue but the 2nd is needed to really get the surface clean. As the towels soil it really starts to smear around quite a bit before it comes off the surface clean. I usually end up using more like 3-4 towels for the process. I give the nod here to Opti-Coat by just a smidge. Durability - I don't have enough time on 22ple to be the expert in this right now. Based on industry reports Opti-coat gets the nod here. I can tell you after 24 months on my daily driver that lives outside 24/7 the horizontal surfaces were finally to a point where I wasn't happy with the level of protection from Opti-coat any longer so I broke down and re-applied. All things considered that's pretty darn strong. I think 22PLE is a little more realistic in their marketing claims of durability stating 18-24 months with their product. So far 12 months in with it on one of my other cars I have no reason to believe it won't make that 18-24 month mark easily. That car is garaged part of the time though. So either will make it 12 months easy, if you believe the industry though Opti-coat wins for durability. Overall Looks after application - 22PLE wins hands down. Warmer, deeper, looks good even on dark vehicles. None of it is going to look quite as good as your go-to combo however the 22PLE will be very close with proper prep under it which I'm sure isn't an issue for you. Cost...Meh product for product it's about the same. $70 min buy-in for Opti-coat though you can find it on sale every now and then. Looks like 22ple comes in 20, 30 and 50ml sizes now which is nice for flexibility. Pretty much a wash though. applied on clear bra - Yes I did with both. Mentions - I'm still not sure there's a clear cut winner though my personal opinion is this: I'll probably never test if any of them are capable of going past 24 months. Heck if I can get a solid 12 months out of either I'm good with it. Given that and the looks edge going to 22PLE it's been my favorite as of late. They are both great, you won't be disappointed with either as the root goal is ultimate protection for a daily driver and they will both be up to the task. My gripe with 22PLE is the fact they have a different product for paint and plastic and trim and what not, optimum you put it on everything. Optimum backed off on the recommendation for applying it to glass but it's fine on glass too. I have half a mind to think the 22PLE for metal and plastic is all the same crap just in a different bottle with different label. I personally applied mine to paint and plastic and glass with no ill effects. How much? 20ml will absolutely do your 1 series...probably do the whole car plus windows plus wheels as a matter of fact if you're using it sparingly. You'll probably do the paint with around 10-12 ml of product to be perfectly honest. work slow, use very little product and you'll be fine with that amount. If you are only doing paint I'd venture to say you could probably even do the Z and the 1 series both with 20ml paint only...otherwise go for a bigger size for that safety barrier.
  8. Amazon. I get the motul 8100 I use on amazon for a pretty good deal in 5 quart jugs.
  9. Great seller and subs are in great condition , buy with confidence
  10. Sadly...I'm sure my enclosure will be the limiting factor but if it proves to be junk (it's literally coming apart from chemicals currently) I'm going to get with Josh to see if he can build me something given my unique space limitations that gets the job done better.
  11. I don't dis-agree but this has to go in the Trunk of my Audi with my entire detailing business also in the same trunk...it's completely packed all the time back there. 10" with small box was even in the way. With the old box I tired it sealed at first and was completely disappointed. Once ported it was better. Wheel cleaner pretty much ate it up over the course of 8-9 years.
  12. Looking for suggestions on decent 10" subwoofer. after years of living in the trunk of my car the box and sub finally gave way to all of the chemicals they live around on a regular basis. Amp for the sub is a 400/1 Rockford Fosgate amp...I wish I had more specifics to give but I've been away from audio specs for soo many years I really don't know what more to tell you. Previous Sub was a "Middle of the road" Fosgate sub circa 2002 timeframe. I think it was about $150-200 back in the day. Trick is because of the limited space in the trunk the sub has to be optimal for a small enclosure (.75-.8 cubic feet). Box will be ported because I love Ghetto base for my tastes For as long as the Fosgate sub lasted I'd look into another one without reservations. Was looking at JL Audio stuff but I can't separate nor find educated reviews on WX vs W0 vs. W1 vs W3. I can pick out subtle diffrences but I don't know squat other than the name if you haven't picked that up already. Other brands I should be looking at?
  13. I got an official report from one of my porsche buddies (Earle) who said he had a great time and he suggested the event to our mailing list of over 50 ohio PCA guys. Sucks I couldn't make it this year.
  14. just because I see this car everywhere and it makes me think of this thread...this is one of my all time favorite 964's. http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5485/9378932829_09de8a50f9_b.jpg
  15. Nice score man. Can't wait to see it progress. I like the RS's but anything from the Motorsport line (e26, e88) would be spot on Congrats!
  16. There are some fantastic doin it right remixes out there right now I've been listening to the album nearly daily in my car and I'm not as big of a fan of the originals but the tracks are gong to make the basis for some outstanding remixes.
  17. Worst part...I don't even live over there anymore. I used to take 315 home from work just to avoid this guy when we lived there. I was in the area to look at a friends car and wasn't thinking.
  18. It's the same asshole up to his same old antics. S. Miller...guarantee that's the name on the ticket. My friend complained about him last year because he is reckless in going after people for tint and plates. He got no less than 6 of my friends up there recently. ....oh and he got me yesterday too My gripe is he's such a dick about it. And he only pulls people over for this and no moving violations. If I'm speeding and you want to add insult to injury fine, it disappoints me I get pulled over for only this. Alas, my choice to have tint and no front plate....I'll just deal with it.
  19. I'll listen to anything. I played classic piano for 10 years and every once in awhile catch myself even listening to that crap and being amused. Had my rap phase, had my country phase. BUT what always sticks around is Trance, Hard House, or anything EDM as of late even though I think lyrics ruin that music unless it's the "spooky bitch" singing (Christina Novelli). I'm big into podcasts because it's fresh, free music from my favorite DJ's every week. Top of my list are Gareth Emery Dyro Ben Gold Hardwell Tiesto Okenfold W&W
  20. **Please note I'm posting this for a friend of mine who is not a member here. His contact info is listed below, please contact Ryan directly about the car** I think the time has come to let her go. The car has been great and I know I will miss it greatly. Only reason for selling is I don’t drive it as much as I should and I think it's time for someone else to enjoy the car and appreciate it as much as I do! I am the original owner of the car, daily drove it for 3 years in which I put approximately 33k miles and over the last 2.5 years I have put 8k miles on it. The car has been babied, well kept, adult driven and always garaged. Car is very clean, there is some minor wear and tear on the front lip and hood from normal/everyday driving. The car has never been in an accident of any kind! Track Time: The car was launched at Norwalk 1 time – only time it’s been to/down the track. At that time it had a catback, intake, upper intercooler pipe and a Works flash. Went 12.5 at 110 mph. Two summers ago I went to Nelson Ledges with the car and ran 6, 20 minute heats. Car ran great the entire day and I had a blast. Unfortunately I have not been to a road track since. Car has never been autocrossed. Sorry guys, not interested in trades or parting out the car, including the wheels, unless I have a buyer for the car who only wants 1 set of wheels. 21. This is how a European V8 should sound...
  22. meh...not refined enough if you ask me. I can close my eyes and totally expect a 70's pickup to be making those same sounds.
