  1. Final Prep for the coating, went around the car twice with alcohol / water mixture to remove any polishing oils that might be left on the surface Onto the coating. I've always been a fan of Optimum's coatings but I've become a bit of a CarPro fan over the last few years so I thought I'd keep it in the family and use cQuartz UK edition. Day one consisted of 1 coat to the entire car followed by a second coat on the horizontal surfaces Black Plastic bits got dressed with Black Wow: Finished and tucked in for cure period Day 2: Whole car got 1 more coat of cQuartz UK ...and after 1 hour cure time I went over the whole car with Reload for the final gloss boosting touch And the final result after 2 days of hard work. Hopefully she's good to go with no major service needed for another 3 years or so.
  2. I coated the 'Benz about 3 years ago and it was finally time to break it all down and start over. This is my wife's daily driver so it sees any and all elements and needs the best protection it can get. I have to admit, this is the first time I've really done a full on detail on anything in quite some time and it was pretty fun to pull all the old tools out and go at it. Day 1: Started off with standard issue wash to get things going. Bought Megs ultimate wheel cleaner a couple months ago but first time using it to clean / decontaminate the wheels, did a pretty good job. Next onto body decontamination. IronX first followed by good old fashioned clay bar treatment. Couple of tar issues left over on the wheels / body were spot treated with some Tarminator After Drying it was time to address the nasty drivers side headlight. Passenger one was replaced a couple of years ago and the drivers side unit is really starting to show the effects of the sun. Wetsanded with 500 / 1000 / 2000 / 3000 / 4000 sanding disks via the 3" orbital then finsihed with polishing. End result isn't perfect but it's much better and doesn't stand out as badly vs the nearly new light on the other side. Since we've got the little guy out I moved onto the B pillars of the car and corrected those: Now onto the big defects. A rather large piece of wet drywall fell from the ceiling of our garage a few months ago and while it didn't do massive damage, I did have to break out the big guy to go after some of the defects. Got 95% of them gone without any sanding Did my walk around on the car and marked all the rest of the smaller defects with blue tape for them to be addressed as I was polishing. Thankfully with the coating on the car and the fact it was fully corrected prior to installing the coating before not a TON of work was needed here. Utilized Microfiber cutting pads and Meguiars microfiber compound for this stage via a standard orbital machine with 5" backing plates Final polishing was via my favorite finishing polish of all time, Menzerna PO85RD and a white foam pad. Wish this polish was still around I understand their newer 4000 version or whatever it is now is not quite the same.
  3. The only podcast I listen to that's talk is "Dinner with Racers". Really fun concept and while boring personalities make some of the episodes a little dry, some of the stories are amazing and stuff you'd never get otherwise. Particularly interesting is the fact that these guys don't shy away from the fact that sports car racing's background with crooks, drug money and wild times back in the day. Some of them go on for almost 2 hours and I don't mind it at all, but in general 1 hour is about the limit for my attention span.
  4. I mean IDK what you have in these wheels but B5 and B6 fitment wheels for winter use are stupid cheap. I think I sold the snow setup off of my B5 for like $350 with the winter tires on them when I got rid of them. you'll spend half as much on spacers as you will finding proper offset wheels and just swapping the wheels and selling the old ones. Spacers are a nightmare.
  5. Agree with Chris on the list. Kinda wish I had more seat time to form an impression of VIR but it’s going to take a good bit to move ahead of mid Ohio and Watkins. The Weird thing about VIR is it’s kinda the Nurburgring of the US when it comes to comparing lap times of serious track guys. Given that I have a score to settle with that place considering I ran more and quicker laps in 2 strange cars vs my own before it broke...so we will be back soon.
  6. Good stuff, shouldn't be too bad then if it's just isolated panels and good to know you know exactly what's on there.
  7. I retired from detailing almost 5 years ago...but a couple of words of wisdom. This is going to be above the skill set of almost all of the mobile detailers in this area. Tim is killing it with his work I'd reach out to see what he can do for you. It's going to require more sanding than you probably think to get everything level and uniform throughout and in the end it's a highly labor intensive job. There's likely other issues that a detailer will need to fix / clean up from the paint shop too. It will be very helpful to whomever is going to work on the car to know how many layers of clear are on the car and what the paint is (to determine hardness) to help them gauge the level of effort needed. Otherwise they need to work even more slowly and with extreme caution to avoid going through the clear.

my dad had one in that exact same color combo when i was young. Had suspension mods and a set of gold mesh wheels on it that really set it off. He did auto-x with it when I was young and I always thought it was the coolest thing on the face of the planet. ...but it is slow, sounds like a good buy in my opinion.
  10. +1...best jack around for the money and the only thing that can get under the front cradle of the E55 and or get to the rear jacking point on the GT3. weighs a ton though.... **pending deal on the box**
  11. This was my very first tool box, used it as a secondary tool box for quite some time but it's just not got anything substantial in it and I'm going to consolidate everything back into one location.
  12. TV stand for sale. Approx 43" wide x 23" deep at deepest point and 21" tall. Used for corner placement of TV. Blemishes from use but does it's job and looks decent.

    Wtb LS swap

best way to do this is buy a whole wrecked truck, pull everything you need and scrap the truck when you are done. My buddy did this for the LS swap into his '64 caddy and came out way ahead when it was all said and done.
  15. pretty awesome car and 1:1 power to weight (in kilos not lbs but still) is pretty darn impressive.
  16. I’m incredibly happy and excited for you and can’t wait to ride in this thing around a track somewhere. This is going to be a beast when piloted by you Blue is meh.
  17. if you bought under time warner you didn't get upgraded to newer spectrum offerings when they took over the company. We were under a 30mbps deal with Time warner and Spectrum just kept upping our rate like every month, without upgrading us to the newer spectrum offerings. I've had success in the past calling Time Warner and working with them for another 12 month "deal" but Spectrum didn't want to negotiate. Worked with a retention specialist and the best they'd do is actually give me the 100mbps internet plus my cable and after 30 min on the phone they offered a whopping $15 reduction in my monthly bill which was still $30+ more than if I were a new customer. Switched to WOW and saved $50 a month in the process and that's on their month-to-month service also with 100mbps. If I sign a contract I save another $20/ month for the first year and $10/month for the second year but honestly I'd rather just be month to month I'm fine with it.
  18. is this a mail-in rebate? is there a quantity limit? I normally get the 2.5 gallon thing from Walmart for $52 or whatever it is. This is obviously a better deal but I'd want to buy a shitload to make it worth my time
  19. You'll have a great time. I'd highly suggest a balcony room. If you haven't already booked I'd look at cruises that leave out of San Juan and go to the very far southern Caribbean, those were my favorites.
  20. Blahahahah...Secrets and the Playboy Channel for the win!!! My wife and I did 17 cruises in 5 years when we first met. I've been to almost every destination in the Caribbean that they stop at at least once. My wife is Puerto Rican so we've been other places down there too and spent tons of time on Puerto Rico. I can appreciate all the cool places i got to see when cruising but since going to an all inclusive resorts we have not looked back and really don't have plans to do another cruise. I know where I'd like to visit in the Caribbean and will go there exclusively instead of on a cruise boat moving forward. I'll preach this until I'm blue in the face, Cancun / Riviera Maya has perfected the all inclusive model. It's cheap, it's quick and easy to get to, there's anything and everything to do both at the resorts and in the surrounding areas, or you can disappear in your room for a few days if you wish to just relax and do nothing. Pick any 4 star and above property in that region and you will have an amazing time. Pick one that's adults only if you are traveling as a couple, it's much better without the family distractions. There are party properties with DJ's at the pools, and really quiet tranquil properties and everything in between. The older I get, the more I enjoy down time as I'm usually the one that's going non stop like you. We've been to the #1 rated resort in that area (Le Blanc) and most of them up and down the Cancun strip now and Secrets The Vine is our favorite of the bunch so far. it's on the more expensive end but the food, service, and overall quality of the resort are completely spot on. They have 2 of the most amazing rooms we've ever stayed in...rooms that will make you not want to leave the room all day they are that good. it's in the middle of the action in the hotel zone with walking distance t shopping, a great Pharmacy right across the street :-) and good nightlife a quick taxi ride away. The club area in the hotel zone is like Vegas Friday and Saturday night, tons to do, see, eat, etc. The properties in Riviera Maya are a little more secluded where there's not as much to do around the property, but they are huge and like small villages themselves, in the hotel district they're all crammed together but that doesn't bother me any for what I'm looking for. The most important factor about the resorts in Cancun is the staff, they are genuinely happy to have the jobs that they have, While tipping is also included at most resorts I always take tipping money to take care of the staff. They work hard, they do it with a smile and they are on top of everything you need. We've been to Costa Rica and really enjoyed it, and Dominican Republic but the staff in both of those locations weren't nearly as engaged or happy with their jobs and both their attitude and performance showed.
  21. I actually bumped into Ed today, he said he knows the car inside and out and he can talk pricing with you too. Give him a ring
