  1. held me up for 2 consecutive out laps then eventually went quicker than me by less than a second. It was more drive than car though, the old man was driving the car, it's much quicker in the hands of his son. I'd come onto the front straight right on his bumper and it would gap me half the distance of the front straight over just that distance, but I'd be right on him again by the exit of the keyhole where he'd put lengths on me like nothing else...then I'd catch him in madness.
  2. He did that pretty much all day both days. He’s like the VP of infrastructure for Google and is a paying driver in Pirelli World Challenge...but he must be looking at IMSA or another series because he was running Hankook slicks not Pirelli. Second session Sunday morning we came to the green and he slid wide and I stuffed it up the inside in T1 and he had to follow me that session. He put together a solid flier in the thunder race (where he finished second) that started to show more of the car’s potential.
  3. video of me chasing the M4 GT4 spec car on Sunday. We ran pretty much every session like this on Sunday.
  4. It's absolutely NOT a good value for getting track time, nor is their HPDE program in my opinion. Lots of other groups to run with that offer more track time at a cheaper cost. BUT I've been doing lapping long enough that I wanted something more and a little bit of competition. Thank you sir. Saw you ended up coming off the track on Sunday, something goofy going on with the car?
  5. I've "Bench Raced" TT times for years but have never thrown my heat in the ring and tried it out until this weekend. I've come away with a new found respect for the TT drivers who have mastered this skill set and can go out and quickly get heat in the tires and post a near perfect lap within the first 2-3 laps before they hit traffic and the rest of the session is a throw away. With our PCA DE stuff you go out and gradually put heat in the tires and wait for everything to come in for 2-3 laps before you really start to push, with TT your session is over by then. I also struggled with simply trying too hard, pushing and making stupid mistakes, over driving the car, too quick of inputs on the gas that would unsettle it and too much brake pressure trying to brake at the very last moment. When I finally settled down on Sunday things started to come together but it was too little too late. I set personal goals for myself both days (pro course Saturday and club course Sunday) and fell short of those goals. I had laps on both days where I could have met my target but as stated earlier they were either foiled by traffic, local yellow flags, or driving mistakes from me trying too hard. Final times I posted were 1:30.6 on the pro configuration and 1:33.0 on the club. I was secretly hoping to run a 1:29 and 1:32 respectively and again think I could have with a little more experience in the setting. I was screaming in the car when I was trending towards the 1:29 on Saturday and got held up in a really bad spot but that's part of the game with Time Trials. I did end up winning both days by a large margin but there were only 2 cars in class and not a ton of competition. I was 4th overall of all cars on Saturday and 3rd overall on Sunday. I believe my Sunday club lap is a new TT2 lap record but they haven't run a ton of events on the club course so we will see how long that record stands. If any of you have a competitive drive I highly suggest trying out Time Trials to see how you fair. I had an interpretation of NASA that it was all super competitive racers but came away with the real picture which is that it's a great community of like minded enthusiasts willing to help each other out whenever possible and out to have fun and help everyone else have fun as well. I met some really great new people, had a blast and will be back for more at some point. The best part of the weekend was chasing an unlimited classed factory BMW M4 in GT4 spec. He beat me by a small margin both days but we ran pretty much nose to tail every session on Sunday having a ball!
  6. I agree, but the initial results are disappointing. They were there testing the ZR-1 in full camo last year when we were at the Ring and it looked damn fast.
  7. They did this a few years ago. nearly stock street cars that are capable of these times from the factory are allowed to run without a cage. I think the cutoff is like 10.50 now and 135mph. FWIW - The 2011 997 Turbo S also ran 10.9 from the factory 7 years ago. Should we talk about the disappointing 7:12 ring time for the ZR-1 that was set on the same day the new 520hp GT3 RS went 6:56?
  8. the typical management response to this, because I have this talk regularly, is that it's not what you're making now that will change with hard work, it's what you will make in the future once you show results that can change.
  9. Again, let met state that at 144 month loan on a car is completely foolish if you plan on actually making payments for all 144 months and simply living beyond your means. While I'm not debt adverse the only debt I have is a single car payment but I'm not here to preach about debt and 'Merica or whatever. Let me run this scenario past you. Next year when I go back to Europe to visit the Nurburgring and Spa again which Scenario should I follow: 1 ) Spend $1000 on a rental car for the period I'm there. Spend $2000 on rental car (BMW 135/235) for Nurburgring lapping. Spend $1500 for rental car (Same BMW 135/235) for Spa lapping. OR 2) Purchase a new GT4 or GT4 RS from my buddy who is the sales manager at Byers at Sticker price and do so with European Delivery option. Buy the car on one of these foolish 144 month loans. drive around Europe in a GT4 for the time we are there and do both track events without the need to pay for a rental car ($4500 savings). Drop the car back off and wait for 3-4 weeks for it to show up at home, where I'll then sell it for $10-15k OVER sticker. ...which one should I do? Before you say it yes, I'll have to eat the taxes but the money still works out in my favor.
  10. There's actually a method to this madness, and it's attempting to buy, own and drive a car for 12-18 months with as little out of pocket as possible. Porsche GT cars are trading new in some cases for 20-30K above sticker. More importantly they are holding value and not depreciating in the 12-18 month period and you're almost guaranteed to get your money back should you acquire one at sticker price. Why NOT minimize your payment while you drive it and until you get your money back??? This doesn't work on a car that depreciates, but the Porsche GT market is pretty easy to predict these days.
  11. Looks good. Polish those headlights and fix the ride height and it will be amazing.
  12. #rainlife My old, fat, slow self will be racing karts this weekend with OVKA...you know the vehicles that Circleville was intended for :-)
  13. P.S. When it comes to pads or rotors you need to decide which is the least expensive option to change. Any long lasting pad that works worth a darn is going to kill rotors. You're either going to go through lots of pads or lots of rotors it's just a choice of which is less painful to you.
  14. I used the stoptech sport pads in our old 997.1 Turbo we had as an alternative to the OEM porsche pads, which were pretty good for street pads to begin with. They were pretty comparable to the factory pad, stopped well, held a little bit of heat before they would fall off, dusted pretty bad but no worse than the OEM pads. For the price and comparable performance I'd probably do them again if i ever found an application where i needed / wanted them. I tracked them once in that car...maybe not the best decision. They would go off pretty bad after a couple hot laps, then again that car would go almost 160mph on the back straight at Mid Ohio. I could back down the pace and keep them under control from a temp standpoint but what fun is going 7/10ths. I didn't really expect them to do very well at the track and they pretty much lived up to that so I can't fault the pad for when I tried to use it outside of it's element. I still think my favorite street pad I've ever run in a performance car was Hawk HPS pads. They performed well enough and had a considerably lighter dust than the factory stuff. Ran them in my M3 for years.
  15. I think Amsoil makes great fluids, and I even know a distributor...but I'm over the days of trying to text or call someone to have them get something they don't have to then have to arrange for some sort of meet and greet to get it that's generally not convenient. I'll just get Motul or Endless or other high quality fluids that are arguably better than Amsoil, snag them online and have it delivered to my door for about the same money and much less hassle. I think the market has moved on from the Amsoil model and I'm surprised they aren't struggling to survive at this point. I use: Motul oil (8100 in the street cars and 300v in the GT3) and get it from either FCP-Euro or Amazon I use Endless brake fluid and get it form either Amazon or FRsport I use Millers racing transmission and gear oils and get it from http://performanceracingoils.com/
  16. They are really tempting at the current $210 price point, think they are the cheapest set of Planar Magnetic headphones on the market right now and with GREAT reviews to boot.
  17. ATH-M50x is really the leader here in many aspects if your budget is around $150. Don't need an amp in my opinion. However try the MSR7 too for not a ton more money. But Planar Magnetic units are < $300 now if you really want to make that next jump. Probably need at least an FiiO A3 amp when you start to get into that bracket. Biggest issue with most high end units is they are no longer sealed and won't work in an office desk setting you are looking to use them in.

  19. Memorial Tickets...thought we covered that already.
  20. +1001 on no tan and no black wheels. That said I'd do a mixed color interior in the right situation but it has to have black carpet, black dash and an accent color in the leather. The RX-8 is a pretty good iteration of that. BMW pulls off 2 tone interiors better than anyone on the market http://www.m3post.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=967084&stc=1&d=1390294970
  21. Great car. I'd give this post 3 Schnauzie's but the image seems to be lost forever.
  22. Being more realistic here, I think the 2/4 is where I'd go. When I got my truck I went down this path but for the first time in my life just left the thing along being that the whole reason I bought it was to tow a trailer and knowing that I'd have to add helper bags and work out towing geometry if I went to a the height I was looking to do. I was personally going to go 3/5 with mine. I left it alone and hate how it sits to this day.
