as I"m sure you know the '08 had updated pipes that don't need fixed. I think the 04-05 cars are soo darn cheap for what they are that you'd be hard pressed to really go wrong.

and if they start to leak they leak directly onto the starter and kill the starter almost immediately. The turbo's were really built pretty darn well, but assuming you're looking at like '04's you're going to be looking at a 17 year old vehicle that's going to nickle and dime you with parts that aren't exactly a nickle or a dime. If you're cool with all the labor yourself and the parts not being cheap and have the right mindset around this they are still a ton of vehicle for the money.
  3. Saw automatic and thought exactly the same thing !!!!
  4. That's a damn fast lap. This car is a pretty impressive package.
  5. For those that don't have a reference point, 1:35 on Mid Ohio club configuration in a car with full interior, no aero and the power to weight over 9:1 is a huge accomplishment. Well done!!!
  6. I'm excited to see progress up there but their rates are on-par with top tracks in the region now and a fresh surface still doesn't make it a draw for groups to hold events there. They need to work on restrooms, garages and put facilities in order to bring BMW club and Porsche club back which is where the money is at in my opinion. $220 for a single day of lapping...I'm still going to Pitt race over Nelson.
  7. How often are you going to tow and how far? U-haul trailers SUCK esp for somewhat low cars. id suggest you attempt to load your car on one before deciding that's going to be your trailer solution.
  8. Pickes up a new toy. Kinda counts as a car, more of a driver development tool. Birel R31 with a Yamaha KT100 http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/4718134B-9D2F-4770-8D1C-82726E1E8A5A_zpsghua2q7f.jpg
  9. Coilovers / camber plates / brake pads / nitto NT-01. It would go :42's at mid Ohio. Buddy has a similarly prepped one that's gutted and runs :39's.
  10. Yeah, it's a little finiky but that same basic drive train has been in place for 8 years (over 2 cars now) and continues to take the abuse...it's just high touch between sessions. He went low 1:35's last weekend at Mid Ohio in a car he put together for $20-25k.
  11. what's your honest skill level at the track. You trust yourself to make mistakes that happen as you learn in an $80k car? Current budget go C5Z or E46 M3. Pick your poison the leather jacket and chain or the prick. I did most of my driving progression in an E46 M3 and it's honestly the perfect car to learn in as you can do some pretty stupid stuff and get away with it and it's extremely easy to go fast in that car.
  12. you just got done with the 944 right? Why going away from it already. Great car to learn on. Not very fast but it's caged and everything and as safe as you can be in a learning environment right? Why not track the Viper? Not a great learning tool but capable car and it's already in the garage 1LE goes 100% against light and not going through consumables. You'll be buying tires and brakes as much as you'll be buying gas. It's a highly capable car no doubt, but like a GT-R when they are heavy they do that job but at the price of alot of money in tires and brakes. C5 Z06 E46 M3? RX-7? Chris' car is faster than 99% of the cars out there and within your budget. Chris' car is the best driving front engine, rear drive car I've EVER driven....that's saying something. LS swapped ones work here too and again are plenty quick but I've seen way too many LS motors blow up at the track from oiling issues. Go dry sump if you go LS.
  13. Here was my solution to that: Sell house, move to apartment, get as many garages as you need, keep all cars, be hood rich. Actually wish I would have done this sooner so that I wouldn't have been stupid and sold the M3.
  14. The LTZ and or GMC SLT package trucks are the ones to get in my opinion if it's somewhere you're spending alot of time. They have the nicer / better dash and 90% of the options of a Denali without all of the premium. My SLT is a pretty nice place to spend hours and hours while towing. I wish I had the 6 speed from the newer trucks, as Casey suggested it's worth it in my opinion. That said, if you're really going to be towing in that upper end of the towing range I'd not only consider the 2500, I'd also consider diesel which then puts you in a whole other price bracket. I was towing 5k lbs last night driving into that nasty wind and my truck struggled to keep the 80-83mph pace i was trying to tow at. I can't imagine if I was towing a big enclosed with 2x the weight back there in those conditions.
  15. You're probably going to have to go with a more permanent adhesive sealant like what was suggested to you. I'd have to bet there are cheaper alternatives out there but I don't have enough knowledge in that area to be able to recommend alternatives. Just surface prep the heck out of both sides of the mating surface with alcohol or specific body shop surface prep materials in order to get the maximum bond possible.
  16. I don't think that the collision was intentional at all. There's 2 turns int he whole video and dude crawls through them slower than my grandma would navigate them. I mean the entry of the video is a rather fast sweeper and the van is right on him? Rider WAY over-slowed for the round about and caught the cop off guard. Simple as that. Go to a track day and learn how to ride!
  17. How did it come off? Tunnel car wash? Is the car machine washed? If not, clean the surface with alcohol, use 3m trim tape and some clear silicone to fill the air gaps and it will stay just fine. If you machine wash it...just leave it off. My dive planes on my front bumper stay put when I regularly hit 140+ at the track with the method above.
  18. I thought this went away with the MP cases in the new body trucks?
  19. I think the newer ones do it in a different location when a retaining clip breaks and starts to carve it's way out of the case. I'm a little worried that's the ticking noise i've got going on right now.
  20. Can someone suggest a good shop locally to talk to to discuss transfer case rebuild for my 2008 GMC truck. It's making a ticking noise and has some shaft play. Trying to determine if I'm going to to rebuild vs. Reman vs. Junkyard. Looking for a local shop to discuss options with. Thanks, Andy
  21. Anytime I think of secluded, beautiful white sand beach I think of Flamenco beach on Culebra (Puerto Rico). But We've never stayed on the island of Culebra we've always stayed on Puerto Rico and taken day trips there. The hotels on Culebra didn't look too exotic to me. There's a condo that we rent on the south side of the Island in Puerto Rico when we visit my wife's family that sits on Playa Santa that's another great secluded spot. You could disappear from the world for a week down there but no hotel to pamper you. Not a huge fan of Jamaica as others have stated. Mexico is my favorite travel destination these days. St. Martin, St. John and others are great but can get away from you from an expense perspective pretty quickly if you're not careful. The beach in the hotel district of Cancun and Playacar are my wife's favorite when it comes to soft, white, fine sand. I've said it a million times but Cancun has the all inclusive vacation model perfected. It's cheap, easy and consistent if you stay anywhere that's 4 star rated or above. The only thing is I wouldn't call it secluded. It's hotel after hotel for a few mile stretch of beach. However, there are properties that are smaller, less populated and not very crowded. Look at these 3 in particular if you decide on Cancun: Le Blanc http://www.leblancsparesort.com/ Secrets The Vine http://www.secretsresorts.com/vine-cancun?gclid=Cj0KEQjw2-bHBRDEh6qk5b6yqKIBEiQAFUz29rvhtLrN6LO2yaGvBaCpqXMB9lCKuUvNyOinTWxCX0saAsi68P8HAQ Live Aqua - https://www.expedia.com/Cancun-Hotels-Live-Aqua-Beach-Resort-Cancun-Adults-Only-All-Inclusive.h1140762.Hotel-Information?HotelID=1140762&kword=live_aqua_cancun!e.ZzZz.4830000197245.0.169220107107.live%20aqua%20cancun.live_aqua_cancun&semcid=US.UB.GOOGLE.SEARCH.HOTEL&gclid=Cj0KEQjw2-bHBRDEh6qk5b6yqKIBEiQAFUz29pFvHJNtpuu73MoIy-bR2o99rnA82tOYsjfQIGtBxMoaAtnh8P8HAQ We had an experience at Secrets the Vine back in November that was to die for. I was amazed at how good their food was, we did the honeymoon suite on the top floor with full wrap around balcony and the room was soo great we almost didn't ever want to leave the room. We never had any issues finding chairs by the pool or at the beach. Never had to wait to be seated for dinner. We like to try new places all the time and left and immediately booked Secrets again for this year we were soo impressed. Finally, Costa Rica is also a great spot. It fits the bill of secluded, great properties with good food. We stayed at a couple of properties down there that we would absolutely go to again. The only thing with Costa Rica is the beaches are not "white sand". It's a volcano region so they are a darker, coarser sand than some other destinations. Close to the airport and great. http://www.riu.com/en/hotel/costa-rica/guanacaste/hotel-riu-palace-costa-rica/index.jsp?c3api=2968,36528871810,aud-291349995720:kwd-49143587180&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2-bHBRDEARIsABVM9vb6EN4NUfas5DldmyHxlfwrv9v1YgsQlPg6bJC-dRPbbfontQ_Ggh8aAj7uEALw_wcB 60-90 min from the airport but this one really has the secluded part down. http://www.dreamsresorts.com/en_us/resorts/costa-rica/las-mareas.html?_vsrefdom=dreams-ppc&gclid=Cj0KEQjw2-bHBRDEh6qk5b6yqKIBEiQAFUz29hoXzbkKGqV-cx4OYlO6PP91sGnftbpxnUpjCeDpemMaAmU38P8HAQ
  22. Correct, both GT2 and GT3 were built off of the C4 tub because of increased stiffness.
  23. 996 generation I don't think it's that difficult....at least on the Turbo I know it's not. Remove drive shafts and even front diff if you want. You can use stub axles from other c2 applications for the conversion and to keep the ABS happy. I'd guess the electronics on the C4s are not too much more complicated than those on the turbo. With the 997 generation cars the electronics will throw a fit if you try it.
