  1. Shawn: great event as always. Thank you Greg: I was really impressed for your first time in a car on a track Scott: I knew you would have a blast and knew you would pick it up quick with your background. When you went around Greg while I was in the car with him and threw it into the kink full bore it made me chuckle. You were hustling that thing by the end of the day
  2. Come prepared, all groups pretty much have to state that you are required to wear cotton long sleeves, pants and closed shoes preferably leather. Odds are you will be permitted to wear short sleeve shirts. Some groups even allow shorts but you cannot count on either of those so come prepared.
  3. trying to finish up all the decorative projects back there then I'll take pictures.
  4. We had Sam out to do a concrete patio for us and wanted to report back that you should not hesitate to contact him for whatever you need. He was timely, friendly and got the job done at a great price. No suprises, exceeded my expectations. Give the many your business when you need concrete work done. Andy

    Audi sold!

Timing belt documentation? ...pretty important on these things. Original clutch? You may want to note that it's a 99.5, they did a slight update on the cars half way through the model year which works in your favor because that car has many updates a standard '99 doesn't have. 140k is nothing for mileage if the car's been taken care of. Andy
  6. I have a great story about a 70 yr old and a Maserati...I've never been soo scared and bored at the same time in a car on a race track. Thankfully the alarm kept going off while we were driving to keep me alert.
  7. Blue's are oldies but goodies. Here's the trick with the dust for not only the wheels but as rich pointed out your whole car particularly behind the wheel wells is subjected to this. IF the day is going to be dry which it would appear it's going to be on Saturday you'll be fine heading up there, running all day then coming back home. I'd suggest washing the car either when you get home saturday night or Sunday morning will be fine too. HOWEVER, if you soo much as spit into the wind incorrectly and get that dust wet then allow it to dry again it will never fully come off. Don't fool yourself into thinking you can hose down the wheels and get most of the dust off of there, if you're not prepared to completely and properly wash the car and wheels once water comes into the equation you will be in trouble. Performance Friction had that problem with their old 97 compound pads too. Most of the newer pads don't do this and have better cold bite characteristics but you pay the price difference for the newer technology. The Hawk DTC's I run barely dust more than my street pads.
  8. Welcome. I've seen your work on Autopia. Andy
  9. Rode bikes at Mid O before I ever drove a car there. To be honest the line's no different. I rode what would be considered the "club" line in a car environment, basically safe / late apex in the couple spots where Mid Ohio can actually bite you. Back then I didn't know any better, didn't understand the in's and out's of the track, what it takes to really be quick there and how to really do it correctly. As a student of the sport in general the bike line still isn't any different than the car line, except where we'd be using the curbing for the inside wheels they just use that as a place to drag their knee. Watching the Mid Ohio AMA stuff this past weekend I saw just that, guys with their knees on the curb or even inside grass in spots where I'd place my inside tires there. Interesting thing applies going over the top of madnes (T8 for us car club course guys...did anyone notice AMA was calling the right hander at the end of the straight T6??? ) Anyhow Every time through Leader would fully track out the right hander at the end of the straight, attacking bikes would move right and try to get a head of steam going over the top in madness. Didn't really matter though cause fully traking out and throwing away the entry to the left hander over the top of the hill is still the quickest way.
  10. I'll try to remember to bring the glass, it's nothing special but the focal range is nice.
  11. Define "Big Boy". If you've got up to around 200mm you've got enough. They really aren't very strict about much, you should be able to go find some really good positions fairly close to the track. If you shoot Canon and don't have anything that long I can bring my 55-250 to let you use if you want.
  12. If you've ever been to like Mid Ohio or something like that just throw all of your expectations for facilities out the window, Nelson is a Dump...but if you ask me that's part of it's appeal. We will all fit in the main paddock area right behind pit road. Nothing is covered other than the tech shed so bring a tent or whatever if you would like shade. There are other parking areas I'm sure you're welcome to use but they won't be necessary. They do have running water now and semi-clean shitters that at least do their job. There is a "Bistro" there, it's funny because it's just a food trailer they call a Bistro but the food is actually really very good. I'd bring snacks and pleanty of water to keep hydrated.
  13. Understatement. We put my data acquisition in Chris' car, changed up a few things he was doing out there on the track and the kid proceeds to go out and throw down a flier that I don't even think that I can match in my beetle. Conditions were near perfect with overcast and cooler temps this past weekend and the darn FD was tearing it up as a result. His challenge this weekend will be trying to back that lap up.
  14. signed up to drive, spectating / instructing two weeks in a row without driving was going to suck. Aero Beetle will be there.
  15. Neither is a good platform to modify to 600hp. both are high compression, rev to > 8k rpm and are fairly optimized from the factory at their existing power output. I know HP freaks makes some big power turbo E46 cars but if I remember correctly it requires a motor re-build to lower compression and strengthen the rods. He'd spend more on the turbo kit then he's spend to buy the whole car. E46 cars had rear subframe issues if abused or track heavily. E36 was the same way, Not sure if E92 is the same way and just hasn't show up yet but with each examle getting more powerful and heavier they just keep getting harder and harder on the pick-up points back there. Simple reinforcement kits are available but require a good bit of labor to get installed. Both are solid lifter and need valve adjustments periodically which are some decent coin if you can't do them yourself (shims for adjustment). **edit** Our M3 is my favorite car in the stable if that says anything.
  16. You will learn soo much more in the rain. However, You will also make a HORRIBLE dirty mess of your car and it's much more likely you'll have an off which at nelson usually means contact with a tire barrier.
  17. Who even likes German cars anyhow?
  18. For a beginner lap times should be the furthest thing from your mind. Harry's Lap Timer is pretty much as good as it gets for phones, but to get a high enough sample rate you need to use a GPS cradle mount for your phone to best get a strong enough rate for the app to be accurate, with just the GPS signal from the phone they aren't very accurate at all. Harry's is a pretty cool app for no more than it costs, it even does integrated video and data overlay now. By the time you do the app and cradle though you're at $150-200 invested. I use AIM Solo for lap times and data, much more accurate, does predictive lap timing on the fly for instant analysis from the drivers seat. ...but again, I didn't use any sort of data or lap times until I had years of seat time, it's just not very helpful until you reach a point where you have hit a plateau and are looking for ways to reach that next goal.
  19. Ha. Don't knock the detailing kicks. First shoes I've found that can get wet and dirty on a regular basis without smelling horrible.
  20. Yes, he trained with Todd Cooperrider and has really made a name for himself. I'd say hit up Ryan (forever maker) first to support board sponsors.
  21. Ryan, Addison or Todd are all great options. I'm swamped and unfortunately can't do anything short notice right now
  22. It was my plesaure to work on this car. Great car, great car guy to go along with it and an AMAZING garage setup for me to work in.
  23. I know, but I got to the point where completely rubbed through the rear sidewalls on the fenders and decided to go with something a touch smaller all around instead of flipping the fronts and running different tires front and rear on the car. PM me an e-mail and I"ll send you some pictures when I get out of work. Andy
  24. I have two (2) used Sumitumo HTR Z III tires in 235/35/19 size Across the majority of the surface there's still 5-6/32 of tread left. **INSIDE EDGES HAVE CAMBER WEAR AND MUCH LESS TREAD** If you have a car with lots of negative camber there's not much life left in these, for cars that are not camber challenged there is good life left in them. $75 for local pick-up. Will ship at buyers expense PM me for pictures. Andy
