  1. What cars? Insurance carriers have lists of cars that are not covered that get updatedfeom time to time. Criteria is either unusually high repair costs or statistics that show extremely high risk

    New RS4

It just needed an occasional 200hp bump, not all the time
  3. Yes. My wife and I were down there for a few months working out with Matt and Christian but our impossible schedules made it difficult to get there on a regular basis so we quit going about a month ago.
  4. Owners of this shop are good people, it's a really great environment to hang out at. There was a group of 10 or so of us who all hung out ther and watched the end of the 24 hour sports car race a few weeks back. I'd be down for this event but would prefer it be during the day not the evening. Andy
  5. Kudos my friend. I miss the crew at Ludus but we were having difficulty making the schedule work on a regular basis. Need to find a way to get back down there at least a day or two a week.

I enjoy the fact that it's high performance and N/A. I know it's the purist in me but I can't stand all the turbo and superchargers these days. I realize they are a reality that's here to stay in order for companies to make more and more powerful cars and meet government regulations but I'm just not a fan in general.
  8. I made myself a goal of dropping 20lbs by my birththday on 5/19. I've injured my shoulder like 5 years ago now that required a pin and some rotator cuff surgery to fix. After that I went from 180 to 190 but lost a TON of mass in the process, body composition was way off from where I was. I finally am back to the same strength level I was at prior to my injury but I've managed to baloon to 200lbs all at the same time...not a good weight for someone that's 5' 9" If I could get back to 180 without loosing any lean mass in the process I'd be happy. Not that I'd be lean at that point but I'd be at a weight that I'm comfortable with. Being a former fat kid (pushing nearly 300 in highschool) it's all about being comfortable and healthy these days not winning fitness awards.
  9. I too am glad (at least when it comes to this topic) that I'm >30 now and have a fairly clean driving record these days. we're right at about $2300 a year for full coverage on 5 cars
  10. My only complaint is they should have thrown in a test drive of some sort of a new and exciting car to mix it up a little bit. I know they did the big star little car segment but no test drive and no stig lap means it's not a complete episode to me. They did that alot last year where they had an entertaining challenge but there was no other real content to the show. That show is getting better all the time though.
  11. Intercity treated my car like a priceless jewel when we used them. Took about twice as long as they told me it would though. They used Barrett Jackson and the remote location in the NW as reasons why it took longer than it should have.
  12. You had me at f/r and 2762 fully optioned Bravo Toyota!
  13. What are the specs on this car including sticker in US? I can see the merit in the idea. Performance cars these days have such capabilities that getting them anywhere near their limits on the streets means being very dangerous and irresponsible in the process
  14. This. Don't have to spend $100+ to get some outstanding stuff.

  16. Massive production number bump with the 996 cars, lots of them floating around in the market and people are scared to own a porsche out of warranty. They really are pretty cheap to own / maintain it's just the stigma that they are not. '99 was the first year. VERY early cars had some issues with cylinder linings being porus and the linings giving out. I'm pretty sure most cars effected have long since blown up though. '99 Dash if it's not a full leather car is a horrible dimpled plastic. They fixed the standard dash for '00. My '99 had full leather and it was beautiful. The real issue with these cars is they have a sealed intermediate shaft (IMS) bearing that can go bad. There are upgraded bearings now available and if you make this a maintenance item just like a timing belt would be for another car they will run forever. Most of the engine failures in M96 block cars are from this bearing failure. the intermediate shaft controls cam timing so when the bearing fails timing suffers and catastrophic things happen internally. I think most shops will do the fix to the bearing for $1000-1500. The bearing is cheap, but the tranny has to be pulled to get in there and replace it. M96 blocks tend to have rear main seal leaks. Thankfully my car never suffered from this but alot of them do. Seal is $20, tranny has to come out to replace it so you're $1k in the repair. Most of them just seep though, it's not until it really leaks it needs to be addressed. You'll see puddles on the garage floor as an indicator. So those are the nightmares, Address a couple of things that should be considered routein mainenance and you're good to go. Strong running, great handling, classic design, what's not to like? They've been cheap for awhile though, My old '99 was about as expensvie as you could option one when purchased new ($89k in 1999), had all the right options and when I sold it 3 years ago with only 50k miles on it I only got $26,5 for it. Market's even softer now. Andy
  17. Come over sometime I'll share.
  18. Current stash...notice 2 bottles of French Oak because you can never have too much of it :-) http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q192/ZainoDetail/scotch.jpg Picture sucks: Johnny blue / Glenlivet 21 / Chivas Royal Salute / Glenmorangie 18 / Aberlour 16 / Dalwhinnie 16 / Pinch 16 / Glenlivet 15 French Oak.
  19. Schedule. I do enjoy the cars and coffee events when I can get out to them. Never had a problem picking up conversation with random people at these events that I've never met in person before.
  20. air cooled parts are STUPID expensive. I'd guess 20k for a rebuild.
  21. I've got some catching up to do if I'm going to rack up that many miles. My car may be 7 years old now but it's only got 22k miles on it....'course about 1/4 of those are track miles.
  22. Our insurance changed this year too and I"m not happy about the cost of the shots either but I'm happy to be back on them. For me it was more my asthma acting up that was pissing me off not really the sneezing, snot running down my throat or any of that. To give you an idea of my level of alergy I can be around my brother's dog for about an hour before I basically stop breathing without asthma medication. Even quicker for cats. To this day I'm not sure I could live with one in my house. The dogs we got are hypo-allergenic and do not have an undercoat which helps me quite a bit. However, the little one likes to wake me up in the morning by licking my face, when she does that my face goes numb.
  23. oh, what works better than any of these is to just get allergy shots. I also started the shots when we got our dog, thought that after 5 years I had done enough so stopped getting them back in october. I guess I really took for granted how much they were helping me out, I had to start them back up this month because I was constantly had a runny nose, my asthma was really acting up, etc all as a result of stopping the shots.
