  1. Cool. Don't know if I'd go out of my way to mix with the locals down there though.  My only Mexican "vacations" were in Juarez, but I did get familiar with the residents as I had to work (& drink) with them.  Enjoy the vacation.                                                                 Maybe we'll get in a ride next year.  Considering the dirt.

  2. Definitely don't go to Sandals in St. Lucia.  We were down the beach from them & when we ran into quite a few folks staying there at the local pubs & restaurants we heard nothing but complaints. IMO  it's more fun to book with a locally owned place, rent a car (or scooters) & immerse yourself into the local culture, eat in the local restaurants, drink at the local bars, meet the inhabitants.  We did this in St. Lucia & Puerto Rico (sucks now, since the hurricane, I know. Have some friends down there & feel sorry for their predicament).  Have fun on your vacation Tony.

  3. $25K is a lot of money for a toy. If somebody forced me to spend that much of my hard earned cash on a bike  I'd definitely customize a bit. Probably $20k on the bike & 5k on functional customization. I've been agonizing all over the map on the "my next bike" decision.  My current bike was bought new, on the cheap, is pretty much bone stock.  Not the best but keeps up with traffic.

  4. I ran thru a couple sets of Michelin Power 1s on my CBR. They ran good & sticky but I'm sure they were a softer compound. Those Road 5s look like a the guys that did the power 1s got together with the guys that did the PR4s..  Interesting, but wait & see for me.

Jim what roads were you on? I agree with @Tpoppa I typically don’t see any LEOs except on highways and towns where the speed is below 55. I did earn a mandatory donation this year on 22 where it is only 2 lane but I was not necessarily shocked to see a state boy patrolling there.

83 near Millersburg & 800 anywhere around Woodsfield are the worst. The most recent was on 556.  I thought we were in the clear because we were in a slow blind corner going about 50 in a 55 when the sheriff went by going the other way. I even gave B-Mac the thumbs up.  We continued on another 10 miles or so & I stopped to look at a map.  B-Mac said something like "what are you doing? He's coming",  (Somebody must have called us in) so I didn't get a chance to look at the map.  This year has been the worst one for this so far.  Maybe it's just me & my bad karma. Maybe it's just random, but it's not like they're not out there. Maybe next year will be better. Seriously looking into good radar detectors.  The guys I've been seeing aren't laser guys.

You said "Seems like most every ride I went on this summer I had to ditch the cops."  In the context you used it, does "ditch" not imply that you ran from police "almost every ride (you) went on this summer"?

I'm not prepared to formulate any kind of opinion of you from two posts, but it appears as though you exaggerated, and now want to walk back your initial statement after I pointed out its  absurdity.

No exaggeration.  The 9 of the 14 the rides I went on this summer I passed a cop going the other way at 80+ in a 55. Don't know what they did after that. There is a lot more law enforcement on the nice roads of southern Ohio than there was a dozen years ago. I was just trying to convey this to my friend Nivin., the OP.  You obiously are not a street rider so this doesn't pertain to you. You don't ride with us & have never ridden with us, so unless you do plan on riding with us you have credibility problems with me. Not looking for your approval.

I've heard good reviews from tank, he ran shinkos on his vstrom. These guys were talking about sport bike tires. Swearing up and down that shinkos were better than Pirelli, Avon, and Continental... I gave them room cause it's been a while since I really investigated tires. I buy Pirelli Angel GT because I'm used to them, and know their ride and feel pretty well...

No complaints about the Angel GTs here. Many used up. Price isn't that steep & they work great. Not ready to try any Shinkos. They've made too many crap tires that would dump you on your ass in a heartbeat in the past. They may be getting better but if they get good, I'll probably be one of the last to the game.

  8. 81 in a 60 a couple weeks ago (in my car on the way home from work, lol).  My 1st ticket in 4 years. "I don't know why I decided to speed ocifer.  I haven't sped in 4 years & the 1st time you're right there, serving & protecting. By the grace of the good Lord you pulled me over before I could hurt myself or others."   I guess he didn't take me as sincere so I paid the random tax.

  9. To each his own.  A few drops of dishwashing liquid in bit of water here for the tire changes.  I use the WD40 to clean my rims.  There's a guy on here that swears on the WD40 as chain lubricant. Hell, there's probably a few on here that use it on their whatever.

Sounds like fun.  I went down to Mansfield to look at a ktm 690 enduro today but unfortunately I didn't get to see one because someone didn't update a website. I think ktm discontinued this model so I may be looking at Husky 701s. Sorry for the off topic.  Hope you guys had a "no cops no drops" day.

    Hey guys,

Planning a ride for Saturday 10/14. Weather looks to be almost perfect: 80 and partly cloudy. With it being late in the season, I’m planning to really get a good ride in....in case it’s the last. Hopefully the warmth holds out for another month...but it may not.

Route will be flexible. But I’m hoping to get to the roads up and down the river near Marietta. As we figure out who’s coming along, I’ll make a meet time and place. But I’m thinking we’ll meet as a group around 10-10:30.

Anyway....post up and let’s get one last good one in.

Your rides don't go well when I attend so I'm out. Ride safe.

there aren't enough eye-rolls on the internet for this...

Oh brother!. You probably have a distorted opinion of me because of that.  So be it.  Never ran from the cops, merely maintained the pace..  If I see flashy lights in my rearview & the cop is going in the same direction I am I pull over.   This rarely happens. FUATHYRIO.

  13. Nivin,  You have legitimate questions here.  I like to ride.  I like to ride fast.  The track doesn't really do it for me with the regimentation of 20 minutes on, 40 minutes off, same corners over & over again. I realize riding the street at the pace I enjoy is pretty risky with all the things that are beyond my control such as deer, morons putting their cars in my path, etc., etc, etc. Seems like most every ride I went on this summer I had to ditch the cops & I don't really enjoy that either. Most all the guys I used to ride with don't ride (at least street pace) anymore & Sport Rider magazine is going out of business. I'm not a happy camper as of late.  I'm going out looking at enduro bikes this weekend but I don't know if that's the answer either.  Please let me know what you come up with on this.
