  1. well Ive never been informed of the whole CCW CHL thing anyway... but i see the difference in when and when not to shoot someone..

but i could totally shoot someone, if my family or my child is in danger i would not think twice about pulling a trigger..

Not saying you wouldn't be able to, but most people say the exact same thing. Of those "most" people, most of them will freeze up and realize that they are about to take a life. That scares people and the cannot comprehend what they are even considering doing.

  2. iv changed my mind, i dont want a gun now... I'll stick with my tire thumper...

That guy that want to break into your house and kill you, his gun has a longer range than your tire thumper. And if you throw it at him you only have one chance. He has probably at least 6.

He spun around during the double tap, thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

But then again I live in the woods so I'd prolly just dispose of the body myself.

Stuff posted in the net, stay on the net. :p

Not to mention the psychological effects of taking another life -- are you prepared to do that? Really?

Yes I realize you weren't asking me either but absolutely. His life or mine, I'm not going down with out a fight.

  3. Most civilians aren't going to draw their weapon unless they plan on firing it, but yea it's a grey area. I don't have the research that shows that drawing a weapon will more often than not, escalate the situation rather than diffuse it. If you have legal grounds to draw on someone, then you better be sure you have legal grounds to fire on them.

Of course, this is different if you're a trained Officer of the law.

I can only use terms like 'may' be an issue because you never know whether the prosecutor has an axe to grind with gun owners (politically), or maybe he just doesn't like you and decides to throw the book at 'them types of people that think they can just deal out vigilante justice'.

Agreed. If I draw my weapon I plan on being ready to use it. It won't be drawn as a deterrent but if I am staring down a barrel then I draw and point mine at him and he retreats all the better. Again a gun should not even come out unless deadly force is authorized. I would imagine a lawyer would have an easy time finding you guilty if you drew a weapon when it was not authorized and either escalation a situation or get you for inducing panic or something to that effect. And so others know a gun in a holster on your hip is not grounds for inducing panic.

That's why I don't have one. I don't know all of this. I need to read up on the regs and stuff so that I CAN get one though.

Just take the classes, research the laws and stay up on all the information. I always consider different scenarios I might be faced with and consult people with more experience than myself.

  4. well thats ridiculous! then whats the point of having a ccw or a weapon if your going to get into trouble no matter what?

Huh? Using a weapon of deadly force CHL or not, is only reserved to combat the risk of an innocent dying. If I stole your bike, are you going to attempt to shoot me? It's a piece of property and it not justified to warrant the use of deadly force. If someone points a gun at your head and you cannot run, you are face with a threat to your life and are justified in your actions to take his life before he takes yours.

Threat to life = deadly force authorized

Threat to property (animals included like JRM said) deadly force is not authorized.

The idea is you are meeting a threat with and equal or lesser force, not greater than the threat is.

  5. What an idiot. It's people like this that make the rest of the population scared of the law abiding citizen carrying a gun. It's not even like this situation could have been misinterpreted as a danger to someones life. If you don't understand what it takes to have a CHL and carry a firearm, don't do it. You run the risk of making a situation more dangerous, as we have all seen.

  10. So I watched a video on Open Carry and did not realize that you are legally allowed to have a gun in a holster in plain view in Ohio. That it crazy, scary, and cool all in one. So, without a permit, I would have to take that gun magazine out with the bullets in the mag and set it in the trunk or in the case in the trunk?

Without a CHL the gun needs to be emptied. A loaded magazine seperated from the firearm is still considered a loaded gun. Speedloaders for revolvers are the same way. The magazine or speedloader needs to be emptied BEFORE getting into the vehicle. This makes OC without a CHL kind of difficult if you have to drive anywhere. I do not know what the transportation laws are for a person without a CHL because it doesn't apply to me. I just leave all my handguns loaded anyways.

  11. Yeah, I saw the one video someone posted with the OC in Cleveland or some where up there. The cop stopping them and giving him grief...

I was showing C-bus that video a few days ago. That's why the idea of Oc'ing scared me. Now it doesn't bother me. I probably OC 50% of the time, CC 50% of the time and am armed 100% of the time. It feels unnatural not to be armed. :D

  12. I also urge you to get on those sites and research the hell out of Ohio's gun laws. Know your rights, where you can and cannot carry and be prepared for anything. You may and probably will encounter LE or civilians who do not know the law, are misinformed of the law or hate guns all together. I love ohioccw.org, I have the same s/n on there also.

If you need anything else let me know, I'll help any way I can.
