  1. Those ramps at 79-16 are kinda tricky in a car, I haven't ridden them on the bike. I don't like the traffic through there, people don't know how to drive around that area, they can't stay in their lane, have to change lanes at the last second, all sorts of bad driving going on there, I try to go through town, most of the time, even when I lived out there.

  2. I ride a cruiserish bike and never get on the bike without my helmet, jacket, gloves, riding pants and boots.

Why would it make a difference of what kind of bike you are riding as to what gear you wear?

It SHOUDN'T matter, but I see far more cruiser riders that think they are too cool for a helmet. I've had them practically say that even!

  3. I appreciate all the feedback and experience from you guys :) as a new rider it's infinitely helpful

I bought the Fieldsheer Aqua Sport jacket, and I'm very happy with it. It get's a bit warm when stopped in traffic, but when moving, it's good. Not to mention, I found out after having it home for a couple days, it happens to match my helmet pretty well!

  4. The meeting place is easy, just take 62 from New Albany, through Johnstown, through Utica, then the next town you come to is where they're meeting. One gas station right there at the light!

Hope everyone has a good ride, wish I could go!

  5. So sad.

Too bad these people that don't wear helmets and other gear really aren't too cool to wear helmets, as they seem to think they are.... I see SO many riders without gear, wearing shorts, etc all the time. It's scary! I don't feel right if I don't have my helmet on, boots, jacket and gloves when I ride the bike, so I quit trying to do ride without gear!

  6. Haha I haven't driven my car since Thursday, I'm going out to watch the UFC fight and I REALLY don't want to drive my car...and I LOVE my car haha.

I know what you mean! I work on cars for a living, love driving, but it just isn't the same since I've gotten the bike! I even had big plans to get some of the work done on the cars this year, but that motivation has turned to riding time!

  7. I might try to make this, and even see if my father-in-law would want to go, since he rides, I'm sure he likes to eat, and he likes the blues! Gonna pencil this one in! It's also the week before I go for the BRC, unless I do a walk-in before that.

  8. I'm there with ya guys on slowing down too early! I'm getting better at making it later though. I'm still just used to how well the car coasts when letting of the throttle, compared to the higher compression of the bike slowing me down so much more.

On a side note, it amost felt a little weird driving the car today, since I've been riding the biek so much! It is feeling way more natural for me to be on the bike!

  9. I'm out this time, I forgot we have a graduation party to go to tomorrow at 2:00. Maybe next time!

Is anyone going to the "Fallen Heros" poker run starting at A.D. Farrow next Sat? I'm planning on being there for sure. I'm kinda anxious to meet some of the other OR members! I may also make it out to the OR bike night sometime!

  10. Yeah, today wasn't so exciting, the riding I got to do was to Pataskala and back, then down the road a few miles and back.

I would like to get down to Coshocton to chack out some more of the roads, but it's about an hour and a half or so just to get down there from here!

  11. I never even got a reply from my online parts request, and this is for ninja 250 parts, and my friend called them, and just got an immediate "no" when asking about parts for his Ninja 250. Keep in mind that this same bike was in production from 1989 thru 2007, so even though our bikes are newer, par5ts we were looking for would work off some pretty old bikes. Maybe they just can't keep parts for them, since they are good "starter bikes", and I'm sure they get beaten up.

  12. Citing saftey as the reason I'm sure you wont get too much hassle from your wife....good luck though. Those pants with armor in them are like 120 dollars at Pony....yikes!

Yeah, that's the approach I'm taking, although she's really wanting her own bike, so she might not be wanting to let me right now.

I was looking at the Fieldsheer pants, since I'm happy with my Fieldsheer jacket, running anywhere from $100 to 180. Still not sure what I want, that's part of why I haven't gotten any yet! I guess I need to get in there and try some on.

  13. I'm a gear fanatic as well, especially after crashing in full gear, I'm still sore as shit, glad I didn't find out what it felt like to ride without gear....ouch.

I want to get some pants with armor in them, but I might have to wait, since the wife is gonna need to get some stuff to catch up with me on gear. THEN I can get more stuff. Maybe I can sneak in a pair of riding pants before she gets a bike though...... We ARE talking about safety here, and I'm oushing the bike more than she will be for a while.... Hmmm...

  14. I got to take my first long-ish ride, for a purpose this evening!

I was getting home from work, dad called, was broke down outside of Coshocton. Wife was supposed to be going to take her test to get her MC temps, so I had to make a deal to let her do it Tues morning since she goes in at 11:00. I get to stay here with the kids until the sitter gets here.

Anyway, I run to the shop to get a few wrenches, then head to Newark to pickup the parts, and fill the bike. From there I hit 16, and headed!

FIrst off, I had forgotten that it was 65 MPH from outide Newark, until it went back to a 2 lane. That's the longest I've done at speed. No problems at all, even on the 2 fiddy. I just tucked in a bit, and went with the flow.

It was pretty much just a nice ride from there on out.

Also, I can see why the Coshocton area roads are so fun! I was only on some of the mild ones from what I can see, but it was still nice! Still working on getting rid of my chicken strips, and I think this ride helped a little!

  15. After reading posts here on OR (ATGATT!) and other safety articles around the net, I almsot never get on the bike without a minimum of boots (work boots) jacket (was at least the Carhartt until I got the fieldsheer) and gloves (have "mechanic's gloves with knuckle protection, or for cold riding a pair of shift gloves)and always the helmet. Once in a while, when I'm working with the wife on learning to ride, I'll do some maneuvers without being geared up, mostly in first and second gear though, and she always wears all that she has.

I get points from the wife when I talk about people not wearing gear being a bad idea, or when they do squidly moves, etc.... Especially since she's learning to ride!

  16. It's not looking like I'll be able to go this time, a friend and I are going on a poker run next weekend, and I rode down to Coshocton this evening to rescue my dad from the side of the road on 643. I got a SLIGHT taste of how fun those roads down there are, and I con't wait to get to ride some more! The downside is that it was about 135 miles round trip, and I was just barely through Coshocton. It might take some sweet talking to get permission from the wife, or maybe just some time for her to learn more stuff on the bike!

  17. On my ride last Sat afternoon, I had to do a couple panic stops (OK, I could've made it through the lights, but chose to work on my braking) and I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that I was using the rear fairly heavily, but not to the point of lockup. All instinctively, without thinking.

Rear disc brakes FTW!!! Too bad so many DS and offroad bikes come with drums still!
