Rant on Craigslist Cheap-o, Wanabe, "dont have that much" people
Bubba replied to flashesbuck's topic in Daily Ride
@Bad324 If you're serious about buying a bike, Brian Mullins (Kanatuna on AFJ) just posted an ad here in Cinti on the CCR FB page for a '98 Superhawk with OH title for $2100. Not a creampuff, but prolly a good deal. And since this thread isn't a For Sale thread, I don't consider this shitting in someone's FS advert...IJS. -
Gun sport? She was competing in air rifle! Since when did BB guns become lethal weapons?

@Idiot From the sounds of your response, that makes you a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. Not a bad thing, but somewhat difficult to find a tenable position from which to act. The problem I see is that nearly everyone in the country--voters on both sides--are looking to the federal government for a fix. Problem is that whenever you try to go for "The Big Fix" it entails creating, maintaining, and growing an ever larger, more powerful and expensive bureaucracy to accomplish the desired goal. And of course, it's funded with your money, and rarely improves the quality of your life directly. I think the only feasible solution lies with greater funding at the local level and smaller funding of the central efforts. We should look to our central governments at the federal and state level to take care of the big things: funding and maintaining an army for the stability and defense of the nation, creation and adjudication of the laws, building and maintaining public infra-structure (roads, water, sewer, power grids), and ensuring a stable economic central monetary policy. Nearly everything else, and primarily our social needs and problems, should be funded at the local level which results in a much smaller government entity and greater effectiveness at flowing money to the necessary areas. This philosophy used to be what the core of the Republican party was built around, but their vision was lost decades ago and now, the two-party system...isn't: voting Democrat or Republican basically accomplishes the same thing--your money will be spent on growing a central power bureaucracy whose main aim is ensure it's own ever-expanding existence. On that note, I'm heading to the garage to do an oil change on my KTM...

@Idiot I'm not necessarily espousing Clarke's rhetoric, merely quoting it. In truth, it's no more or less inflammatory than the rhetoric put out by BLM and other liberal media outlets. Does language like this lead to a more productive conversation about finding a solution? Don't know, but I'm in my mid-60s and I've seen the the cold war fear of nuclear destruction on my parents' faces as a kid in the 50s, race riots of the 60s, the peace protests during the 'Nam war era, the emergence and justification of rabid extremism in politics and religion, and we don't seem to have crawled very far out of the sewer yet.

Speaking of a media circus, anyone see the editorial by Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke? Strong words from a public figure. Quoted: "The Milwaukee riots should be the last time the policies of liberal Democrats are held up as anything other than misery-inducing, divisive, exploitative and racist manipulation of the urban populations. Unfortunately they won’t. As Sheriff of Milwaukee County, I am furious that the progressive left has put my citizens in harm’s way and that I had to send my officers into cauldrons of anarchy and hatred that were created by the left. As an elected public servant I am livid that Milwaukee’s pathetic, kowtowing city officials and aldermen take this opportunity to abandon their citizens and preen before the Black Lives Matter-enabling media. As a leader who understands that freedom and earned success are the pathways out of the ghetto, I’m disappointed, too, in any Republican that feels they need to tiptoe around the patently obvious issue at-hand: we are folding our society of freedom ensured through law-and- order over to bullies of the left. The politicians and talking heads on both sides of the aisle who offer little resistance and total cowardice." "The failed progressive urban policy causes anger and resentment in people that simmers below the surface. The officer-involved-shooting was simply a catalyst that ignited the already volatile mixture of inescapable poverty, failing K-12 public schools, dysfunctional lifestyle choices like father absent homes, gang involvement, drug/alcohol abuse and massive unemployment. Here are the facts: Milwaukee is run by progressive Democrats. Their decades-long Democrat regime has done nothing to reduce these urban pathologies, in fact, their strategies have exacerbated the situation by expanding the welfare state. That things have not improved and in fact worsened in the American ghetto after eight years of Barack Obama is remarkable only to those who have not been paying attention to our nation’s cities." "There’s only one answer, which is for the citizens of America to expose and heap scorn on this lying and dangerous triad of big government, liberal mainstream media, and the lost souls of the urban ghettos both these institutions feed upon for their power. A self-examination and self-criticism by the underclass is in order as well - as is an admission by Progressive Democrats that they have failed Milwaukee would be the first step in reversing this urban decay and reversing the growth of the underclass and their accompanying cultural rot. What happened Saturday night and again Sunday night had little to do with police use of force – it was a collapse of the social order where tribal behavior leads to reacting to circumstances instead of waiting for facts to emerge. The law of the jungle replaced the rule of law in Milwaukee Saturday night over an armed career criminal suspect who confronted police. Four other people were murdered in Milwaukee in separate incidents before the cop shooting and no riots ensued." "The actions were the manifestation of a population with no hope, no stake in the American dream that could provide advancement and purpose and pride of self. They are the ones lied to, exploited by and ultimately manipulated by the Democrats who claim to care. They are victims of the left, but they are not without blame. It’s time for them to remember their own humanity, their own dignity, and to fight for that return to the American Dream that the left would withhold from them." http://www.thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/crime/291435-sheriff-david-clarke-liberal-politics-and-media-fueled-milwaukee Waiting for instructions from the electorate as to how much I need to send as reparation for being self-supporting and independent. And in case you hadn't noticed, our money isn't buying much in the way of quality roads. IJS...

@Gump No, no...you got it all wrong. You're thinking like a white man. Not having to take accountability for your own actions or your own well-being means you're entitled to free stuff. To note: "It's sad because you know, this what happened because they not helping the black community. Like, you know, the rich people, they got all this money, and they not like trying to give us none." http://www.dailywire.com/news/8361/watch-rioter-tells-reporter-rich-people-they-got-chase-stephens

With those mods, it makes it a little more complicated to trouble-shoot. I'm with the posters who suggested unplugging the PC to go back to the OEM map to see if it fixes the glitch. Or it could be something as simple as the TPS needing to be reset.

Don't have it. Never will. I much prefer the voices in my own head to the mewling of kittens...

Not quite as tasty as the SD but a bit more suited to touring. I bought a '12 990 SMT, which is still WAY MORE GONZO than this old guy needs. Just ordered a set of Pirelli Angel GTs from MSS and gonna slip the new shoes on the Katoom and take it on the LocalRiders fall trip in Sept.

Only thing I can add that might even be remotely of value to your question would be suggest keeping the trailer you bought for just what it's designed to do--hauling materials like mulch/gravel/dirt/straw/etc. Consider either buying a small single axle box trailer--they can be found fairly inexpensively on CL--for those times you need weather protection for your stuff, or simply rent one from U-Haul.

Can anyone recommend some curves close to the Mason/Maineville area?
Bubba replied to Giff74's topic in Daily Ride
Go south, young man....to KY, that is. You live in the geographical middle of Suburban Hell which includes mini-van-driving soccer moms, malls, gridlock, and intersections every 100 yards. One glance at Googlemap will show you it's futile to ride anywhere nearby, leaving you two choices: head to southeast OH or due south across the river to KY. If you have interest in exploring the roads in KY, lemeno. -
@ScubaCinci Joe: I'll chime in here just to remind you that if you're on the hook for route planning to the NC area, most if not all the work has been done for you. Just go to the LocalRider forum and search the Touring thread for any of the recent (last 3-4 years) Fall Trip threads. My recommendation for most fun/twisties would be the 2014 route (p#6, I believe) that Dice and I worked on. Not the fastest way down, but you'll never be bored. Hits all the favorites like Black Mtn, 16/Hungry Mother, 421/the Snake, 209, and a few that most have never heard about...like Hayters Gap. Two day ride with an overnight in Abingdon VA. Other routes used by Bannister and Scott Hyflyer go east thru WV with a stop at Hillbilly Hot Dogs and an overnight in Raleigh, then down the BRP.

OB: Problem is you're located about equi-distant from the OR folk in either NKY, C-bus or Cinti. It's hard for me to justify riding 2 hours over to SE Ohio to ride the good stuff when I can be in NKY in 20 min. If you ever git REAL LONELY, shoot me a message if you're interested in rolling south into KY. We could meet somewhere between you and me (extreme SW Hamilton Cty). I just got back from a hot ride of over 200 miles today down toward Mt Olivet.

Any interest in trading for a set of like-new SW-Motech Blaze luggage? Purchased for a 2010 Zed1K and the mounts bolt to the passenger pegs mounts. No idea how similar/dissimilar your newish 10r is to that. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/sw-motech-blaze-sport-saddlebag-system-kawasaki-z1000-2010-2011

There are a lot of incompetent and ill-trained motorists on the highways these days.

As it currently stands, we actually use MORE ENERGY (in terms of BTUs) of FOSSIL FUEL in the planting/fertilizing/growing/harvesting/drying process of agriculture of corn for fuel than it produces. It's a negative sum game, and only financially feasible due to the subsidy the federal government pays to the farmer for growing it. If the conversion of biomass to ethanol ever becomes economically feasible, then maybe I can accept the rationale behind using ethanol as a fuel. Until then, it's nothing more than a political lie about "sustainability" being fed to the consumer. And it fucks up my carbs and plastic tanks and other fuel components.

Isn't that redundant?

Got a good buddy who's WIFE decided he's got too many bikes. I know he's a got a clean SV1000S in silver with the fairing and aftermarket hard luggage that's on the chopping block. Very clean, not molested (i.e., mostly stock) and low mileage with heated grips, prolly a +/- 2004/5 vintage, priced well under your price range. Think he's also got a nice VFR 800 in the pre-VTEC motor and the sweet-sounding gear-drive cams and 2 Brothers exhaust that'll be going up for sale in the near future. He's located in northern Cincinnati. If you're interested, PM me your contact info and I'll pass it along.

Ouch. I remember the initial coverage of the accident, but didn't know the outcome of the trial. Sounds like a case of both an incompetent prosecutor and jury. I've ridden bicycles on the road for decades and had my share of aggressive drivers take advantage of the vulnerability of a bike rider, and I'm not certain that I've seen any change for the better in terms of attitude on the part of car drivers. What surprises me the most is if you go to the ADVRider forum, there are at least two threads, including one in the "Perfect Line" with nearly 500 pages and one in "Jo Mama" basement with nearly 200 pages, wherein motorcyclists rant on the right of--or lack thereof--a bicyclist to ride on and share the road. Can't for the life of me understand how one could ride a motorcycle and not have empathy for a fellow rider on 2 wheels, especially one that is vastly underpowered and out-weighed. Arrogance, intolerance, ignorance.... http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/bicycles-on-the-road.733233/ The one in Jo Mama requires a sign-in. http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/dear-bicycle-riders.470119/

IP: This can't be true. As a vehicle, a bicycle must obey the same road rules as a ca, but traveling 10 MPH under the speed limit isn't an infraction, and certainly could not be deemed "traveling too fast" as a cause of the accident. Just doesn't make any sense to me...and I ride a lot. Link?
-
Joe: It ain't seat height that is the problem. It's the weight up high. Us old guys are frail... You can ride the 990 any time you want. Might make you hate the Big Ten, tho. We need to get together for a romp in the NKY twisties.

Oooo!!! Hole in one?

Naw. It wouldn't be much fun for you to ban me anyway. I'm an outsider on OR and barely in the same state, +/- a couple of miles. It's WAY MORE FUN to ban your special peeps you know well and who post here daily. I've got fewer than 1000 posts in over 7 years, so that works out to less 0.4 posts per day. A 48 hour ban wouldn't cramp my style much. Plus, I'll take my Grand Sport Vette convertible to the Tesla any day, even though that E-Beast would wax the Vette's ass in a heartbeat. I would be happy to donate my points to whatever contest you decide to play, though, 'cause I totally respect the absolute authority of the mods here, unlike those asshats like @ScubaCinci et al....douchebags, the whole lot of 'em!!!
