Yeah, they sent me a different xbox when mine RROD'd in July last year, and it just got the terminal 'disc reading' errors. Went and bought a crappy one on craigslist, swapped HDDs. Fuggit.

Damn, I haven't been to Texas in forever... BRING ME SOME BBQ NOW DAMMIT!!!!

I actually rode at least 100 miles a week all through the winter, except for that period where there was a lot of snow/ice actually on the roads. The trick is to dress in layers, pay attention to when your fingers get past numb and start hurting again, and try to stay within 30ish miles of a gas station in case you need emergency coffee. Also, if you're gonna be doing it all day in the cold, plan to take warm-up breaks at regular intervals. I enjoy the looks I get from cagers when I roll past with snow on the ground.

Yeah, but they're just the current squeaky wheels, with opportunistic media personalities and politicians stirring them up. Personally, I find their lack of a coherent message or well-reasoned arguments far more offensive than their deplorable grammar or racist undertones. But, at least they're entertaining. Kind of like peopleofwalmart.com, but all angry white folks with signs.

Meh. I'm generally just impressed when these hamsters manage to hold their signs up the right way. These people aren't exactly our best and brightest.

For any system which benefits anyone, some percentage of people will try and succeed in exploiting it. So of course we want to try and minimize the number of people using a service/ program who don't actually need it or 'deserve' it. At the same time, however, I can't advocate blocking or doing away with something that benefits thousands of Americans who have honestly hit hard times and are actively seeking to work just to spite some smaller percentage of people who might be milking the benefits.

Here's what seems to work best on the rides I've been on: --A staggered formation, spacing adjusted for speed/ curves. --An experienced, relatively quick rider who knows the road on point. --Behind him, an experienced, more levelheaded rider who can keep the leader in view without encouraging the noobs to ride outside their abilities. --Behind him, all the nubsauce. --Behind the nubsauce, an experienced, fairly aggressive rider on a big, noisy, attention-grabbing cruiser, with saddlebags full of supplies/ tools/ first aid and a pocket full of ball bearings. He keeps the cages off the noobs and makes sure noone gets left behind.

That sounds pretty cool, but OMGWTFBBQ WHO DOES SHIT AT 8AM ON THEIR DAY OFF?!?!?!!!

Crappy pop star (redundant phrase) from a few years back. Just a bit more gay than Liberace, but apparently only decided to come out after his career was over and a little-anticipated tell-all was about to hit the shelves. In other news, water is wet, Harleys are slow, and a person wearing an Ed Hardy shirt is likely to be a douchebag. EDIT: I got sidetracked for a few minutes typing this post and the question got answered.

More or less. Mine's all flat-blacked, but I got some of the idea on how to do it from your intro thread a few weeks back. Mine definitely looked a little funny with the long rear cowl and saddlebags, but I think it'll be alright once I'm finished. Handlebars should be arriving in a few days, then just need to swap for some less goofy-looking mirrors and black out those now-uncovered shiny rear shocks.
-
After my mom dropped my gs750 yesterday (wife and mom both learning, both dropping bikes, long day) and busted my rear cowl, I decided to chop it rather than replace a 33-year-old hunk of plastic. So I spent most of the night and part of this morning measuring, drilling, hacksawing, and wiring to basically end the bike right at the end of the seat. Looks cool, but I have to wait for the new handlebars I ordered to post before/ after pics.
-
I was initially looking for a 250, but they're all going for way more than I could justify spending right now for a bike she'd outgrow in a few months. And at any rate, having sat her on my buddy's 250, the ride height's damned near the same on the 600-- I'd have had to lower that anyway. Her crash wasn't a matter of the bike being too powerful; she just couldn't reach the ground firmly enough to catch herself when it stalled out, so it basically fell over under her at a stop. She had just spent roughly 3 hours happily putting around the apartment complex, and only ran into trouble when she stopped or started. In truth, if she had a bit more experience, she could probably manage this bike at its current height. Right now, though, she really needs to be able to get a firm grip on the ground (to keep the bike level) when she's taking off from a start. I tried telling her to just get taller, but that didn't work. Now about the air shock-- What's this about nitrogen? I know nothing about these things, but there was barely any pressure in it when I tried to let the air out. Where would I go to get nitrogen put into it?

The triple trees have a cap thingy on them where the bars mount, so I can't just move them down that way, although I have seen where they sell new ones with deeper caps for that purpose.
-
I think I understand what you mean, but the way the bike sits, I think they would need to be shorter. The seat's fairly far to the rear. Of course, I know damned near nothing about motorcycle suspensions. After all, I'm a cruiser guy- my normal ride floats and wallows like the mobile couch it is.
-
Yep. It's a pain. I guess I need to look for links. The current ones are 6.5'' between the centers of the holes-- I guess I need to get some that are an inch shorter than that.
-
Only a half-second of 'psshhh'. No movement. Basically, there's no air in them already. On to the next idea, I guess.
-
Gonna try it now, thanks!
-
Is this it? Sorry, I know nothing of air shocks (unless you count the air ride on semis and Caddies). I'm assuming I can just have her sit on it and let air out till she's comfortable?
-
Yeah, she's only 5'1'', and she can just barely touch with her tiptoes when it's upright, not enough to actually hold it upright or push (like backing up). I'm gonna have to go check that shock now. Magley, that's a good idea about the fork springs, also.
-
Well, I bought this bike for my wife (who's about 5'1'') to learn on, and she's doing well, but she is just barely tall enough to 'kickstand' herself when she stops. She can't touch the ground well enough to back up at all, and she managed to drop the thing when it tried to stall because she couldn't actually get a foot solidly on the ground without leaning the bike too far. I really need to lower this thing, and I'd love some advice and any good ideas on parts/ brands. I have a lowering strap and a set of Ninja 250 lowering links that came with a friend's bike, but the links are dinky and flimsy (made for a 250, duh!) and everything I've read says running straps on a street bike is a REALLY BAD IDEA. Halp?

Seeing as how I don't have beef with either of these guys, this is good clean entertainment! Anyway, I vote for a vote. Maybe a choice between some of the places mentioned, or a new poll every week to choose the next week's victim. Or something else.
-
See, I initially just said it to be obnoxious, but it actually does have its upsides-- we can move it around so more people get a chance to show up, and we get to check out places we haven't been to yet.
