There was a case where a woman accused a good samaritan of causing her injuries. A judge in Nanjing rules that 'Common Sense' was that he helped her out of guilt, and ordered him to pay her medical costs. Since then, good samaritans have to consider the risk of being blamed for the injuries if they try to help. It was not a law, it was a court precedent - a pretty stupid one at that. Can't even tell if it happened more than once (and for all we know, the guy MAY have caused her injuries)

Some engine problems present symptoms on a cold start. Puff of blue smoke can mean bad valve stem seals, for one.
-
All involved in causing, or failing to try to prevent, her death.

Yet again, England wins!! Proud to be from the most apathetic country out there!! Woohoo! 20 minutes of the guy actively asking for help?? REALLY??? The only time I ever saw someone incapacitated in the street like that it was a similar situation - people milling past. I stopped and checked on her - she had had a siezure and was coming to as I was talking to her. Her sister arrived and took over (apparently aware of how to handle the girl's condition). She thanked me for stopping and said she could handle it from there. Anyone ever see the video of the mock aduction of a young girl? Another social experiment. Big burly guy grabbed a young girl who was screaming; "You're not my dad! Let me go!" and they filmn people walking past doing nothing. Until two young black guys saw what was going on and surrounded the guy and "rescued" her. EDIT: Found it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H7dfkZKjWSo

Absolutely. The point of that video is that none of the bystanders helped and it was only when a cop going to an unrelated call happened to drive up on the scene that he got any help. People in glass houses...

If you ever watch car crash video on youtube (either dashcam or CCTV) you'll notice that overwhelmingly people DON'T stop to help. Ask yourself... - Have you ever seen an accident and NOT stopped to give a witness statement? (Even if fault is obvious, a witness keeps everyone honest) - Have you even come across an accident scene before the police/fire got there and NOT stopped to help? - Have you ever seen someone hurt in the street and NOT tried to help? Too many people answer YES to these questions (Followed by rationalization that I don't care to hear). If I see an accident I always stop to help or give a witness statement. Probably the worst I've caugh on dashcam is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kFYawrbQ0W0 Initially I saw that there were people stopped so I debated stopping too, but figured that nobody was helping the one car so I'd better stop. Irognically one fireman thanked me for stopping (the one who asked if I was hurt) and another yelled at me (arrived later, thought I had driven between the fire trucks out of impatience when in truth I arrived before they did). The black car with the horn blaring ran a red light onto a 5-lane 55mph highway and t-boned a passing car (the one in the ditch that the nurses were helping). The 3rd car (white lincoln stopped in the left lane) clipped the corner of the black car and suffered minor comestic damage. White lincoln and black car suffered no injuries. The car forced into the dtich hit a pole and the driver was rushed to hospital by EMS. Lucky the nurses were there. If someone needs your help, please offer it.

While I agree with your comment about the Chinese video, it's not without precedent in the US... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Arce_Torres http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20BeOcjt52I This man never recovered, never left hospital, and died about a year after the accident. The driver was caught and got 10 years in jail.

Again, I'm not buying their description of Chinese laws. I struggle to believe that a communist country would have a capitalist health system. I'm workign to confirm this. *EVEN IF* the driver has to pay medical bills (or reimburse the goverment for the cost of state-funded healthcare) the drivers would still be facing medical bills associated with the attempts to save the girl, so no victory there - they would have to pay for the ICU etc. Also they are both facing hit/run charges which, because it resulted in a death, they are looking at 15 years in jail. They might consider it a victory if they got away without being caught, but... Could someone who watched the video tell me if the license plates are visible in the footage? I wonder how they were caught. May be local trucks that people recognized then confirmed through forensics. While I still think the whole situation is fudged up from the start (who lets a 2yo wander around a market where there are trucks driving?), I don't agree that the drivers "won".

I don't believe the description of Chinese laws. There are a couple of chinese guys on my team at work so I can ask them. I do know there are severe penalties for hit and run. Anyway, if anything good can come from this, but drivers were arrested.

Ebay vehicle auctions are non-binding. Not his until he pays for it - although good luck getting that deposit back. Not sure which I'd like better - to see a cold start or to have it do a 100 mile run. Both have their advantages. If the OP needs to discuss the insurance with is agent. Why would he insure a bike that doesn't belong to him? I'd tell the seller that my insurance won't insure the bike until I've take delivery. Make sure that you take delivery at a date/time that you can call and start the insurance immediately - or tow it home.

Perfect example in Dublin last week. 161 westbound just before Corbins Mills. Two lanes in each direction with a shared center turn lane. The two lanes of westbound traffic stopped for heavy traffic and both waved a car out of a sidestreet on the north side of the street (this car wanted to make a left turn onto 161 to go eastbound. The eastbound lanes were empty, westbound lanes were stopped and both waving him out.... He goes for it, and crashes into a car that was using the center turn lane to pass the stopped traffic trying to reach the left turn lane. The cop put the blame on both drivers. The car in the center turn lane was comitting a violation, but so was the car pulling out of a sidestreet (failure to yield).
-
That's why I only wave someone past if I'm the only lane that has to yield. If another lane has to yield, even if (apparently) empty, then sorry - I'm not gonna take the risk that I'm gonna wave you into the path of another car.

Don't forget that people faced with hi-beams will often respond with hi-beams. Usually a quick reminder flash or two, followed by a "If I go down I'm taking you with me" retina-burning war. Don't you hate it when you flash at someone's hi-beams, only to have the respond by ACTUALLY turning on their hi-beams for a second. "Then adjust your lo-beams, y'schmuck!"

My wife had PRK. The first eye the didn't get quite right so she had to go back in for a redo. It went from a +3.5 to a +0.5 prescription. They figured out what went wrong with the measurement for the first eye (her eye was moving during the measurement a week before the procedure). Second eye was done just fine 3mo later. Had to wait a year for the first eye to fully heal before the redo. Worst bit was she turned out to be allergic to the post-op eyedrops. Whoops! Now, something like 4 years post-op, she's never looked back (pun intended). Loves it. Bit of dry eye here an there, but she had that before too so it was no change for her.

How do you "win"? If you get a certain number of likes? Is there a referrer id or specific link to click on so they know the like came from your referral?

Not in Columbus, however... I've recycled aluminum at Sims on London Road in Delaware. Been there twice, no problems. Headed up there again this weekend.

I'm not gonna run hi-beams into an oncoming car on a 2-lane road at night. I just ordered a set of crash cars for my bike and I'm going to look into adding projector lights to the crash bars to provide additional lighting to the sides.

My headlight is long enough but not wide enough. Deer don't tend to stand in the middle of the road waiting for you... Can't have my hi-beams on all the time and my lo-beams don't cover the trees either side of the ditch well enough.
-
Would be nice if the state set up a website where people could report minor collisions and near-collisions. Now that the mornings are much darker I'm coming in to work a little later so I'm setting off while it's light. I can mitigate the higher deer activity during the dawn *if I can see them*, but if I set off and it's still pitch black then I won't see the deer until it's too late.

When I sold my bike it was at my house. I store the bike indoors. Buyer did not ask for a test ride, although it would have been cash-in-hand only if he did. Plus the bike has a GPS tracker on it so if stolen the chances of recovery were higher.
-
I always carry my wallet in my front left pocket. Stays there when I ride. If I know I'm going to a store then I'll put my wallet in my jacket pocket for easy easy access at the store. (ATGATT = overpants = difficult to get at the wallet without looking like I'm taking my pants off)

Was my previous bike that was too lean. The strom is fine.
-
I just wish their sales was as nice as their service and parts. Their best offer on my new vstrom was 20% higher than where I got it from. I'm sure they sold it for that much to the next guy in line, so I guess that's just how the market works.
