my buddies first bike was an '82 Maxim. I think it was the 650 as well. Bike was awesome for a learner bike, especially cause the thing was running and had no issues for $400. I think all we ever replaced on it was the throttle cable and battery. His lil bro bought it off him and rode it another 10,000 miles for a grand total of 60k until he finally raped it enough to blow a head gasket I believe is what he said

In the medium groups it was partly that and partly showing up with bad tires. It also was a bit disorganized in my mind but its hard to predict some of those things until it happens. So learning from those experiences we now know things that can be done to make it go smoother

Also, to be clear it is not a speed snob thing, it's a preference on competency of riding within limits and boundaries. Accidents happen and some things like gravel & etc can't always be helped so I'm not a complete asshole!
