Oh the horror! What whould Senator Feinstein say?

Well, when I posted about the '09 bill that was getting alot of attention on Nov 28th of this year I got alot of heat on here about "fear mongering"...... It was info sent to me from a few friends working intell in Special Op's Command. Fools by any standard for sure. A month later now... Stopped working on my chopper and snagged 3 more rifles and 28 mags like a fool clinging to an outdated document penned by long dead right wing extreamists. It was a blessing that I needed to sell all of my stuff at gun shows to pay for grandma's new hip, kidney and liver and I only have my issue Glock. I guess it's better that threats like me don't own evil inducing objects like the black rifle. Group hug at my place, we can smoke recreational marijuana, discuss the benifits of green energy, decide that notional debt is no big deal, tweet on our obama phones and sing kumbaya around the fire of foreclosed home sighns. Good times.

Short answer: YEP Afer the election and a head count of me and my girls I went on an upgrade spree. The pink .22 is for the 6 year old. As soon as she can lift it, I'll continue passing on skill sets. She's the youngest of my 3. Oldest 2 have allready taken the oath and are 5th generation active duty.

I like the new guy. That and I spent a short time in his Infantry Regement. As a LE guy now, I have had been faced with letting guys who I beleive are nuttier than squarel turds go because the did'nt do anything "yet". The mental heath issuse stuff needs to be added to the insta-check data base. Not that it would have helped in this case due to the theft of the weapons used in this case of mass murder. On the plus side here in Ohio we have cops in the schools for the most part. Our SRO's (Student Resorce Officers) are there all the time in the schools we have jurisdiction in. I myself spent a year in that job. in a real shit hole in youngstown too. In one incident a "deal" went bad between in a "freelance pharmaceutical sale" about 300 yards from the school. Well, gunfire followed. After the first few seconds of WTF? passed, I did what what seemed right at the time: Run Towords Gunfire. My old ass must have had a good day because i ran down the shooter (who ditched his gun when he saw me, I recoved it later) and took him into costody. He's doing 13 years in the Federal pen now. These were high school kids I was assighned too, I can't imagine the stress factor if the were as young as the CT victims. My heart goes out to the first responders that day. I guess my point is, evil is out there. Gun laws don't matter to criminals who have a heart for evil. All we can do is have have a better mindset, the intestinal fortitude to face down evil when the wolf is at the door and never quit. A gun control act to disarm all will only add to this problem. The bad guys will not comply. We are responsible to defend life and liberty. All it takes for evil to prevail is for good men to stand by and do nothing.

+1 Enjoy it. Zero it and test it out. Remember good fundimentals of marksmanship and you should be more than pleased with that glass.

7mm is damn flat and had an awesone BC. Alot would depend on how you shoot. Do you use hold off for wind and elevation? Do wou want to dial in dope before you shoot? Either wat the optics mentioned are great. Even the "low end" stuff may work great for you. Look at where its manufactured. Stay way fron the China stuff. US, Germany, UK, alll geat stuff. Great buys are often the "made in Japan" glass. They are often using glass made by Nikon, Minolta, and other high end makers of glass. Try to buy your scope hands on. feel how its made. Good clear glass, that nice sheen of the floride coating on the objective to gain more light, solid "snap" when you click on windage and elevevation. And when you get it, test it. Zero it t you range and spin the rings and return to zero. If it come backs to point of aim being point of impact you have a keeper for that rifle. Good hunting.

I have 7.......... Pardon me while I go PMCS my bug out gear.

The reason I posted it is it has been getting some attention on several right wing sites, encudeing ones that Special Ops Intel monitor (thanks to some of my close contacts still in the comunity) And the rumor has been raised that good old Sara Brady has got her bandwagon all loaded up for another push after POTUS mentioned it in the debate. And like Recon, I know how adept POTUS is in the use of the executive order. I forget the exact count but he's over 150 of them in 4 years.

"Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, or FNC, Hi-Point20Carbine, HK-91, HK-93..." They got that covered. It's such a blanket list and the language the the AG can set the standard is quite interesting. On the bright side the Supreme Court has upheld gun rights as of late it my be a plus againts this AWB proposal. But how many of those Justices are going to be replaced by POTUS the next 4 years? Good thing I'm just a dutifull public servant totally forget what "De Oppresso Liber" means.

Well I'm gonna chime in here. The details on the ticket as far as lane of traffic and shuch on your copy arnt nessisarily complete. The officer has to go back to his PD or post, get your LEADs print out, complete the citation, attach your driving record and sent to the court via whatever method they use. Bottom line, you got tagged 40 in the 25. Now depending on what time you wanna give up you got options. One, you can go in to the court, show your good insurance and pay it and take the points. Done. no more time lost. 2, go in to court, appear infont of the judge, plead no contest, likely pay less, and still take the points. or 3, go in plead not guilty, get a new court date, the officer will be called to court (and like get a good chunk overtime) and you meet with the procecuter. He will offer a "deal", less fine, cite for no points and a fine, or if you, were taking it to trial... Last part not likely for a traffic cite but can happen. If your are a d*ck to him or the officer the odds of this goes up. It all depends what kind of your time you wanna commit to this. Hell, Im a patrol cop, me going to court on traffic tickets in easy overtime. I don't care if you walk with a minor fine with no points or just walk. But if I saw a traffic violation and don't stop you for it, I'm being wrong or lazy. 2 things I don't wanna be. He had probable cause to stop and cite you. Where it goes from here is up to you and the amount of time you want to dedicate.

Per FBI and most L/E policies shot beyond 300y are major no-no's. BUT.... I did'nt lean to shoot long gun as a copper. And I have argued with the Fed guys on this "restiction" and it went round and round a bit. They gripe that you can't have "facial recognition" beyond 300y and I shot back " Did you numb nuts have 'facial recognition' on Vicky Weaver hollding an infant?' ".... Yeah that went over well.... ANYWAY I started my long gun time in Benning class 1-93 as an Infantry sniper, before my USMC and FBI schoolin' after that. I've allways been that guy in LE circles preaching the long shot, even if it it's just for training or "just in case". I've been off the joint task force team for a couple years now and been a deticated "road deputy" but keep my quals up and have the rifle. It come down to CYA for the most part. If a factory "Law Enforcent" load fails and something bad happins the powers that be can blame Federal or Winchester or Hornady or who ever if some poor sap got dead becase of a misfire or some such ammo failure. If the parent agency allowed my dumb ass to "load his own" and use it in service they would have to accecpt that liability if my handloads had some type of failure. No LE administator is likely to do that. As far as cans go, I havent used one but when it comes time to re-barrel ( I'm at just over 1800 rounds) or a new rifle I have thought about looking into a suppressor but I'm going to do my research before I commit to that idea. Again... CYA. Triggers: My rifle is MINE so way back in the day as an Infantry Bravo4 sniper Remington sent the reps out and showed me how to break "the seal of the god's" and adjust the stock and M21SWS creep adust trigger. Got the good old "Remington Armorer" certificate out of that. So on my rifle I did this. Later, learning of the again, LIABILITY of doing this I swaped out to a Remington Custom Shop 40XB trigger (Thanks to Dan Ross owner D.D. Ross) who also provided me my M40A1 welded 20 MOA scope mount and bottom metal. No wax seals and just a better trigger. The key to ammo, cans, trigger work is often "documentaion". My rifle, it's service record, my data book and ME are likely to ALL be on the stand in court room if I ever have to use the long rifle to "stop" a bad guy. Kind of a hijack of the thread there but I hope I cleared it up. Be safe guys, and good hunting.

Hey. I contunue to run the 168gn. Partially becase I have alot of dope with it and mostly becase its Department -FBI task force ammo for the job. I have alot of round out with the 175 but not so much out of this rifle compared to the old M24. 168 is an awesome load. The 175 does do some things better depending on your rifle. I've been doing this long enough to be forced to us M118SB, prior to the M118LR (175SMK's). You wanna talk about a sub par ammo? Look at the old 118SB( Special Ball) It was only "special" in a short school bus kind of way. Getting away from Ball ammo to SMK's was a big plus, 168 or the 175's. If you do have a .308 stick, Test ammo! GI or "Gold Metal" ammo might be the ticket. Weight, who makes it, if you load your own ( I can't; liability issue) or try other comercial loads, find what it likes so shoot. Same way we all change tires on our bikes. What works for one bike/rider may not work for the next. Same goes for shooter and his rifle.

When they took away my full auto and gave me a bolt gun when I was 19 it was a M24SWS (Remington 700 action). I have had my personal one in .308 short action since Febuary of 2000. Been upgraded as it wore and as money permited. Upgraded to an HS longrange stock, D.D.Ross M40a1 welded and trued 20 MOA scope mount and bottom metal, 40XB trigger, bla bla bla.... the Reminton can grow with you. The Winchester 70's are also damn good, I just shy away from the 3 bolt bedding sytem in favor to the 2 hex bolt bed on the Remington. Jut if you HAVE to take it out of the stock torque specs are easy to match in a tactical enviornment over the 3 bolt slot on the Winchesters if you get dirt and or vegitation in your trigger. Savage........ no personal experiance so I want to try not to bash them and the guys that run them. So yes, its more a personal preferance and the fact that the 700 has more guys making upgrades to it. And that barrel nut thing on the Savage just looks silly and doe not inspire confidence like the Winchester or Remington does as a well built percission rife platform. But I'm a Sniper, not a gunsmith or long range comp shooter so my opinion may be the one of the dirty Grunt in the room. Give my ass a rig simple enough for me to operate, good dope and location of the target.

I dont have one but if I was shopping I'd be looking at the AI's or something out of Remington Custom shop. But after Tuesday its a couple more AR's, more mags, lot's of ammo and enough chow to hold out till the zombies are gone. I'm gonna count on my .308... If hit can't hit and take out my target on a bad day, I got bigger problems than what's in the gun safe. Seriously, going to a new rifle and new round takes alot of work and range time to really learn it. There's a ton of .308 dope out there, it's a good choice. I've been married to that cartrage longer than to the wife. And I can predict how it acts, unlike the wife.

OH I'M IN!! Back to the original question: .308 or 30-06 .308 hands down.... It's a simple question of tech. A .30 cal projectile fired from a rifle ( for agument a Remington 700 and lets say its a SMK 168 and rate of twist and barrel quality is the same) is going to have the SAME balistics due to the fact the 30-06 and .308 catrage case can handle the same pressures, the .308 just does it in shorter package. The benefit of the shoter cartage give you the ability to have a shorter, stiffer, more rigid action to hang that barrel on. This gives you more consistancecy and less barrel whip. So win to .308. As far as optic packages, bigger calibers and shots beyound 800 meters or so, differnt conversation. .300 WM, .338 Lapua, .408 Chey Tac, .416 Barret, .50 BMG and so on...... These rifle are the over the top rigs for special application, shots beyond a mile, anti-material or what ever. I've humped the .50's on missions and in hind site the .308 would have been fine. And my ass would have been less kicked. SO AGAIN, back to the question: .308..... and Go REMINGTON. 175 gain is great but harsher recoil, more pressure on the barrel and the 168's perform great out to 800 meters and somtimes father. Get your rig and shoot it. See what ammo it likes. All the math and algebra data is going to come with time, shooting, weather and learing your stick. Some like to be babyed and cleaned all the time, others are more slutty and love to be shot on foul bore. It's real easy to build multi thousand dolor rifles and take them out and blow hundreads in ammo and learn nothing. KISS principal (Keep It Simple Stupid), get your rifle, set it up, test ammo and learn it. Keep good dope in your data book and it will come together. Good Luck and good hunting. ...... And YES, I have a dirty desire for a .338 Lapua

And Weedens first INT of the day..... Thus it begins.

Did get the 120 rear gone and the rear axal was rusted in the wheel. I swapped it for one from a CB750C and the sprocket lined up and clears a 160 cruiser tire. The stamped backbone is gone and hardtail tacked up straight. That about it till my next days off.

Thanks alot , Brown....... Now I really don't wanna go to work tomorrow....
-
First plan is to hear it run. After that start chopping it up and see what it wants to let me do. I'm wanting to try out my tubing bender. Maybe a drop seat hard tail bobber. Some mild rake. not as much as the XS400 build. Something that chalanges me a bit and will be fun to scoot around on for a few months then sell and buy another project or two.

Since my line on a CX500 washed out I pulled the trigger on this little bike. It's a mess. Got it cranking but not fired up yet. Next couple of weekends are gonna tell me more of what I've got into. Chipmunks in the airbox..... of course Wasps in the headlight bucket....Hell Yeah Oh let the games begin. Got it to turn over but no juice to the coil. A short search confermed the ignition key switch is fried. I know I have one around here somewhere but wont have the time to play with it more till the weekend. As far as direction with it I'm not set in stone. But been seeing some cool ideas and I want a winter project that challanges me to get better. And give me stuff to bitch about...

Dalton.... If 11Bravo is what you want hang tough. "Not availible" is a bit shocking to me but it's a differnt Army. I Have 7 years as a 11 Bang Bang, and 7 more in ASOC before I was done out by a spinal injury. Local GM plant wasnt hiring Snipers so I went into law enforcement. I have 2 daughters in The Army. my 20 Y/O is Intell- Airrborne in SF with a combat patch from her JSOC rotaion with the FET's attached to SF A-Teams and my 18 Y/O is threw MEPS and waiting to ship to BCT then off to UAV Opperator Training. "You WANT to be Infantry?" HELL YEAH. Best job discripion in the Army: "Locate, Close with AND Distroy the enemy by means of fire and menuver and close contact." Army FM 7-8 Every other MOS is just a Jock Strap (just around for support) Best of luck, be safe and good hunting.
