I have been riding the Iron now for a few days and so far, so great! Love the nice solid snick with the gear changes. The belt drive is a nice addition as well. The motor is pretty smooth and pulls very well right off idle. I really like the low end grunt. The rubber engine mounts do their job well. Since I was looking at my shoulders with the mirrors in the stock above-the-bar locations I did the Nightster trick and mounted them under the bars. Now I see great! This I read over at HDForums. Like the addition of fuel injection. Bike handles really well and I feel very comfortable after fine tuning the cockpit. While the bike has limited suspension travel it actually rides better than I was expecting. Never has it felt jittery or jumpy. That being said, I am going to get Progressive rear shocks and fork springs in the future. I like the factory chrome pipes but wanted a little more sound out of them. I did some research and found that the Screaming Eagle slip-ons are much like the factory pipes with the baffles removed and not much louder. I looked at my stock pipes and about 9" up the muffler there was a plate that completely blocked the outlet and forces the exhaust through the baffle. Again, found a nice "how-to" with a lot of positive feedback on the previously mentioned website about removing the baffle. I have to say that I am very pleased with the results. A very nice tone with added sound but no where near loud, still looks factory and took all of 10 miuntes. Seat of the pants feels slightly better as well though still in the break-in period. Anyway, just a few thoughts with a few miles on the new bike....not like anyone asked:wink:

I just sold a '77 Suzi GS750 that sure was alot of fun but really did not handle all that well and was uncomfortable for me. I loved the motor, though. I am not a high speed type of rider so much any more. The Iron is a nice mix of cruiser and sport for my riding style. Now, not to contradict myself but the 883 it better suited for "modifications and tuning" compared to the 1200 or at least that is the information I have run across. I could be wrong....it's happened before:).

Honestly, H-D's have never really appealed to me all that much. I looked at other bikes ranging from sport to cruiser. The Buell was too tall for comfort. I started looking around the store (Powder Keg H-D) and looked at a left-over 2007 Street Rod......too long. Looked at the new Sportster Fourty-Eight....did not care for the seating position, forward controls or the tiny "peanut" style 2 gallon tank. Saw the Iron.....it visually appealed to my senses. Rode a 1200 and a 883. Could not Justify the price difference so the 883 won. Just a comfy bike for me. Sure not the fasteset bike around but the low end feels really nice...where I will spend most of the time.

On her bike when she decides she wants to start riding. She refuses to be a "passenger":cool:.

.....on a brand spankin' new '10 H-D 883N Iron 883 yesterday evening. Should have it in the garage by 4/28 due to the crappy weather. I actually went in to look at a leftover '07 Buell Lightning but saw the Iron and loved it. Really comfortable and almost no chrome. I have no actual pictures of the bike as of yet but here is a "stock photo".

Popped in new clutch springs, put in half spacers to raise the needle jets and did an oil and filter change.

That stock light on there was like having the Hubble telescope bolted on...I hated it but had to find just the right tail light to replace it. I am pleased with the way it came out.

Re-worked the seat foam a little to match up with the tail section better and installed a tidier 4" Lucas tail light today. Here are the results...

It seems @ 35 degrees is my cut-off point right now. My commute is only about 7 miles though. 55 and up is what I would call comfortable.

Today, I installed a 14 tooth front sprocket (down from 15), and a brandy new RK o-ring chain. Nice difference in pick-up but gotta watch the down-shifting:). Also re-did the tail with a nice 4" Lucas light in place of the Hubble sized stocker.

Lovin' Not-Locke and the alterna-LOST. Switching back and forth between the 2....it's like 2 stories in one!

Re-worked the seat to incorporate the tail section over the weekend...here are some updated pics.

I was thinking about a Vera-Light but not convinced a LED light would look right on a vintage cycle. I ordered up a 4" Lucas Style tail light. It has the same general shape as the factory light but about 1/3 the size. Well see how that looks.
