It comes across a little as the anti-Harley Harley. People thought the V-Rod was a bastard child of sorts in the Harley line. This one is right up there with it.....and i like that. The AMA XR1200 series has expanded to 11 races this season and seems to be gaining in popularity like the old 883 series in the 90's.
Thanks. It does get some questions when I am filling up. Most folks don't even know what it is and "that's a Harley?" pops up a bit. After yesterday I am getting to know the bike better and it really is a whole bunch of fun to ride. Down to about 1/4" on the rear chicken strips:o.
I do not but there are a few XR clips on yt with ST's full exhaust that sounds pretty darn close. It is nice and deep and love the unique sound it puts out.
Been gathering parts the last couple weeks and installed them all today as well as modding my pulley cover. Pieces I installed are carbon front fender and side panels, Storz Racing shifter & a pair of Oberon "Racing" style foot pegs. Sorry for the crappy pictures but it was raining out and the garage is small.
So, it's an 883 that has been punched out to a 1200? If so, that'll be a fun scoot to ride. For everything XL related try this site: http://xlforum.net/vbportal/forums/index.php
I am looking for a reputable shop/person in the Cincinnati area that can color match Harley Mirage Orange to paint a new aftermarket fiberglass seat section for an XR1200. I would like it to look like this:
I intended to just finally move the bike from the shop to the garage, which is 8 miles, but ended up riding for about an hour or so.....ahhhh, what good therapy.
Well, it seems my 8 mile ride from the shop to home turned into 40 miles. Man, it was nice out. I do see a Corbin saddle in my immediate future....I lasted about 30 minutes on that plank of a stock seat before my butt started protesting.
I'll be riding the bike from the shop to home since it was delivered to me at work mid-December. It's only 8 miles and the 3 roads I will be on have cleared of salt pretty well due to traffic.
Yeah, how many times have we been on the Loveland Trail walking along and someone says "awwww, is your dog sick? It's so skinny!" Ummm no, it's a greyhound, dumbass. Hell, she eats 6 cups of food a day!
All I need is a spring and fluid install/change so it is pretty basic stuff. I thought I saw that there was a indy shop in the Cincy area that did stuff like this. I remember looking at the pricing (very reasonable) on their website. Dammit, I should have marked that site.
The signals are Bikemaster brand. Just some inexpensive ($17/pair) units that I happen to really like the style of. They use 23w bulbs so they are pretty bright. I needed to find signals with an 8mm stem to fit nicely into both the tail-tidy and Rizoma mounts. They are only 2 wire units so I lost the front running lights but my headlight upgrade makes up for it.
Unfortunately, the tail-tidy is only available in Europe as are a lot of the aftermarket parts for the XR since it is much more popular over there. If you do find it here in the States the price is higher than what you would pay just ordering it from overseas with our poor exchange rate plus mark-up. I wish I only paid $90 for it. It is a very well thought out design and dead solid when mounted and included all parts needed.
