Not really. Basically said on any track with a decent straight you're phucked. Everything was in line with every comparison I've read, was cool to see the difference on video. I think it was RRW that did a track comparison of the stock bikes when the CBR first came out. It is a little disappointing that Honda didn't make the performance of the Ninja a hard target. I'm sure it's "clean sheet entry level value blah blah blah..." Maybe the Ninja 300 will incite a minor model change that ups the ponies.
An explanation of the differences would not impress as much as just trying them on next time you're at a store like IP. Between sole thickness, ankle restriction, knee-high shin protection, etc they are just heavy, clunky and akward.
I'm drunk and angry and got called out for calling the Wikigun guys dumb. If you want to make guns from scratch as a hobby, great. I looked at 80% lowers and they cost more than finished lowers. I doubt I could get a blank forging for what I paid for my last several lowers. "Downloadable guns" are only worth as much as the technolgy you have to "print" them. I got a kick out of the video quote "Anyone who has a computer..."
If there isn't one on the internet already, next time I have a job I'll make you a model of an AR lower and you can download the fuck out of it. You can get software to turn a vinyl cutter into a 3D printer, maybe you'd like to try a vinyl lower. Or you can CNC it out of billet and make something that costs more and sucks more than a readily available $70 forged aluminum lower. Doesn't take much to impress you guys. BTW, solenoid fired weapons are illegal.
Along the same lines, the first time I was ever faced with cleaning a gun I got a Hoppes kit from Walmart (did I ever mention I phucking love Walmart) and that is all I have ever used since. Satisfied with the results, but sometimes I wonder if it would be easier to just blast stuff away with carb cleaner. One reason I like the Hoppes solvent is it seems to have some corrosion-preventative properties itself, so once I clean something with it I don't feel the need to oil it down right away. The Hoppes solvent did seem to affect the paint on some US-made parts of my AK (purple came off on the patches).
I dislike the combination of power delivery and short gear ratios. In lower gears it's jumpy and through a gear too quick, in higher gears the power really falls off up top. I was never really considering one in the first place though. I went to buy an STI on an impulse about this time last year, thinking it would be a great winter DD and sometimes track toy. Luckily I had time to do some research and get my deposit back before it came in.
Tough call. The STI should be reliable on the street, but then why pay for all the trick stuff? I'd rather have the new car, but didn't like the WRX. Is it stock? If so I might be able to hang.
STIs are total poser cars that can't handle their own design power for more than short spurts. Subaru sells you a performance package for an $8500 premium and then calls "driving under boost for extended periods of time" "abuse."
