  1. What time is everyone rolling out, and any idea on ride total time? I have a bunch of shit to do tomorrow.
  2. Not sure yet. My wife might have other plans for me.
  3. It idles good, no leaks at the manifolds either. I'm going to check the hats that cover the diaphragms tomorrow. It ran real strong today, and I think my mileage has improved by quite a bit. I never knew how bad it was til I saw how good it has become. The throttle response is really quick and snappy. And my exhaust has a nice crisp bark to it.
  4. made it to the gas station and back. running good so far. fingers crossed.
  5. its back together.. and it started. no leaks... not really idling well, but i think the plugs are fouled a tad.
  6. took it apart and put it back together again. i think i can do it in like 15 mins now. float valve swapped and no more leaks.... yet. it was late so i buttoned it up and left it for tomorrow.
  7. i got her back together today. ran fine for like 5 secs. now troubleshooting what i think is a stuck float... FML
  8. i may be down if my parts show up and my carbs are all outta whack. i'm from around that area, and i can't say i remember that road being all that.
  9. i'm waiting on the diaphragms that should be here hopefully this week.. i just spent another 1/2 hour hooking up throttle cables, choke, and some fuel lines. i also seated the carbs and cinched em' down. so basically i have another 15 mins worth of work waiting for me so i can get in a ride hopefully this weekend.
  10. literally i have like 3 hours tops in it so far, and probably another hour to go, but i could now do it much quicker having already done it.
  11. i asked around and it seemed everyone had the same opinion that yamaha made the best cleaner. so i went to a yamaha dealer and bought a quart. you mix it 2:1 in a bucket using hot water. as far as tuning goes... yeah you should be good as long as you set it back the way it was. but like in my case, i think someone tuned the carbs with ripped diaphragms installed so mine might be way off. it sounds stupid but reading the manual is pretty key to getting a good base tune. i just finished putting mine back together, now i'm just waiting on parts to finish it up.
  12. i just tore my carbs apart on my 88 hawk and i can say its not that daunting if you keep everything in front of you and separated. it all made sense to me once i tore into it. matter of fact they are soaking as we speak. as far as tuning a clean carb i'm clueless, but then again i haven't ever tried.
  13. Scored a set of used diaphragms on eBay for 70 bucks shipped. Better than 99.95 a piece without shipping for the new ones. And I'll get them next week instead of 3 weeks or so.
  14. i personally prefer the "old" site to the new one. i think the old site comes off more polished. the new sites logo's look odd to me compared to the old site. is the new site gonna be vbulletin as well?
  15. decide to address the carb mani gaskets which were leaking, and finally use the rebuild kit i bought forever and a day ago. tore it all apart and found that both diaphragms had holes in em'. one had a tiny pinhole... the other.... pinched and a nice slit in it. fuck me.
  16. I like it, it's underpowered but handles great. It's fun around town, not so much on the highway.
  17. watch out that intrepid is about to pass you on the outside.
  18. i'm from east palestine myself. welcome to the site!
  19. i have the exact same car. i haven't driven mine for about 5 years, so the mileage is lower. but my actually is kinda beat to shit.
  20. +1 on the CLR. the hawk guys all swear by it, and if there is one thing they know about its rusty tanks.
  21. not when i bought it. it was 495 and then the mags and scope mount/scope.... i see them on gunbroker for 4 bills with no accessories. i'd maybe think of letting it go cheaper. i'm just going off of what i have in it. i didn't really look to much at what they have sold for recently.
