  1. Oh and it's not all about being faster. Being faster is a result of being safer. Being safer is a result of being better. Being better is a result of continually practicing all aspects of riding and applying that experience.

How the fuck did this thread turn into another god damn track & street conversation anyway.

The Voyager isn't going anywhere, but the Ducati might not make the cut. I don't know how this is going to play out just yet.

Multistrada V4 is how it's going to play out in the end. You know this. I know this.

  3. Tim you need to come try racing minis with us :)

Cheaper and less risk than racing big bikes but still the same concept. May change your perspective a bit. Racing itself is fun, but I never realized how much I still had to work on before I starting doing track related things. This all is an effort to make myself a better rider, getting to whoop on my buddies and trash talk is just an added bonus. Seat time is seat time as long as the foundations are there.

That said, I'm really considering picking up a clapped out 600 project bike and doing a couple wera races here and there within the next 2 or 3 years.

Still, there will be no info out there on how to properly set it up for the first year at least. Maybe longer if no one fast actually buys and develops them. Aftermarket parks will be few and far between and spares even more sparse...

The things most racers need will not be available to your "average" racer.

I bet I'll see one though, but almost guarantee it'll be some rich dude that isnt very fast anyway, just likes having the newest stuff to say he has the newest stuff. SV's and FZ's will still make up most of the grids.

Some well funded team will buy one and make one-off parts for it just for the horsepower advantage. Even with a basic setup (exhaust, tune, thin head gasket) you'll probably see 10 more horsepower than FZ07/SV650 full builds.

  5. Aprilia 660... no reason to not just get any of the modern 600's. They make more power and are way less of an investment.

Unless of course you're racing in the lightweight twins class and want an extra 10 or so horsepower over your competition.

yeah, that's going to cause so many people to lowside pushing the magic 65 degrees of lean MM can do when he uses his knee and elbow to hold shit off the ground.

RC213V inspired engine? still an inline-four sharing the same bore and stroke as the RC213V.

I think they borrowed some valve/cam/timing tech from the rc213v on top of the bore/stroke.

"In the cylinder head, new DLC-coated camshafts actuate new finger-follower rocker arms, replacing the shim-under-bucket design to reduce drivetrain friction by 35 percent and cut inertial weight by 75 percent. Those new coated cams are driven by a semi-cam gear-train system. This patent-pending design uses a small timing gear on the crankshaft that drives a cam-idle gear that then in turn moves the cam chain. The goal is a shorter cam chain for less weight and inertia.

Reciprocating mass inside the engine has also been reduced with new titanium connecting rods that weigh half of the previous chromoly steel units. New forged pistons made from A2618 aluminum are 5 percent lighter with improved durability and strength. Ober (Teflon and molybdenum) coating on the skirts and nickel-phosphorous plating in the pin clip groove increase high-rpm wear resistance."

Never heard it called that, or done that way. It was always a bounce test that I knew about. Lift it and give the steering a twist and see how much it bounced off the steering stop. And it was just a quick way to see if you needed to get out the torque wrench and check it properly.

Trying to wrap my head around why that test would cost 300 bucks.

That's not a bad deal, it's $417.90 if you've got a metric bike after you convert inches to centimeters.

  9. I can hate on HD all day long about their bikes but I will say their customer service is right up there with the best of the best in my experience. I'm kind of interested in all those different bikes they put in their future lineup as well... If they will even get made or be priced competitively. A HD ADV bike would be fun to see 🤷‍♂️

Indian has been hitting it out of the park lately though. The XR1200 was a great move by them and now it looks like they are stepping it up with electronics. Would be awesome if they came out with a supersport or something in the future. I wouldn't put it past them.

I could have paid cash for any motorcycle I wanted, and I did.   I specifically wanted something light and maneuverable with no electronic aides.   That is what seemed like the most 2 wheel fun for me.

Is my Ninja 400 (non-ABS) an EGO bike 🙄  I mean I could have bought the H2 to be "safer,"  I just didn't want one.

A ninja 400 doesn't really require any electronic rider aids (not really counting ABS here... I think looking at any sort of testing you'll find ABS outperforms non-ABS systems in stopping distance unless some sort of god is piloting the bike. Again, this is your choice/preference but not necessarily based on safety). You're not going to be spinning up the rear on corner exits or struggling to keep the front end down trying to manage drive on a 400 :p

And yes, a ninja 400 is totally an ego bike. You bought that sucker thinking "I'm gonna go blow up those slow 1000 rider's day on this 40 horsepower mean green machine". I have the same aspirations on the grom down at deal's gap 😂

  11. In my mind actively avoiding rider aids because it makes someone feel like less of a rider is like not wearing a helmet because it restricts your freedom. Is everyone able to make that choice for themselves? Sure. It's just maybe not a smart or informed decision. Unless there's a specific reason for not taking an advantage that can make something safer, it's down to ego and ego isn't the best thing to base important decisions on, generally

    :dunno:

I wouldnt get rid of it without trying it out first. I dont mind it as much as most and it has probably saved me once or twice. The lever has 0 feel and you will get some fade, but I love the linked brakes. Dragging that rear brake really settles the bike I think.

The only other expert rider I can think of that uses it is Koflowitch, so everyone must be ditching it for a reason 🤷‍♂️. I am going to try it out and see how things go.

No feel sounds not so great but I can probably get used to relying just on feeling the deceleration over decel + brake pressure. Anyway yeah I'll leave it on for at least a few days at the track and see how I like it. Not a super difficult fix if I want it gone anyway.
