  2. Vance Outdoors: XDS 3.3 bi-tone 9mm $629 Only thing extra this gun comes with vs new is the extended mag and Remora holster... His armslist ad lists as a bi-tone, and is at $525 OBO. I was just looking at this the other day, but can't swing the cost right now.

The chip you are referring to is the EMV IC chip (Europay, MasterCard, Visa, Integrated Circuit) Oddly enough, the EMV IC concept was actually designed for exactly what this COIN card is doing, multiple accounts, single card. It basically evolved into a supposed "better" system for security and anti fraud. The physical chip in the new cards is an electric contact point. No different than a SIM-card. It still requires the insertion of the card into the reading device. The new "chips" themselves are passive, requiring no powering device such as a battery. They do not transmit radio frequency, and require direct electrical contact with the reading device. The COIN device is attempting to add more security methods, such as bluetooth presence awareness, that require the battery and thus, the limited life. The reason why the payment industry is stating that this method is more secure is 2 fold - first, the need for a direct electrical connection with the card makes near field scanning of data much more difficult (although rogue swiping is still a potential) - but along with the physical connection, comes the ability to add cryptographic algorithms all the way to the connection point of the card, instead of only at the transaction level. You can't encryption magnetic signals. Second, is the implementation of the "chip and PIN" system that is more common over seas. Chip and PIN requires the entry of a PIN with every transaction, rather than a simple swipe, or swipe and sign. We can see the somewhat obvious benefit of 2 factor security here... Card skimming, hardware cloning, PIN harvesting, hidden hardware MiTM... all still valid attacks... not to mention, the chip and PIN method of security only works for offline and local transactions... the online transactions are still just as vulnerable as they are now...

  6. 15 miles yesterday and today.. both were power rides... 15mph or faster... Your ass will adjust to the saddle quickly if you stick with it, but there always seems to be just a little pain there to remind you where you came from... Bad - give it a good 4 days before you judge the system...I can way 3-5 pounds either way in a matter of 24 hours...liquid(water) weight alone makes a huge difference each day on the scale.

  8. bought the parts I needed to get the thing back up and running after a slow speed crash... sat with a beer (or 2, or 3) deciding what was worse.. the bruised ego, or the scratched and cracked fairings.... Waited....waited....waited.... until parts arrived, installed, and then finally, I rode again...
  9. Well, the bike is finally back up and running... The total damage: New Footpeg (why did honda decide to call these "steps"?) $15 flea-bay score OEM part New upper fairing stay (plastic stay, driver side headlight tab broke in the crash, headlight wouldn't stay in place) $70 Honda dealership order New windscreen bolt kit (2 of the Honda OEM plastic bolts snaped...) $9 flea-bay score for a full bolt kit including black metal bolts The fairings are scratched up, and the mid-cowl cracked, but it all is holding together fine, so no plans to replace those for now. (I would rather ride) Should I plan on an oil change after dumping the bike? - I seem to have it stuck in my head that the gas and oil might possibly be able to mix? Looking through the sight glass, the oil looks fine, and the bike ran fine to get it home...

I think I just found out what true multi-tasking is all about: Chat with technical support for an accounting package, on my cell phone, in order to find assistance in restoring only a portion of a flat file database... At the same time as running a AudioVisual for a multi-presentation staff meeting, At the same time as I was remoted to different servers on my work computer, work laptop, personal laptop, and cell phone, in order to restore functionality to VPN services, web services, sql databases, oh, don't forget, I was restoring the entire company budget within the accounting software... All while attending the said staff meeting. Yep... thats what being a department of one gets me some days!
  11. I am fine on distances... but the climbing still kills me right now... I am more focused on fitness, loosing weight, etc. Just recently started training hills and head winds... 8200' of climb is quite a bit much for me right now... Here is an older picture of the spesh... nothing fancy...but it does what I need it to do... only difference from that picture to now is a larger tail bag, and clipless pedals.
  12. 2 years in the making, I am down to 185 from 240. target weight is 160-170. Bought a cheap walmart road bike at the beginning of the 2013 season, and rode it till it fell apart. Upgraded a few times, riding a nice specialized entry level road bike now. Just rode a 15.2 mph average for just over an hour last night... Training for 2 events next year - a century ride (100 miles) and I want to participate in GOBA (50 mile days for a week, touring a selection of Ohio) No specific diet, just portion control, smart eating, and increased activity 6 out 7 days.
  13. I had this happen to me, after giving a serial number of a gun to a potential trade. It's easy to fight if (BIG IF HERE) you have a sales receipt of some sort. Any more, I make any trader/seller write and sign a bill of sale/trade, for this exact reason. I would go with Gump's suggestion, and have the guy give you some sort of reference to verify that his real intention is just to check the "hot list". In regard to him looking trust-able, his Facebook page saying he's a marine, etc... my Facebook page says I am God, work for Microsoft, and live in Hawaii... So I must be trust-able...
  14. I guess it's my turn to join in the OR BBQ fray! Got the new smoker all setup this weekend.... Decided to try out a relatively forgiving meat while I was learning the subtleties of the smoker...seasoned, ran 1 dry run, then went for a Pork Shoulder... dry brine'd the meat 24 hours, then rubbed with a homemade dry rub. loaded the smoker with lump and cherry, and off it went. 14 hours at 225 degrees, meat reached 203 degrees, a 60 minute rest, and pulled it to eat!
  15. appreciate all the comments...I finally got the foot peg ordered and on its way... I pulled the fairings off to inspect for any other damage, and discovered that the fairing stay is warped (the fairings never lined up right to begin with...) but no other damage was discovered. I am waiting on payday before I can continue, but once the payday hits, I am looking at a gear upgrade, including the helmet. I keep checking the tracking number on the foot peg... thinking maybe it will get here faster... I watch the good weather go by... knowing I can't ride yet....errrgh!

  17. Like this one (man... this makes me miss it): I can see a faint resemblance between the scout and the magna... It will be interesting to see how well it sells. and at what fun factor... I have to admit, this is the first muscle cruiser to catch my eye since I had the magna...

  21. So true! I am running a two brothers slip on right now (it came on the bike), and it is nearly unbearably loud at speed.
  22. I am not real concerned about the lever... it functions, it's straight... and its just the very end of it that is ground. its also the pazzo racing shorty... but thank you!

As soon as I can get, at the very minimum, a replacement foot-peg ordered in, I will be in the saddle again... that's the only thing preventing me from riding right now... the rest will either be ignored or fixed over time... Looks like it will be around $45 from honda for the peg. The turn signal actually went back together without issue, and the rest is truly cosmetic... As to gear... I am sooooo glad I had it all on, even in the low speed that I went down, and even if it is a bit to big (due to recent weight loss)... it did it's job, and did it very well! I will be riding again soon!
  24. Well, I have joined the "bit by loose gravel" club. I was headed to meet up with the brother in law and his brother for a ride around Amish country. Turned right at an intersection, the gravel blended in with the asphalt, and I didn't see it. Rolled the throttle out of the turn, but was right on top of the gravel... was entirely rider mistake... In my attempt to upright the bike, I managed to flip it to far and put it down on the left side. Was only going 10-15mph or so... Broke the left side foot peg, and scraped up the plastics, bar end, clutch lever and left side engine case cover... all cosmetic... doesn't appear to be any mechanical damage. the woodcraft frame and swingarm sliders got chewed up, but did there jobs. had all my gear on, and the only damage to the gear I can find is my helmet... it's scraped up a bit
