  1. Good on him for asking advice, and good on you for guiding him correctly. If he has the fundamental skills to ride, I'm agreed on 650-700 twins. Brand new and no clue riders...I always advise the baby parallels 250-300. For fair insurance, fuel mileage, tires, and maintenance costs - hard to beat a used SV650/ninja650 for first timers like your nephew. Good luck to him
  2. Looks like most riding in with us will meetup in Groveport, unless there are some that haven't chimed in and just show at Comp. Either way, it's good to see we're getting some attendance. I'll update the first post with a list of expected riders. A coworker friend of mine will be joining us as well. He's good people. Hoping the weather holds up, some afternoon showers possible for now - let's hope the clouds wait to urinate until we're all on our way home!
  3. Don't believe they accept actual reservations, but a heads up would be a solid
  4. Nice pick Doc! Suspension will feel better at the track where you're getting more G's down on it, and THAT'S where you should learn to corner a bike like that. If I were you, I'd at least get one trackday in on that thing before you trade/sell it away
  5. Agreed, but Millstone isn't very receptive to groups over 12 just showing up. We did this to them a season or 2 ago and it was a scramble for them, especially at dinner time on a weekend. If we can get a fairly accurate idea of how many will eat there, it would be considerate to call a day before
  6. I'd say this depends on what she's into. If she digs on romance, jewelry, and wine...pick up a nice ring and take her here... http://www.hiddenlakeswinery.com/
  7. I say we petition against chip sealing roadways in Ohio. They're a cheap bullshit pseudo-repair tactic that damages vehicles and Harley rider hides.
  8. Medium is a safe bet. If you want a little quicker pace now and then, move up the line to my six or bump up to med-fast. Either way, always good to start slower in a pack
  9. Hopefully it's nothing too severe and you can sneak in some ride time before winter. Sounds like we're all getting older. I've got some meniscus troubles setting in. Been taking glucosamine chondroitin daily most of the year to keep it at bay, but there are some days I have to live on ibuprofen too. Bullshit is what it is
  10. If we have a dozen in medium group, that's still doable. Most years I end up taking on a couple extras, and that's fine. But I like 10, it's a nice round number....yet there's been very few rides that I've lead where we only had 10 in the group. Now, If we get upwards of 15 medium group riders, I'd rather divide us with another lead/sweep.
  11. Welcome to the forum. Check this site out for good riding... www.motorcycleroads.com
  12. Welcome to the forum. Fremont? Isn't that flat and straight side of Ohio?
  13. Welcome to the forum. So, what's the verdict? Get it sorted yet?
  14. Congratulations new Mom & Dad! Sounds like you 2 went through Hell and back. Give me a holler sometime, the 4 of us haven't been out for dinner since before your wedding bro
  15. Good to hear you didn't tumble down the hill with that big ninja. Sounds like you're getting very acquainted with the hypersport. I loved the size, comfort, stability, and brute power of mine for many years. And I agree with the quieter exhaust of the stock system. I grew tired of the loud, droning, megaphone on mine year after year. Thoroughly enjoying the stealthy tone of my GT so I dont alert every LEO in a 3 mile radius what my throttle hand is doing. If I were you bro, I'd claim it, get it fixed, and add a Veestrom to the stable for those more adventurous rides. Having a 2nd, flickable, bike option in the garage is awesome.
  16. Yup, I plan to be less distracted should we miss a turn, and focus on what my feet will be touching down on.
  17. I usually lead one of the medium groups, and I like to vary the pace up front between a moderate medium and quick medium-fast to keep things fun. I typically throttle down to slow pace so the group can recollect after some of these short bursts ( I hate waiting until the next stop/turn is reached to gather everyone back up in case there's an issue, ultimately keeps us closer together but still allows some faster fun up front ). This wont affect pace towards the rear since there are riders in the group that maintain the medium pace throughout, and that's fine - by all means, ride your own rides PLEASE - but faster riders that have ridden in my groups before know they should ride near the front if they'd occasionally like to wick it up. I like to break up the monotony now and then. Oh, and expect a missed turn or 2 during the ride
