  1. Never said anything about the general quality of work at a shop. I have had a bike come in that state 8 honda fucked up. I understand why they charge $90/hour. I just don't think you're getting what you pay for. I get business almost exclusively by referrals. That's my motivation to make sure everyone that rides out of my garage does so with a smile on their face and money left in their pocket.
  2. 504, I am a professional mechanic. More than that, I've been working on bikes for over 20 years. I've spent a lot of money on specialized tools just to work on bikes. I've built motors from baskets of parts. I've diagnosed and fixed issues that factory techs CAUSED. (Ask Mike ali). Don't pretend to know me dude, whatever you think I am, you're wrong.
  3. I don't prey on anyone, I've done work for a couple guys on here and they were 100% happy with the price and the work. Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know you arguing with me was a public service...your a duc tech, good for you. My day job is an aircraft mechanic, I fix bikes on the side for some extra tax free money. If you don't like my methods, don't bring me your bike....This all started with you shitting on my post regarding how long it would take me to lower the bike and how much I'd charge for it.. and make no mistake, at $90 an hour for labor it's the duc techs that prey on people.
  4. But the japs still insist on making carb bowl screws out of play doh....and their stupid Japanese industrial screws don't dovetail with an American Phillips screwdriver, so step one of any carb job is usually 'strip out screws, remove with dikes or vice grips, replace with stainless socket head cap screws'.
  5. I was at my soon to be mother in laws house when this same scammed called...3 times. She finally lost her patience and started cussing him out, asking him how he slept at night knowing he was a thief etc..never called back.
  6. The older bikes had heavier valves and softer seats and guides. The metallurgy has really improved since then with titanium valves and improved alloy guides, along with a much lighter entire valve train with fewer moving parts. Head, port and valve geometry has also vastly improved in the last 30 years....unless you ride a harley
  7. The 600r is a pretty tried and true bike. It's basically an update of the fzr 600. Same basic motor, trans and frame, little better brakes and suspension and updated graphics and colors. At 87 hp the motor doesn't really make enough power to hurt itself unless it has been subjected to repeated wailing. They're pretty tough bikes and because they're relatively low revving for a 600 (13k redline iirc) the motors generally last a while. Great bikes, a bit heavy but that's because of the super stiff delta box steel frame. Perfect 50-50 weight distribution and comfy. If I could add another bike to the stable I'd look seriously into one.
  8. I'd jump on it. 8k miles on a great bike for $2500? As long as the frame and forks are straight it's a no brainer.
  9. Omg your still on this? I thought we agreed to stfu already. This affects you in no way, you're just arguing because you think you're right and you can't stand being disagreed with. Fuckin let it go dude.
  10. Ride it out. It can feel like you're just a passenger if your bike gets locked into a groove, but it's not going anywhere. I'm sure they'll resurface the ramp eventually.
  11. Nothing sounds better than a vfr with aftermarket pipes when the vtec kicks in...it's just...magical.
  12. Oh that's the old holeshot ktm, right under the freeway overpass, I know exactly where they are.
  13. The fear of the yellow line will also cause this, nobody wants to go left of center, your mind has been programmed never to do it, so subconsciously you shy away from really tipping it in on lefties...
  14. I had never heard of madman and I'm in the akron area. Doesn't ebay tell you not to do business directly with ebay vendors? Why didn't you perform the transaction through eBay where you have recourse? Gift payment should have been a red flag. Idk who you dealt with but nowhere in akron can you find a location that's an hour away from a post office. I've had to deal with out of state mail order parts companies before and it is a total pain. It took me like 8 months to get a used clutch once, and I had to threaten to take them to court.
  15. I have what can only be described as a jealousy boner.
  16. Ok....is it shiny and chromey?
  17. I go on one slow group ride a year and usually just pass everyone by the time we're on the return leg.
  18. And I've been neglecting mine. I don't ride into work anymore because I'm on day shift now and it's just a Hassel when you wake up with barely enough time to get out of the door...then I get home and work on the yard or whatever, always something else to do, always and excuse....no more. Gonna put a few hundred on the clock this week weather permitting. And now, we return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
  19. I've personally done 90 on a harley...a few actually. The vrod will do 90 in first gear. The other one was a dyna low rider and it took some persuasion but eventually got up there. Your problem might have been that this particular harley rider was also old as fuck, scared as fuck or dumb as fuck. Some people shouldn't ride.
  20. My fzr was really low miles too....Most of the bikes I've bought were pretty low miles, my 97 tl1000 only had like 17k on the clock when I bought it. The fzr was around 20. My bandit was I think right around 20 too. As previously stated, as long as it's been maintained miles aren't a huge factor but there's no way of knowing how it was ridden. Check under the back seat for rubber from burnouts, look for evidence of stunting like scraped up or mid matched plastics, don't buy from a kid under 25 with a flat brim hat on....look at the person's home: if the lawn is manicured and the car is spotless, bike was probably cared for. If there's a few dogs living under the porch and they have a litany of vehicles relying on cinder blocks for support in the yard, keep shopping.
  21. I should add that I wouldn't lift a bike with the kind of headers thst are sprung together like this...like a yosh full system you receive in pieces and is held together by springs...I'm talking a header that is welded up.
