  1. Neat setup for some homegrown green stuff.
  2. Welcome, and you're right about the lack of twisties up here in NEO.
  3. Hell, an 883 is a better starter bike than a POS Blast.
  4. The N/A 944's have the same rear spoiler but that is where the similarities start to disappear. The N/A's are fun to drive and easier to work on but they lack that wonderful and addictive boost along with the other features of the 951. Put simply, they're too damn slow. I bought it for its uniqueness and rarity along with the nearly unparalleled handling Porsche designed into the car and of course, the turbo. I've owned more turbo cars than any other type and love what a little 4 banger with a turbo can offer in terms of performance. I've also learned just how hard it is to find a true enthusiast who is willing to pay what I want for it despite the fact I'm losing big time money-wise (and also with the Duc). At this point, I may never be able to sell them without completely losing my ass financially and should probably sell my Ram, instead. I can hear the world's smallest violin playing in the background so that is enough of the self-pity bullshit.
  5. It's funny you say that because we were having this exact discussion over on a Porsche site and everyone was saying the Miata's attracted chicks while the 944's attracted dudes.
  6. Just a guess, but I think a little 'ol Miata is a better chic magnet than this thing....it hasn't worked for me, it probably won't work for him.

    From the album: Misc.

  8. That sums up the situation we're in perfectly.
  9. The real difference, aside from the obvious power output (95 vs. 122, I think), is how each engine produces its power, imo. The 748 is a high-rev motor while the 996 is torquey with power available down low and mid-range so you don't have to stay on top of the power curve. The 748 is more nimble but I think the 996 is more practical because of the power band.
  10. This link summarizes the swap options fairly well: http://www.ebay.com/gds/DUCATI-748-916-996-Engine-Motor-Conversion-/10000000004031397/g.html There is a ton more info, though, on Ducati.ms.
  11. The frames are identical but Ducati did change the engine bolts from 10mm to 12mm in 2000 or 2001 plus you'll need the 748 to have the 3 phase electronics, but otherwise, it bolts right in.
  12. Yeah, the clutch is a PITA and a competent Porsche shop should have it done in 8 hours....about $1200 + in just labor and the clutch is $1000 +. I think Steinel's Autowerks up in Twinsburg quoted me at or about that for just the clutch job alone with my parts. The timing belt/rollers was another $1,500 in labor alone with my parts. I'm willing to swap on the original rims and lower the price to $6,500 to help with the pending maintenance cost. The speed sensors are also a PITA but mine are in great shape, so no worries there. Fun car with expensive maintenance for something I hardly drive and I'd prefer having a lifted Wrangler - easy to work on and relatively cheap to do so, too.
  13. 1986 Porsche 951, 2.5L Turbo 4 cylinder, 5 speed w/ factory transmission cooler, 93,253 miles, no mods other than aftermarket wheels, all original, runs great. Guards Red, black interior, script linen seats, script door handles, VERY clean inside and out. Working A/C, cruise control, power moonroof, power windows, power steering, no cracks in the dash, original Blaupunkt AM/FM tape player, typical 951 quirks. 17"x9" and 17"x10" forged CCW's with UHP Summer tires (force load balanced) are currently on the car and included. IF the buyer doesn't want the CCW's, I will install the teledials and lower the price. This is an original Florida car. Garage stored since I've owned it, doesn't leak or burn oil but it did leak PS fluid (the belt has been removed) and is not driven in the Ohio winters. I've buffed out the paint several times but it apparently wasn't garaged its whole life down in Florida - the paint is far from pristine. Synthetic oil is all that I've used in the engine (currently using Royal Purple). Transmission and rear differential were both serviced last year. Has a few dings but is rust and dent free. Replaced the tie rods 2 years ago and it has a new NAPA battery. Maintenance needs: Clutch is chattering on engagement, needs replacement, tranny shifts fine. I bought a replacement but it might not be what the buyer will want since it is an upgrade over stock. Timing belt and rollers are due (have a Kevlar replacement already purchased). A/C needs to be recharged (blows semi-cold), still has 12A. Have a set of used Bilstein Sports which can be included. Oil pressure sensor is bad. PS lines leak (have purchased both lines from Paragon and will be included) and the PS belt has been removed for the interim. Rear hatch release needs some work, very finicky, and the struts are shot. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I also have a collection of maintenance records/receipts going back to the original owner but I do not believe it is a complete collection. Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3's front/rear, stock sizes are on the original teledial 16" wheels and can be included if the buyer wants them. Comes with a clean OH title. This car is not perfect and needs some TLC (clutch, timing belt/rollers). $7,000 obo, will consider a trade for a lifted Jeep Wrangler (clean, rust free, 4.0L, 5 speed or V-8 conversion) or an RV motorhome (class A or C) of equal value. $6,000 w/out the CCW's and the stock 16" teledials installed. PM me here or email derekc23@gmail.com These are just a few photos of the car and more are in my gallery from 2012. If you don't see something and want a photo taken, let me know.
  14. http://akroncanton.craigslist.org/mcy/4588779429.html '99 748 with 36,684 miles with a 2001 996 powerplant that has approximately 6,600 miles on it. The 996 chip and dual injector throttle bodies are also installed. 5 spoke Marchesini wheels. Diablo Stradas tires with approximately 4,100 miles on them. Ducati Snowflake rotors. Barnett clutch pack, Barnett clutch basket, and an MPL pressure plate with TPO stainless springs, bolts and anodized caps. The clutch pushrod and slave cylinder is updated to the new Ducati style. The pilot seat is a Sargent, and the passenger seat a professionally covered in a black aftermarket seat cover. The rear eccentric hub has been replaced and new fresh bearings have been added and maintained meticulously. The exhaust is a Fast By Ferracci half system which includes the exhausts, and a polished midpipe. The rear swingarm is powdercoated and the swingarm pivot bearings have been replaced and shaft lubed on schedule. The frame and subframe has been finely bead blasted and powder-coated gloss black. The bike comes with Ducati Performance air intake runners and a Twin-Air cleanable foam filter. The rear sprocket cover is also DP. The engine has been equipped with a Nichols lightweight flywheel. The clutch housing is Ducati Performance Magnesium. A carbon fiber chainguard and rear hugger has been added. Front wheel bearings have been replaced three years ago. The valve clearances have been checked and adjusted according to LT Snyder's recommendations. Regina 525 Gold chain. In-tank fuel filter has been removed and mounted externally for easy maintenance. New Ferrodo front brake pads and Brembo back pads. LED integrated tail light, original is still on hand. HID kit with 3000K high beam and 6000K low beam. Can easily be switched back. The mid fairings have been replaced with 996 plastic after the original left lower fell apart at highway speeds two years ago (can only surmise it had hairline cracks due to age, the bike has never been wrecked) . I still have the original right yellow mid. Added the upper CF fairing and front fender two years ago. The original 748 engine, original 996 clutch housing, steel clutch cover, extra radiator, extra expansion tank, 748 throttle bodies, FBF 916 Stage I chip, original 3 spoke wheels, AFAM 40 tooth sprocket, 38 tooth JT sprocket, 14 tooth Renthal front sprocket, Sprocket Specialists quick change carrier, original factory flywheel, original license bracket with turn signals, extra headlamp, water pump plumbing and impeller, complete original 748 engine along with heads, cams, pistons, etc... and a ton of other extra parts. Clean and clear OH title. $4,500 obo (no low ball offers will be entertained) Please call three zero four 741-7335.
  15. I had to exhaust my G.I. Bill to pay for school but ran it dry before finishing my degree. While weighing my options to pay for it with loans and/or grants, I wound up getting a decent job back home which led to where I'm at now. In retrospect, I'm glad I didn't wind up borrowing any money to pay for my education and being trapped in that kind of debt (I'm currently debt-free). Of course, now I'm fed up with my corporate job and it is an everyday struggle not to hand in my resignation. If I go back to school, it'll be for skills and not a degree.
  16. I put over 75k miles on my first bike, a 1987 Ninja 750, and have bought other high mileage bikes in the past. Like the others have stated, if the bike has been well maintained it shouldn't be a deterrent from buying one.
