  1. Suppose you want to tow a trailer behind your bike.

    Here's what I've read:

    • The loaded trailer weight should not exceed half of the bike's engine size in cc's.
    • The loaded trailer weight should not exceed half of the bike's weight.
    • The tongue weight should be between 6 and 10% of the loaded trailer weight.

Do you have anything to offer to this?

    2nd Question:

For a small bike which would only be able to tow a very light trailer, probably one that

is homemade, would a set of sturdy bicycle wheels be able to handle highway speeds

if used on such a trailer as long as the trailer's weight was kept within the above

    guidlines?

Thanks for all input you care to give.

  2. I prefer to keep problems behind me, behind me, and at a rapidly

growing distance.  On the other hand, if noticeable problems are

ahead of me, a quick exit and 3 minute rest on the on ramp tends

to get them far enough ahead of me to make my ride enjoyable

    again for a while.

  3. He was not set up to enter that turn at that speed and still maintain his lane.

He braked in the turn, standing the bike upright, then panic breaked even

more to avoid the truck which stood the bike up even more.

He should have dived into the turn at the first hint of an issue and poured

    the juice to it.

No wind behind those rocks, so he's full of shit.

I gave the 2nd video a generous 3 minutes of my life and got nothing for it.

  4. ,...in a couple of spots it has a slight ping, that concerns me.  70 mph in 5th which is 3K and right in the sweetspot for hp/torque on this bike if I go WOT it pings.

  5. Coast up the driveway while shifting into neutral and hitting the kill switch. Return switch to run position. Stop bike and drop kickstand. Get off and find proper key in headlight. Open garage, back bike into space, place bike on center stand. Turn off key, lock steering, remove key. Remove gear, clean helmet, stow gloves inside, insert helmet into bag.

Bike will get moved in and out of garage, so I leave the side stand down for convenience.

  6. Currently looking at an 07 legacy and an 09 impreza, both with right around 100k on them.

I'm on my 2nd Subaru Outback.  I got it with 6700 miles and it now has 145k on it.

I like the AWD all the time.  When the road is slick, I hardly know it.  It hugs the

corners and it's a fine car for what my needs are.  Mine is a wagon, and I haul

    stuff regularly.

Regarding the timing belt.  I had a new one installed at 125k miles or so.  I didn't

know that it is also recommended to change the head gaskets at that point.  My

heads gaskets when sour and it cost me some money.  But, the car has been up

and running fine since then (earlier this year).

Subaru is at the top of my list, as I drive 30+ miles one way for work, and I'm expected

to be there regardless of the weather.  Other than brakes, tires, catalytic  converter,

wipers, headlights, tail lights, interior light, battery, the "Y" exhaust pipe in the

rear, and the two front axles, I haven't done anything else to it, except for plugs

and wires when i took it in for the timing belt.  It was a long time before I had to put

    any money into it.

For driving over 100k, before I needed to put it in the shop, I don't think that is

    too bad.

My guideline for purchasing a vehicle is to buy one with less than 10k miles per

year of age.  They are out there if you keep your eyes open before you actually

    have the need to purchase.

  7. Get the charging system checked after you get it running. Batteries don't go dead on their own during a ride.

Batteries do go dead on their own after a ride......if you don't keep water in them. It happened to me this summer. I didn't check it like I should.
  8. Get some punk kid to cut off all four valve stems on her tires at a time when you have witnesses to your whereabouts. I also like the idea of having the car towed to somewhere in BFE. Cash payment, of course. Fish emulsion (plant fertilizer) poured down her air vents will not make her drive home a happy one.
