  1. I think they were both wrong. Each should have offered the other the space. The ending was good though.
  2. The car to your right, failed to turn right, from a right-turn-only lane. The car to your right chose to continue forward knowing that his lane had expired. The car to your right chose to drive onto the sidewalk. He flipped on his left signal but failed to slow his vehicle to allow traffic to clear to his left in order to safely enter your lane. I don't see anything here that involves you at all and if I was behind you and you suddenly braked to allow him in, I would be irritated because he should have made the turn or sat waiting for an opening without interrupting the flow of traffic in our lane. We didn't owe him an entry. He f'd up when he didn't prepare for lane change back there like we did. .
  3. While I educate myself about what bikes I should consider for upgrading to, ideas come to mind that I need advice on. Here are my current wonderings. Decide which motors are going to do what I want them to do in the ways that I want them done. Find bikes with these motors that fit the style of riding that I'm going to want to do. Decide which bike with a desirable motor has the creature comforts and accessories that I desire. Is this a logical way of narrowing down my choices or is there a better approach you would like to share with me? .
  4. Just wondering, is there a rule of thumb that says adding or removing a tooth on the front sprocket is the equivalent of removing or adding a certain number of teeth on the rear? Just wondering about making an I-4 a little torquier or giving a twin more at the top. Feedback? .
  5. I've had one of those R2D2 type Char Broil H2O water smokers for about 20 years and it's still going strong. I've made a lot of brisket in it, a few turkeys, ribs, chicken, salmon, and I don't know what else. I use a home made rub on my brisket then wrap it in Saran Wrap overnight in the fridge. I also make my sauce. I use a recipe from a book and it always comes out right. The sauce goes over the meat after it's shredded and placed in a roasting pan, just before it goes into the oven for 45 minutes. Try any of the recipes you find and give them a go. You'll find something that works for you. .
  6. Amish drifting, no doubt. Giddyup! .
  7. Right on! Power to the people! .
  8. It irritates the crap out of me too. I back away from such drivers so as to not be inclined to brake every time they touch the brake pedal. Me too. I don't want to apply the brakes all the time. I just want you to know I'm slowing or stopped.
  9. A balaclava, also known as a balaclava helmet or ski mask, is a form of cloth headgear that covers the whole head, exposing only part of the face. Often only the eyes or eyes and mouth are left exposed. The name "balaclava" comes from the town of Balaklava, near Sevastopol in Crimea, Ukraine.
  10. I'm on my 2nd Subaru Outback. I would never buy new, because for me the depreciation is a waste of money I can spend on other things. Once you put miles on a new car, it's used anyway. My way is to seek a vehicle with 10k miles or less per year of age. You can find them out there, just don't wait until you have to buy before you start looking. I'm sold on Subaru with their AWD all the time. It gets me where I want to go in the nastiest of weather no matter how much snow is on the road and it's a blast to drive. It's build on a car chassis and rides well, not like a SUV on a truck frame. A used $20,000 Subaru will last you through several winters and get you there in comfort. You will never be sorry you bought one. .
  11. I got drafted to work Thursday so I'm doing my dinner today. I did a deep fried turkey back in the summer so I'm having a roast duck today since I'm planning on squeezing in some riding tomorrow. I'll probably have a turkey for Christmas.
  12. Do you think a car is the only thing she has on her 'demand' list? I'll bet she made out a 'demand' list way before she agreed to let you get that bike. Be ready. Her ever growing list of wishes is soon to be revealed. Oh brother, she is going to make you pay dearly now. .

  14. :dirtbike::biker::smilieRR::cruiser::wheeliezx10: :zx10r::motorcycle: Hooligans! Every last one of them. Look at 'em. There they go ridin' them motorsickles. The streets are not safe anymore. Lock up your daughters. Here they come again. :D
  15. That bike was on my list of ones to consider before I found the one I have now. I'll have to find one to check out.
  16. I think there is nothing worse than a bored cop on a slow night. I've seen issues made where no issues existed before a couple of cops walked up and provoked one. Law enforcement is in many ways predatory and victims are sought out for the extraction of money from their pockets. I try hard not to be a victim. .
  17. You have two against one. They will make sure they have their stories straight and it might not resemble the truth if you go to court. They don't have to care. You are just another perp on the road, in their book. We are not one of them. They will not be 'wrong' when they pull you over. They can fabricate any reason they want to get you to the side of the road and then they can keep you there until they've had enough of you. Anyway you look at it, there will be money taken out of your pocket and given to someone else. It's a tax extracted from anyone they can make a charge stick to. I stay under the radar and try not to stand out. There is always someone with authority wanting to make a point about having power that you don't have and can't do anything about. Power is often abused and I don't want to be the victim of the day. Cops are just like you and me.....in ways. In other ways, when there is more than one of them, the more distance you can keep between them and yourself, the less likely you are to be caught up in something that you may have had no part in. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time, or you fit the description. If you do have to officially deal with them, you better mind your "P's and Q's" and remember all your manners and attitudes of respect because they don't have to care. They just have to come up with something they can make stick to you and if there is two of them, your story will never hold up against the one that they come up with. .

  19. I got that book from the Library before I got my bike. I read it and it explained countersteering so that I understood it. Now that I've been riding, I'm ready to read it again so that I can put the information to use and have a better understanding of what's going on. .
  20. It was nearly 15 degrees difference between Newark and Columbus this morning. I intended to ride to work this morning but it was colder than I expected. When I got to work, I wished I had ridden. I ended up taking the car. On the way home, I saw a lot of bikes buzzing along and couldn't help but wonder which of you could have been one of them. As soon as I got home I jumped on my bike and took a ride. It felt good. Yesterday, I did the same thing. I ended up going down to Somerset and west on Rt 22 into Lancaster, then north on Rt 37 heading back home. Today, it was a cruise up Rt 79, west on a side road (Blacksnake Rd), then south on Martinsburg Rd. and back to Newark. I don't know how I'm going to stand not riding when the snow is on the ground. What's the cure? Move to Florida? .
  21. Yeah, I know. It was more wishful thinking than an expectation that speed of airflow would actually warm me. The colder it is in the morning on your way to work on your motorcycle, the more you wish that air friction would warm you. However, there is a basic thermodynamic relationship between pressure and temperature from compression of the air ahead of a hypersonic vehicle. A hot shock wave is created in front of the vehicle and a convective heat transfer occurs between the shock wave and the vehicle through superheated plasma. What do you mean 85 mph is not hypersonic??? .
  22. That's all good to know. I never knew how they got their numbers. I'll remember this when I go shopping..
  23. There's a limiter? According to the speedo, I've had it up to around 85. I backed off because I was approaching traffic. I'm afraid to press it beyond that. That's fast for me. It was on the freeway on the way to work one chilly morning. I was hoping air friction would warm me up and overcome the wind chill. It didn't work. .
  24. This is where my head is right now. Keep me reminded of this. Cooter's suggestion to get the bike I want and to resist the temptation of twisting the righthand grip past the point of good sense is like putting an exotic beauty in front of me and asking me not to look. .
