Thanks for the feedback, Gunner, and everyone else. It looks like gravel is a real hazard. I'll check the map for that area, 600zz. ..... I just did. It looks like a 12.1 mile stretch. That could be a long way if it's on gravel. With a leisurely pace that mostly respects the posted speed limits, would you recommend a different route if the gravelly part was avoided? .

I'm thinking of a ride, down the 555. I checked the Google map and it seems to start in Zanesville and goes to Belpre, on the Ohio river. My idea is to make a long day of it by leaving early, riding down, finding a sit down restaurant and getting a meal, either in Belpre or across the river in Parkersburg, and then buzzing back up north to home. I don't know when, but I want good weather for the ride. I can do it on a Tuesday or Wednesday (my regular days off) or I can use a vacation day if I get approval in advance. Anyone with any knowledge of this route, please give me your insight, and share your experiences about taking this ride. If anyone is interested in riding along, that would be great. I'm not so interested in a brisk pace as I am in enjoying a relaxed pace. Feedback please? .

I'm 17. I know everything. I can ride a four-wheeler so it's only logic that a two-wheeler would be half as hard to ride. What could I possibly need to learn? I would never try anything that could get me hurt. I would never try to show off in front of my friends. I would never try anything that I wasn't ready for. I know not to wreck my motorcycle. I will take good care of it. I won't get hurt. I know how to ride one. No, I've never ridden one but I know how to ride one. A big motorcycle is just as easy to ride as a small one. Oh yeah, kid? I was browsing the threads and came across this link in someone's message and decided it was worth putting it in the spotlight for a bit. I checked it out and thought it was a great little tool to plan rides, change routes, or whatever else you can find it useful for. It would have been great for the Dream Ride. The route could have been printed out for each person, with not only a map but written directions as well. I connected a power hookup to my GS 500F. It has three cigarette lighter type sockets and two USB type connections. My intent was to have a way to charge my cell phone. The USB connections will work nicely for that. My question here is, I have an inverter with two 110 VAC sockets, just like a wall outlet. It's my wish to also be able to charge my video camera battery. It's charger plugs into the wall. The inverter plugs into a cigarette lighter. Am I going to have a problem or fry any electronics or electricals if I plug the inverter into my power hookup and try to charge my camera battery while I'm riding?

Any emergency, crisis, natural disaster, etc. may be used as an excuse to break into your home and take your guns. They did it during hurricane Katrina, in affluent areas, far from the flooded areas. Verbal resistance was met with violence and detainment. Physical resistance was met with death. They are coming. The next emergency or disaster in your area could put you right in the target zone. Remember the lengthy power outages we've had in the past over widespread areas? Food shortages, gas shortages, no electricity, no heat, no water, etc. could trigger panic that would result in desperate attempts by people to feed themselves and their families and take from those who have prepared and stored food and water ahead of time. Police with families in these areas also have to feed their families. You could be driving along some night and come upon a roadblock. They would tell you it's an emergency situation, and they take half of your gasoline. Or, they "commandeer" your four-wheel drive. The sheriff has the authority to do that in an emergency. Hmmm. I bought a motorcycle because I've always wanted one and decided that it's way past my turn to get something that I can enjoy. That enjoyment is good when I'm alone and it's good when it's shared. The very same questions could be asked of anyone who travels any distance to attend any event or assembly that includes others they have never met, but share in the enjoyment of a particular sport/activity/show/etc. Flip the conversation to ask them: "Have you ever been to a concert, a music event? Have you been to a restaurant? Have you been to a convention, a movie, a park, a church, a city? Have you attended anything that included others that you did not know?" "How is it that you became aware of this location/event/assembly? Newspaper? Radio? TV? Airplane pulling a banner? Smoke signals? Wild rumors in a the bar? Billboard? Woke up with a headache and a new tattoo that reads, Dinner, Tuesday, 6 pm at the Broken Spoke Cafe'?.........or just possibly, however unbelievable, the (are you ready for it?).......the I N T E R N E T ??? "Did you know there would be people there that you would not know, and would also not know each other, all around you, possibly enjoying their attentance just as you would be?" I remember being pleased that when searching Google one day, up popped a place where other motorcyclists could meet safely, online, to share what they pleased, with others with a common interest. One of the most appealing reasons was that most of these others were also in Ohio or bordering states. That means, in the same geographical area, giving the possibility that group activities, meet and greets, or rides with new friends may be likely. Browse the "Introductions" pages off the Forums tab above. I counted 14+ pages of people, just like you, just like me, 20 people per page, wanting to be a part of something and have basically said, "Hi! I like motorcycles. Can I come in and be a part of what you are a part of?" And that is only going back one year. From the "Community" tab > Members List > "Join Date" tab, you can see this forum's birth, over six years ago, with only three members. Two days later, six more. On the third day, thirteen more asked to be let in, and on it goes. Here we are six years later and still, weekly, there are knocks at the door to ask, "You are a part of something that, I want to be included in, that I enjoy, that I wish to share, with others, just like myself. Can you please let me in, for I am one of you?" Read those knocks at the door on the "Introductions" pages. Perhaps you will see yourself in the names and faces of the huddled masses wishing to enter. I think we pretty much share in the reasons why we want to be among each other for many of our reasons are the same, and it's only the names and the faces behind those reasons that change. ~ Jack .

I had on a tee-shirt under a sweat shirt under a mesh riding jacket with only the rain liner in it. I pulled the quilted liner out at the meet up. It was way too warm. My lowers were a pair of jeans covered with riding pants with both the rain and quilted liner. I was sweaty from waist down the whole time. I should have left the quilted liner out and I would have been fine. I was wearing my summer riding gloves, leather with mesh tops, and I was just fine. I would have been fine in much colder temperatures the way I dressed. It was my first time riding in those temperatures and I really didn't know what to expect. .

If you can post up a time and a location to meet for the 9th, as soon as you get it planned, that would be good.

I may be interested but I can't do it before the early afternoon. I won't have an exact time until the last minute. Blitz was wanting to ride Tuesday, in that direction.. Send him a private message and give him an invite.

I stepped into the house in Newark at 5:40 pm. I wasn't ready to stop riding. If I didn't have to work tomorrow I may still be on the road. I had a great time and it was good to meet everyone. I didn't get to shake everyone's hand but I did meet most of you. For the rest, it will have to wait until next time. Let's do this again.
