  1. That's my weakness. My way of resisting temptations is to avoid them. It's possible that I should never be permitted on a litre bike. .
  2. Would you pay me $8820 for that bike today, right here, right now? That's how much money he is asking to walk away with if he sells it through the dealership. That's a lot of savings over the NADA value for the bike at $10,240. If you are willing to pay $8500, I wouldn't bother playing games and would just tell him this is what you offer based on today's value of the bike with your offer decreasing as the bike ages. Paying the full $9800 is a deal according to the prices I've seen on the internet. This isn't the only one out there. Don't fall in love with it. But if you want this one - at the price he is asking isn't it likely to sell quickly? .
  3. C'mon in. Coffee pot is over there and there's three donuts left. Make yourself at home. .
  4. That bike gets my attention but I don't think I'm ready for such a leap from my little 500. It is on my dream bike list along with the FJR, Connie 14, and a BMW K1600GT. We can dream, I suppose. .
  5. I'm not ready to buy one today. I'm just beginning my research on what to move up to.
  6. Here's one I thought you might enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7tBHoq49RU&feature=related
  7. I'm surprised they didn't also sue the gas station for selling them a product with flammable vapors.
  8. This may kick over the already opened can of worms but some things need saying. >> Was Libya an inside job? << I think it was. I think Chairman "O" is one of them. We are told that we are not at war with Islam. Well, they all know they are at war with us, and history has proved that they are. It has been said that Islam will attack us financially. The attack on the World Trade towers was a financial attack as much as anything else you want to call it. Chairman "O", the guy in the White House, is one of them. He bowed to the Saudi king, just as a subject would. In exchange for their money which helped to put him in the White House in the first place, he must allow the Islamists some victories. Libya was one of those victories he allow them, as a live feed allowed the battle to be watched in real time, in the comfort of his own residence. In addition to that, the economic condition we are now in as a result of the last fours year's administration is also a financial attack on our wealth as a country. If he is permitted to remain in power the next four years, you can look for much worse to occur. Already, it has been said that in Washington D.C. resident's new gun purchases will be over. They will only make purchases of used guns within their own city and only from private individuals. New guns purchased from dealers will only be permitted to law enforcement. I can't help but wonder if National Guard units activated to the hurricane Sandy areas are kicking in doors in the middle of the night and forceably taking the guns of law abiding citizens just like they did in non-flooded and untouched areas around New Orleans after hurricane Katrina. It's coming. It's fk'ing coming. .
  9. Thanks everyone for all the great information. That's a lot to digest. I'll check things out and have more questions as time goes on. I was under the impression that a jump from a GS 500 to a liter bike would be huge for my level of experience. It's not that I don't like speed and quickness, it's that I like it maybe a little too much for my skill level right now. My way, is to stay away from temptations that could cause me pain until I have developed skills to handle them. Still, I want feedback. A jump to an 800 would not be an irresponsible move for me at this point? Tell me more.
  10. :biker: This is my first year of riding. I've had a blast riding with many of you. I'm looking forward to riding with many more of you in the years to come. Now, I need some advice and ideas about my next bike. Here's the details. I bought my first bike, an '08 Suzuki GS 500F, in April. It only had 1300 miles on it when I got it and I put about 2700 miles on it since then. I'm counting on riding it through next season and putting many more miles on it. And since I have less of a learning curve next year and can eat up more miles faster than this year, I hope to be a much more experienced rider by then. At that time I'm thinking I may wish to upgrade to a little more motorcycle. I'm just not sure how much more motorcycle. This is where your years of experience and expertise come in. I like the idea of Sport Touring, a quick bike with places to put things, that is easily maneuverable and good on the twisties. I don't need a rocket but I want the power to put a lot of real estate between me and trouble at a moment's notice. I want a place to put my pants and jacket liners, and rain gear, along with other things that my pockets will not hold but that I will want to take on the road with me; items like Bug Slide, for cleaning off my face shield each time a big yellow bug splatters in the center of my viewing area, for example. My question is, what is the most logical step up from what I ride now, to the riding I want to do? Right now, my riding is just around Ohio. Later, I may wish to ride into another state or even farther and may wish to spend some nights on the road. I'm not interested in the cruiser style of bike or the leaning over, crotch rocket style. I like the standard / upright riding position, much like what I have now, without a lot of weight on my arms or strain in my back, a bike that when I have to get off of it, will be for reasons other than needing to work a kink out something that has cramped up. It doesn't have to be a new bike because $$$'s are an issue. But if I can sell my present bike for nearly what I paid and add another $3000, I should be able to spend between $6 and 7000. My limitations are that my inseam is 29 inches. My current bike has a 31.1 inch seat height. I can flatfoot it at a stop, but I usually don't because I don't need to. The Connie 14 is tall for me but if it could be set up for my height I could consider it, a few bikes from now. I know it's a lot more bike than I should consider at my present experience level. It's just what my fantasies point me towards down the road. The other large sport touring models make my mouth water just as much. Give me ideas, advice, answers, or threats. I'm all ears. Thanks to all. .
  11. Hey! You didn't wipe your feet before coming in. It's okay. We didn't wipe ours either. :givemebeer: ... and ... .
  12. Admission here is one can of your favorite brew, and a can of Spaghetti O's. Put the beer in the fridge and grab one that's already cold. Had your shots yet? Better get them before you spend too much time in here or you will catch "it". Can you tell that most of us are already infected? :welcome: .
  13. What's that puddle under the bike? Oh wait, they don't do that anymore, do they? C'mon in. Something is always cooking in here and it usually smells like trouble. :welcome: .
  14. Wipe your feet and c'mon in. Have a seat. Leave your shoes on though, and don't put your feet on the furniture. Don't touch anything without washing your hands afterwards. It can get a bit grimey in here. Watch out when seeking "experience." You may find that experience offered is not experience you seek. Keep your spray can of bullshit repellant handy. You may need it often. .
  15. Hey, thanks for that link. I just learned it would cost me 20% more a year, in Charlotte, just to maintain my current lifestyle. I better rethink my wishes. .
  16. Forget the "Reynoldsburg to Columbus" thing. You don't want to move to somewhere like Reynoldsburg. The bad that was in Whitehall has traveled to Reynoldsburg to get away from itself and in doing so has taken itself with it. You want to stick with the "Pataskala to Columbus" concept while it's good, for the next 15 years, before it becomes the next Reynoldsburg. .
  17. There is a YouTube video that addresses that. Clearcoat, as we know it, is not a good thing to use if you want to peel it off. There is a gloss coating you can use to make it as glossy as what it takes to make you happy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_Dw2fVoIqA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Gli0dxeFUQ I can now have the same paint theme on my helmet as what I put on my bike. . .
  18. The PlastiDip Videos on YouTube make it look like it would be worth a go. You now have me thinking about it. They also have a gloss coating to make it as shiny as you choose, or you can stay with the matte finish. As for it's durability, I think if enough coats are applied, it would hold up quite well, according to what I've seen on the videos. I'd like to see the finished result in person, and after a year, also, before I try it myself. I did see that it's easily repairable. I'm not thrilled about the paint scheme on my bike and if I could easily change it without damage to the original finish there just may be some appeal here for me. .
  19. The worst I've had to deal with was a bug filled with yellow goop that spattered on my face shield. I'm sold on face shields and full face helmets.
  20. You could keep the engine off with the bike in first gear and walk it down using the clutch and front brake to control it's decent. But if it was me, I would keep my feet on the pegs with the motor running and in first gear and go just fast enough to keep control, while using both brakes lightly and carefully. As long as your wheels are turning, you will have some traction and more control. If the wheels started locking up I would feather my brakes just like you were in a car and stopping on ice.
  21. Sorry James. I just couldn't help myself.
  22. So, what kind of tattoo is she getting for her birthday? Haha!
  23. Oh, nice, nice, nice. This is the year they moved the shift lever to the left side of the bike to appeal more to us 'Yanks'. A guy I rode with today was on a '66 Triumph with the shifter on the right. And dig that kick starter! Nice bike. . Before I forget..........so.....
