I washed and waxed the Connie today. Apparently, that is what your supposed to do when you don't ride them. Not riding motorcycle sucks! Ride on Bitches!

I ride that same route on occasion. There isn't much traffic, so it is a lot of fun. The road isn't in the best of conditions, but it can be easily ridden at a pretty good pace.

Heli-bars help a lot however I still don't think that will be enough help with how bent your knee would be still
Unfortunately knee bend and weight are going to be my primary motorcycle concerns for a while.

I went to a dealer today and sat on a VFR800, and you guys are right. The FZ1 seems to be the way to go. Now time to watch Craigslist.

Depends on what you're looking for in a bike.
The Gen 2 is more sporty, the Gen 1 is more tour-y. Gen 1 carbs are smoother in traffic out of box, bigger gas tank, better two up; Gen 2 FI is better for engine response, the suspension is more modern, looks a bit nicer IMHO.
Coming from a Connie the Gen 1 might be more up your alley regarding rider demographic, but the Gen 2 is a great bike as well.

Stay away from 06 and 07 as they do have issues with frame welds and stators.
There seems to be a lot of fz1s for sale now (as well as vfrs). I need something somewhat light, and it can't have too much of a sporting riding position. This will allow me to start riding in a few weeks, and I can resume riding the Connie and sporty bike in the spring. (New ACL should be 100% this winter.) How is the Gen 1 FZ1d vs early 2000s VFRs? It seems like I could get either one inexpensively, then sell it in the spring if I don't like it.

It seems that the Gen 1 FZ1s are more popular than the Gen 2 due to fuel mapping issues. Did this ever get resolved, or do they need a fuel commander? Would I be better off looking at Gen 1s?

I have been considering adding a first generation FZ1 to the garage. I have always liked them and the KLR from afar. My concern is that it may be too similar to the Connie, so I may not ride it much. I am hoping that the lighter FZ1 may allow me to return to riding sooner than my Connie. Any thoughts or suggestions?

My neighbor had the same injury - distal end of the bicep tore right off the bone leaving him looking like someone implanted a golf ball up near in shoulder.
He's back to 100% now, though. All the best and hope you heal up as soon as possible.
We need to start a club for injured bikers who can't ride. A sad, sad little club. We can meet at a Starbucks and sit in the corner making "brumm bruumm" noises.
Kind of like this:

How did that go?
Thanks for the tip on the ice machine. I have about 3 weeks notice on the surgery so I'm gonna have to gather stuff up for it.
I tore my miniscus, ACL, and bone bruising in the knee . My surgery was about 3.5 weeks after the injury. Once I could walk (but before my surgery) , I rode an exercise bike as often as I could. I did a bunch of exercises to help with the recovery.
I am about 3.5 weeks past my surgery, and I am still walking with crutches on uneven ground. I can walk short distances around the house without crutches, but my better half (which is a PTA) gets mad. According to my physical therapy plan, I am not supposed to walk without crutches until this Thursday. It is my intent to start riding a stationary bike tomorrow (if swelling stays down). I want to get back to normal ASAP.
If you are interested, send me a PM with your email address. I will email a copy of the physical therapy exercises that you will perform after your surgery. If you start them prior to your surgery, it will aid in your recovery.

Tore my MCL doing karate. Been a week now and the swelling has gone down but I can't walk on it still, or lift my foot off the ground without grabbing it with my arm.
Headed to an orthopedic specialist this afternoon to talk over options. Best case is a partial tear and I just need physio and rest, 2 months. Worst case is a complete tear and I have to get surgery, which puts recovery out to 4 months.
Currently can't even drive a car, so I'm getting a bad case of cabin fever right now. Haven't left the house since getting back from the ER last week.
The Wee is in my garage on the battery tender, and even under best case I won't be able until November.
Sorry to hear about your injury. I just had my ACL done a few weeks ago.
Make sure you get a Game Ready ice machine for post operation. They ease the pain and reduce swelling.
Get well soon!

With so much at stake my conscience won't let me make a symbolic vote. If Trump won & Johnson came in at 20% (fantastic by current forecasts) the economy would be battered, the constitution would go out the window, & the common people would be screwed. Good luck to the libertarians in the future & shame on the republicans.
Shame on both major parties. Americans are dying to protect people of other nations (that may or may not appreciate our sacrifices). We are being enslaved with debt by both major parties. Choosing between the Republicans and the Democratic Socialists is a lose/lose proposition. I vote on principal, not to be symbolic. Let Johnson debate the two clowns, and we can see what happens.

The closest opportunity to live that lifestyle is Cuba. You can drive some of the finest automobiles available from the 1950s.

I thought conscription hasn't been used since Vietnam, but I may be mistaken. The rich pay the vast majority of taxes, but it will never be enough for the government.
