Going to agree with everyone on not getting into a turbo car in decent shape given your budget. I doubt you'd find an STi that runs for $7k let alone be reliable. I haven't seen a nice SRT4 or Cobalt SS since they were new, I wouldn't buy one regardless, just about any of them will be beat to shit. Given the cars you've had just about anything will be more fun to drive. Getting a loan on something in you parameters is going to be an issue IMHO. Things that cheap are going to be older higher mileage vehicles and if you get a loan for one you'll spend a lot in interest. You may be surprised if you calculate out costs that buying something newer in the low teens won't actually cost as much as you might think. Lots of variables to consider, just get used turbo cars out of your head.

Hi AJ, what are you into now? Last time I saw you you had a bagged S10.
-
What's wrong with the engine in the car? Those are usually worth fixing unless it broke something in the bottom.
-
I know there are a few different antenna connectors out there, but someone usually makes an adaptor. Not sure what it would be on an Audi. Some of the universal under the dash one's work pretty well.

Ok but you have to appreciate that some drama is needed for CR to have a pulse. Otherwise I agree with your point.

Geeto only bothers me because he doesn't want assimilate into the site, he wants to come in and expect people to just see his point of view. Comes off very vein. Many have taken this approach and some of them take the time to "get it" or they just don't last. What he does currently is annoy more of us instead of doing anything constructive. Overall I think he'll either assimilate or leave all on his own.

Well my goal of sparking up some conversation was a success, and I think CR is alive and well with great core members. I really like most of what I'm reading in here, just about everybody is happy to have this place to just talk about whatever. I think Anthony has done a great job with this site, keeping the core community from being influenced by any outside agendas. The points made of Facebook slowing it down are true, but I don't think it will be able to kill CR. I feel better about the future of my favorite forum having made this thread and reading the responses. Not everyone is going to be happy, but it seems most members are.

I got my first ATV when I was 4 years old, got my first kart when I was 8. Won 2 local championships when I was 13-14. I struggle with the fact that the best racing I did was 20 years ago. I got back into ATVs when I was 19, and after getting hurt I moved on. My back is just too torn up to mess around with that stuff anymore. I bought my Camaro when I was 23 (actually my wife bought it for me), I did some drag racing stuff, and had lots of fun on the street. The recent years of trying to stick to legal activities I tried Miatas, they make a good autocross car but notmuch else so I bought the Vette. I ddon't know what I want to do now. I still want to street race but I also want to stay married. Autocross is okay, but I've lost a lot of desire to go do that. Working on cars everyday is taking it's toll. I have always and will always love cars, speed, and racing, I just think right now I'm looking for the next big thing for me.

I think seeing some of these postings I feel better about the future of CR, I am plesently surprised that this thread has gotten positive response. I'm sure I speak for everybody that ideas and desire to keep CR progressing into the future is a great thing. Keep it going.

Let me elaborate a little, the car's computer has to know how much air is in the engine. It can do this a number of ways, MAF, SD, or Alpha-N to name a few. Many manufacturers use a combination of them in the way GM actually uses MAF and SD on it's cars together to kind of double check itself. This process not only gives you the ability to tune in just SD or just MAF, it makes it a more involved process then most people realize to make a modified car operate the way GM designed using the MAF with SD as a back up. A lot of tuners see the benefits of the way GM originally designed it and tune it that way whenever possible. That doesn't mean that everything can be tuned that way, but most can. Cars that have a blower added is a good example of just going SD being much easier to tune. Ultimately if the engine has a good calculation of the air inside it, then it can properly fuel it. If MAF and SD are each tuned properly they each will do that well. It's taking the time to properly get SD to modify it's calculations for the dynamic altitude that makes the MAF better in most cases, because it measures the air as it enters, SD calculates various sensors and then modifies those values based on other variables. SD can be done, but not in a couple hours on the dyno in one day. It may only be a few percent off when you run it in sub zero temps versus the mid eighties you originally tuned it in but it won't be the same. Lots of things go into how far off, mostly engine combination, and how you adjust you modifiers. Bottom line is very few people will take the time to read books and learn everything that goes on, even certain tuners. In my opinion it's worth doing what you need to in order to keep the MAF. If tuned right it can be done very accurately relatively quickly and doesn't really need to be fucked with later.

The MAF in most cases is the better tune and is why GM uses them in the first place. SD can be almost as good to the point it is unnoticed by most people, and has its place for certain applications. MAF just does a better job of measuring the air entering the engine rather then calculating it like SD so it isn't effected byaaltitude, air temp, and the like nearly as much. SD takes much more time to be nearly as seemless and any changes to your car's volumetric efficiency will throw it off.

Okay Farkas I'll gladly talk racing, how would you like me to start? Go do some street races and talk about it, go do some autocrosses and talk about it? Some of that still happens but not much. So despite you coming off sarcastic I actually do agree that more talk of racing would be nice, and even though a lot of the guys have grown more responsible I know there are guys still out doing it. I however have been more disconnected from that lately, the few people I know could seek out to street race are now way out of my league. Unfortunately my life got in the way and I can't keep up, if there are guys like me somewhere I'd like to meet them as I've just simply lost touch.

Obviously if someone starts a thread in the wrong section we'll move it, doing it repeatedly just to be annoying is a matter for whoever catches you doing it.

I've been a mod for a few years and participated on this site for quite some time, although I'm not an OG more the second wave of active memeber. So anybody who's been on here has seen the changes over the years, street racing not being the primary topic anymore, and as Facebook's popularity grew a lot of typical discussions have moved there. However there is still a solid base on CR, so I'd love to see people participate in discussions more then they do. There are lots of smart people on this site and multiple opinions is something I miss. How can we stimulate some new members and reignite the old ones? And I know lots of my friends still get on CR and never post, so you are primarily my target with that question. On the flip side I realize there is plenty of dumb and useless crap on this site, but I personally find some of it entertaining. This is not the opinion of all the admins, but we have decided to relax on moderating the site. You guys have the ability to control what gets talked about again. The rules are simple, no racism, understand that it's very possible you may come face to face with another member so we don't want threats at all, but it needs to be fun again. Thoughts? Questions? Something? And all you chatbox junkies can have discussions in the rest of the forum too.

I don't think he's storing it. Or are you Joe?
-
Why you mad bro? If he wants to look stupid then let him, I don't feel it's our job to say otherwise anymore.

The same typical stuff that should be checked regularly anyway, which sounds like you've got a handle on. Knowing the age of your coolant and fluids is something to consider. I need to fix up the wife's car this year with that stuff.

I thought we were letting shit go, someone want to message me why we keep closing this?
-
Oh look a thread to make fun of ShowHBK. Guess what dude it is now played out when you make a thread.
-
I'm a raccoon being held hostage in a detached garage...any suggestions?
Cordell replied to Dr. Pomade's topic in Dumpster
I've killed a few, I give no fucks. -
I don't see why racoons would be viewed as anything but a pest, and they should be killed. If nothing as for population control, there is no shortage of the little bastards. Nobody says shit about killing mice or rats, it's just a big furry rat, kill it. No issue again for you or someone else, no spread of desease, none of that shit.

I live in the city too so rather then shoot them I bash their heads in with either a ball bat or 2x4.

Lots of good info in that video. The LS is strong, affordable, and flows a lot of air right out of the box, that makes any engine good. Most that is pretty well known in my opinion, and things like cylinder sleeve length just make sense. GM designed it for a certain stroke so the sleeves correspond to that stroke. Iron 6.0l blocks like the LQ9 have the shortest sleeves of any LS.

Unfortunatly CR is only able to have 1 track day a year right now. Until tracks make it more affordable it's not looking like we will be able to have very many. Hopefully things will work out in the spring.
