How enforced is lane splitting through heavy traffic here?

If a cop sees you and can get to you, you are probably getting a ticket, but I do it whenever needed and have never had an issue with the law.

However, I will warn you, it's not the police I'd be worried about.  People get really upset when they see a bike taking advantage of this and they will cut you off purposefully and try to block you from getting by, for no reason other than the fact they can't do it and it pisses them off.... so if you do plan to lane split, I'd recommend being on incredibly high alert and do so at only a slightly higher speed than traffic is moving to give you plenty of time to react to those who can't understand what you are doing has no affect to them whatsoever.

  2. Well another update - Looks like I may have to go the legal route.   I've replied to the email letting them know I wasn't racing that I was participating in an instructional motorcycle class lead by instructors on a closed course.  We shall see how this goes from here.

  3. Awesome - Welcome to the forum.  I loved my 2005 ZX10R.    I'm a little north of you and the riding season is growing nearer to the end so may be a bit difficult, but keep an eye out on the Rides & Events section for people posting rides.  Good way to meet people.  In the Spring, I host an event called the "Epic Ride".  It's a great way to get to meet a lot of the riders from here.

Look forward to meeting you sometime.

I knew of him, but not closely. He had been a part of the FJR community for a long time.

Do you know what/how it happened?   No blame needs to be placed anywhere, just curious of the circumstances as an educational thing.

Doc, Your commitment to early apex path of travel on some of the blind corners while leading out front scares the poo out of me.:o

You do look good :bicycle:and that really is all that matters. I am real good at screwing up corners but that's why we practice, right?:D

    Let's go ride some more!!

    Great Video, Derek

Just like any good movie, it's only as good as the actor and Nivin was the lead actor on this one.  He made the video look good!

  6. So my plan is to leave Saturday morning from Toledo and arrive at Iron Pony.  Do the Iron Pony/SubD Meetup thing to AimExpo.  Check out AimExpo and then after is completely open.  Not sure if I plan to stay the night and go back on Sunday or ride back Saturday.  Either way I'll be coming down from Toledo with about 7 others so not sure what our afterward plan is.  I'll let you know more as I know more

and finally thx for following me around and getting these pics @DerekClouser very rarely I get to be on the film. Learning points are immense watching yourself be a asshat rider :) I hope you guys had fun. I was still not 100% back yet after my gravel mishap, u must have noticed my pattern of excessive slow down and being scared of all suspicious stuff on road weather it's leaves or even shadow hehehe still can't fully commit to a corner without being paranoid and holding myself back. Was trying to fight my own demons and you prolly noticed me being fidgety and anxious and pumped up all at the same time  hehehe,

It's the streets.  We ALWAYS need to accept the fact that they are unpredictable.  If anyone gets upset because you aren't going full blast into the unknown, then you shouldn't be riding with them.  Everyone I ride with accepts the fact that if you don't feel comfortable, slow down.

A recent quote that I heard from pro racer Kyle Wyman has kind of stuck with me recently.  "Don't accelerate into what you can't see."

Great street advice.  If you aren't sure what's ahead or around the corner, taking it at a reasonable and safe speed seems to be the only reasonable answer.

Dayum, clips look very nice. Can't wait for the video. Once again thx for chasing me around derek. We need to do this again :) I will follow you next time.

Honestly, I had an incredible blast chasing you around trying to turn 2 bikes into 1.  Probably some of the most fun I've had on the street recently. Even though we weren't trying to go mach retard (until 78 into Caldwell),  I had a great time working on trailing you and learning your tendencies to get even closer, while trying to make sure I maintained being safe.  Really made me focus on what was going on.  I think it was fantastic practice for the track and learning to hold lines and pass 'slower' riders.   Even though it's not legal, I think removing my mirrors has helped greatly too.  I've always been a chronic mirror checker and not having mirrors let me focus more on what was in front of me.

I think @durk had a blast watching me mimic your every move.  He seemed about as excited as I was at the end of 536.

I escorted Doc to Hocking Hills after skipping the meal in Caldwell. I Hope he made it to his destination, He seem tired. I went to dinner later and could have sworn I saw Doc with a pack of Harley Pirates at a local watering hole. He had a Vest on with "Property of Neil Ubich" and his new biker name on the front was "Love Doctor" I hope he comes back to us soon. I would hate to see him operating a Aid Station at Sturgis next year. :dunno:

Ahhhh... so that's what he meant when he said 'before he gives up 2 wheels'.

Always a good feeling when you come over a hill and power into a wheelie.  Don't stop Nivin! haha

And lastly, I'm not sure why I selected this one in particular, but it just represents us as motorcyclists and riding twisties.  The full concentration, getting to push the limits, the adrenaline rush and just the outlook of knowing the road ahead that gets us excited.

Great day. Thanks for putting up with me Durk&TreeFime. I had so much fun. it was nice to meet so many riders. Also thanks to Derek for the highway upper body workout on 78. You are my personal highway strength trainer. Doc, I enjoyed the ride home to the Hock. Got home splashed water on my face and drove the wife to Lancaster for dinner in the car like a madman. my sense of speed was still on 78.:D

I have no idea what you are talking about.  No-one on OR goes triple digits.

Also wireless charging is much older, I remember hacking my Samsung Galaxy from Verizon, to add wireless charging.

I really hope more oem pickup on the wireless charging. This is way under rated

Car manufacturers are starting to implement it so hopefully in the near future, you'll get into your car and you can set your phone on your center console and it'll auto connect to bluetooth and wireless charging.  So convenient.

How do you import a custom route into a navigation program on an iPhone?

Use an app like scenic.  You can paste the short google maps link and will import the custom navigation.

Oh... you can't... Scenic is only for iPhones.
