  1. Have you heard the good news about Jesus? He snuck out the back during the INS raid on Chipotle!
  2. The historicity of Jesus has pretty much always been accepted as fact among mainstream scholars. Jesus is probably the most heavily documented historical figure from that era in the primary sources (though those sources are subject to a survivorship bias in that the Church has the incentive and longevity to preserve them.) Plenty of events in the new testament are less than fully supported, but two that are heavily documented are Jesus' baptism by John the Baptist and crucifixion under Pilate.
  3. ^Im not familiar with other type of clutch systems, but if youre hung up on my "always" statement let me rephrase to "occasionally, when my wife isnt in the car, and I want to pretend Im Ayton Senna."
  4. After reading Tpoppa's article yesterday I started doing this and the sliding made all the difference. Seems obvious in hindsight. Why do it on the street? I dunno, I always heel-toed in my car when I owned a manual so it just feels night.
  5. Ive been riding for a couple of months at this point and feel pretty good about most of the fundamentals. But there is one skill that just isnt gelling: Breaking while simultaneously downshifting and blipping the throttle. Most of the time Im just not smooth and the suspension ends up bouncing rather than achieving a smooth deceleration. A video of some pros going through this sequence in slow motion would be a big help, to get a feel for a good rhythm. any youtube links? In lieu of that, any tips to get this dialed in?
  6. What is yalls opinion on this as a good upgrade for me after a month on a 250cc?
  7. Direct link to the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ukdkgLYYbw#t=376
  8. Not the best ambassadors for our hobby here: http://m.nydailynews.com/1.1471585 It's hard to fault the driver for anything shown on the video here, other than not packing a smith and wesson in his glove box.
  9. You will need to seek out info on a state by state basis. Packing.org was the best source when I was investing a similar question a few years ago. Guns in Federal are governed by the regulations of the state in which that park is located. This is new as of 2010. Previously restrictions in federal parks were much more onerous.
  10. A myth I am seeing frequently, and never corrected: "Standing on the pegs will weight them and lower the center of gravity on your bike." I think this was even somewhere in Keith Code's book. Just no. Physics 101 fail.
  11. If yall are not using Tapatalk to read forums, youre doing it wrong.
  12. Dub, ill take the boots and gloves. Im local to cbus, just let me know the details for pickup.
  13. The author has also written a damn good instructional book called Sport Riding Technique. I found a pdf copy on the web by googling, but Im not sure whether that was meant to be in the public domain or not...
  14. The FNAR is hands-down the best semi auto rifle Ive ever used. It's going to be the next gun in my safe. I love the simplicity and history of the M1a, but its basically a 70 year old design at the point. Related, if anyone in Cbus is interested in a springfield M1A scout, about 10 mags, and about 3000 rounds of 308 at a highly inflated price, send me a PM.
  15. Some of you might be surprised at what the median Muslim actually believes. There have been many worldwide opinion polls... seek them out. The central tenets of Islam are fairly violent and misanthropic, and most followers in the 3rd world are true believers. It's a major intellectual failing of Western liberals to not realize: a) the emotional power of religious experience among true believers (of any faith.) It's just not something that a secular person can easily empathize with, short of certain kinds of drug-experiences. b) the inherently violent nature of Mainstream muslim doctrine, as it is dispensed daily in tens of thousands of mosques world wide. Instead the reaction is to draw equivalence to Christianity by quoting passages from Leviticus and invoking the Crusades. Ive personally never heard of a Christian sermon based around the wacky sections of the old testiment... and one of the parties in the Crusades subsequently experienced a small event relevant to our lives callef the Enlightenment. Islam is retrograde belief system responsible for a lot of misery among the poor souls unlucky enough to be born where it's the law of the land. Resist whatever kind of white guilt or team-sport-politics are driving you to defend it. Take a hard look at the current, mainstream beliefs and practices, and outcomes in the countries run under this system.
  16. It's been pointed out in this thread, but those people are paying a plethora of taxes! The disconnect between the general public's perceptions and the actual number of tax "loopholes" is quite large, based on what I see. Uncle Sam finds a way to get his share. The one notable example of something resembling a loophole is hedge fund partners treating carried interest as a capital gain rather than ordinary income. But even this case is more complicated when one looks at the original intent of the tax code in not advantaging capital equity over sweat-equity in the case of partnerships.
  17. Incorporating basically subjects business owners to double taxation-- through the 35% corporate income tax (which is the highest in the developed world) and an additional tax on capital gains and dividends. There are good legal reasons to incorporate, but the idea that there exists some huge and unfair tax exploit is false. And regarding interest income... I can tell you something about that over the last five year. The nominal rate on the 10 year t bill has been under 2%, and inflation has been around the same level, so were left with a real return around 0% and at some points negative. Before tax. Interest is taxed at the nominal rather than real rate of return, so the real effective tax rate on risk free investments ends up being something like 100% in recent times. Things are rarely as simple as the typical populist talking points.
  18. Great bikes, great ride. About how many mph over the indicated are you guys taking those turns?
  19. Preach it. From a guy whos had to take evasive maneuvers after being merged into twice in 3 weeks of riding.
  20. Ive had good experiences with their service and parts departments as well. Sales on the other hand, well, they seemed to be under the delusion the wrx's on their lot were some kind of supercar. No test drives on these tarted up econoboxes without a written commitment to buy, really?
