  1. Early Sunday anyone, somewhere SE of Columbus?
  2. I've yet to ever hear of a successful intervention among my extended circle of friends over the years. People that kick an actual dangerous habit (read: not just a party phase their girlfriend is worried about) seem to have to hit rock bottom on their own, and ideally find jesus while they're down there at the nadir. That's really the only combo I've seen work. Good luck with whatever you're dealing with.
  3. Gut-wrenching stuff. The death-count at this race kind of blows my mind. On a per-participant basis, the TT is probably about as dangerous as climbing a lot of those 8,000m mountain peaks. It's a wonder that a place with such a nanny-state mentality as the UK allows it to continue.
  4. Seems like the more direct cause of the child's suffering is due to a decision the police made. Specifically, a decision to throw a flash grenade at a baby in a crib.
  5. Is there any coverage on US tv? Isle of Man TT is some real-man shit.
  6. Don't need the car, but I was thinking about selling my Honda cbr250. It's a 2011 with appx 10,500 miles. Brand new tires. I also have an OEM chain and sprocket not yet installed. Let me know if you're near columbus and have interest in a cash deal. I never planned to sell it, but new home doesn't have garage space for multiple bikes.
  7. Greenland being that high up on the list is kind of a shock. I wonder if their data point was just captured in a high variance year. Notice the racial make - up of the rest of the list. That's the bigger story than any gun control. I suspect if you took the murder rate of US blacks it would fall in the range of any of those 3rd world shit holes. These are the kind of observations that don't get me invited back to a lot of cocktail parties...
  8. This. People respond to incentives. Send a few soccer moms to federal-pound-me-in-the-ass prison for a year after they cause collisions, and I think we might start seeing less dangerous idiocy on the road. Kill someone due to willful negligence? Your ass should be locked away for years while every asset to your name is liquidated and given to the next of kin.
  9. Cleveland vs Columbus. The Special Olympics of internet city v city arguments, basically.
  10. Bummed I could not make the reschedule, but sincerely appreciate the timely PM Friday Derek.
  11. Mad enough to pose his wife in a selfie and start a hashtag on the twitter website?
  12. Not exactly the same, but I could get behind a two - stroke scented candle. http://www.flyingtigermoto.com/products/two-stroke-smoke-candle
  13. Seems like there's a decent probability of a front tracking North and raining all morning around Hocking. I think I'm out unless the picture changes by 8:00. 8-/
  14. http://www.ohioriders.net/index.php?/topic/104592-Ohio-CSBA-ride-May-10th I was riding the roads in that area this morning and they were generally in very good shape. FYI the stretch of 374 just off of 33 seemed to have a lot of gravel and it was hard to see. I actually lost the front end at one point and somehow saved it.
  15. Run it up the chain at ODNR. In my experience they are very image focused and pay attention to user feedback. If enough complaints get to this guy's boss' boss' boss, his professional life will become very unpleasant and might yield a behavior modification.
  16. If you have any option at all, stay at the Four Seasons. It's one of the most spectacular hotels in the world. Whoever developed/restored that place must have been gone in for some kind of tax write-off. Even though rooms are absurdly expensive, I just done see how there would be any ROI after the care that went into that restoration. It's the quintessential European city for walking around and gawking at 1000 years of architecture. The history and art museums were good, but next time I am there I will skip and just enjoy the ambiance. Get a transit pass if you are traveling on your own dime. Cabs rip you off. One off the beaten path place I enjoyed was a park that housed all the old communist statues and monuments after residents dragged them off. There was something revealing and correct about seeing all the grandiose imagery gathered together, reduced to comedy and obviously hollow.
  17. Sometime before I die I would love to see a cop pull someone over for doing something actually unsafe on the road. Texting, tailgating, speeding in <45mph zones, dallying in the left lane, passing in the right lanes at a high rate of speed, not maintain line markers in a curve. Basically anything other than plain vanilla speeding and trivial infractions to sniff out drunk drivers.
  18. Any interest in parting out the race bodywork?
  19. Crazy. Just fuggin whiped that guy out. Do you know if he was injured?
  20. Right. There just isn't any central business or nightlife district in columbus holding the place together. Our downtown is government and Nationwide, and lunch only eateries to support those workers. There is a bit of nightlife in the arena/park street/short north corridor, but most of the metro area is going out around whatever burb they life closest to. The draw of Cbus is basically the sprawl -- lots of available land on which to build affordable corporate campuses and homes. Economically prosperous and some nice areas to raise kids, but it's all a bit anathema to my idea of a "city."
  21. Do you allow jews on this ride?
  22. Damn these people for lending credibility to the crazy shit coming out of my farther in law's mouth.
  23. Though I'm living in Columbus at the moment, I'm siding with Bad here. Cleveland and Cincinnati are the only real cities in Ohio. Columbus is a nice enough place to raise a family, but it's basically a cow - town that would fall apart without the tax dollars flowing in from the rest of the state to support our giant state government apparatus and OSU.
