  4. I don't know what they are doing wrong but in the AF E1-4 is automatic. Some branches you can put the rank on sooner but in the AF, you will get E2 at 10-months, E3 around 16 and E4 at 36. Unless you are screwing up you are promoted automatically by the time requirment. The thing that sucks in the AF is you can't get them any sooner. You can make BTZ and have E4 at 30-months but any rank after that you have to test for. You won't get field promoted like you can in other branches. All branches have there good/bad but like most have already stated, "Pick a branch based off of the JOB you want!" There are some cool jobs but sometimes things don't work out and you can't retire in the military. Because of that, I always recommend getting into something that is marketable on the civilian side. Infantry is cool but you won't get many jobs with "Can kill people" on your resume...
  5. Damn....I was really looking forward to the GT2... Congrat's with the new toy though...
  6. Scooter, An overseas location is completely different than anywhere else in the AF. I've still never heard of a maid service in the dorms unless you are TDY in the VOQ/VEQ. Plus, you get a lot more money and better housing overseas BUT it isn't like that ANYWHERE else... As far as deployments, even that wouldn't be bad. We are getting the 15-months home 6-12-months gone bit now. I'm sick of it. Lots of changes that I didn't mind when I was single. Now that I have a family it gets old quick since I'm not as flexible when it's more than myself to worry about. I can't just pack up my shit in storage last minute and pocket the BAH while I'm away.
  7. The difference is the AF normally takes care of there stuff better and keeps it for a long period of time. Not to mention the AF takes money from there budget to keep the living standards high. ARMY spends there money on new tanks and equipement long before they spend it on there housing. Nothing wrong with that but not how I want to live. If your base house isn't any nicer than your deployed trailer, why even go home in there eyes. Where are these hotel rooms with maid service? I've never been on a deployment like that. It's been a tent everytime and MRE's 25% of the time. I've deployed with US Army, Navy, Marines; Canada, French, Korean, Australian, etc...etc... and a human is a human. Some just more hard headed than the others... I've only been to two horrible mess halls in my entire 8 1/2 years Active Duty. Columbus AFB, MS and a German Army Base in Germany. I've been to probably 60 chow halls. I'd say basic training and Keesler AFB MS were the best. Nothing wrong with deployed food but the same 7-day rotation GETS OLD QUICK when you are there for 1-month let alone 6, 12, 15+....
  8. Who is doing 4-month rotations? We are doing 6-mo or 1-yr tours last time I checked but it depends on your career field and mission. You are talking about a small majority of the AF not everyone is doing 4-month tours... Not to mention some jobs will never require you to pick up a gun. Score higher on your ASVAB and you won't have to either... j/k
  9. Now that I have reread your post, what branch are you going in and what's your job? Don't get me wrong, the military is great for a lot of people and one of the best things I ever did so don't take what I posted the wrong way. I feel it's just time for me to move on. Make sure you sign up for the GI Bill and get into TSP as soon as possible. Don't forget USAA and a few others. Lots of great things from the military so don't let this thread change your thoughts. P.S....be ready to be seen as one of the "old guys" in basic training...
  10. You are to young to know better at this point in your life. There are things you will do down the road with some rank that you can/will NEVER be repaid for. You sacrifice a lot and pay is really NOTHING when you look back at it. I make 4 x what you make and my reenlistment bonus is $90k right and I still wouldn't reenlist... I am glad I joined the Air Force but it's time for me to move on to something else. For those that stay in and retire, I'm glad you can take the BS. There are so many changes going on right now, I won't put my family through it any longer than I have to (7-months left). There is a lot more to it than that but I don't have the time tonight to type a book...
  11. Why would he even work himself up or stress over a broken car...? He has the money and will race again when the time is right. To bad for both that it didn't go down. I wanted to see the race as much as everyone else on here but it just wasn't in the cards in the timeframe. Bid deal...move on! This is a fun hobby and nothing more, don't get worked up over it guys...
  12. This video is from a couple years ago. That's a GSXR1k flat out that he passes doing a wheelie.
  13. That's fine if you work close to home and have time to get it apart during the week. Considering Joe is probably out of town more than you are probably at home for his work....sometimes life doesn't allow your so-called perfect world and overnight delivery. I like how people are hating on the guy because of what someone else did to his car.... :jerkit:
  14. It's going to take an old school key maker/cutter. Otherwise you have to use the key vin and order the keys from a dealer which gets them directly from the manufactor. It can take a week or two depending on the manufactor and dealer but they normally don't cut keys. The manuf. uses the Key vin to look up the lock and makes them at the factory.... Good luck finding one though...
  15. Yep...header bolts is my guess...
  16. I didn't think he'd see it in another section...my bad....
  17. Nice... The Orange is tits but whatever you decide. I would get something rare since Black/White/Red/etc...seem to be pretty common. Since they aren't bringing many into the states the first year you could get something really unique... Orange does look great when Blacked out... http://www.porsche.com/filestore.aspx/normal.jpg?pool=germany&type=galleryimage&id=997gt3rs-experience-08&lang=none&filetype=normal Can't wait to see it but I probably won't be in Ohio when you get it done. I'm sure you'll probably take it down to Texas for TX2K8/9 or something and I'll see it then....
  18. Just wondering what color combo you got and if you have any info on the car arriving....? I just saw these the other day... http://www.autospies.com//images/users/Agent001/GT2.pdf http://www.porsche.com/latin-america-en/thenew911gt2/ 530hp, 3175lbs, and 204mph Top Speed... Can't wait to see what you do with yours....
  19. They are only about 6-months behind on this info... P.S...the Z06 will stay around..
  20. Only problem is a CC transaction costs them pennys NOT dollars like they are charging. So they are profitting on a technicallity. Instead they could just charge you what it costs them to run the card but them marking it up a couple 1,000% is BULL SHIT!
  21. It's a Katana, why not just cover it in FUR...
  22. I forgot to add that BUELL should be releasing the next Gen bike in August with a Liquid-Cooled, DOHC Rotax motor. Sounds like the Harley power plant won't be the big dog for them anymore.
