If they failed enough to get that much oil out, something must have impacted/damaged them. They dont see much pressure, unlike "any other fork" seal. On the other hand, there isnt supposed to be much oil in there in the first place!
They're not seals in the traditional sense. Theres just a little oil in there for slide lubrication. Most people ignore the small telelever seeps...wont hurt a thing.
Just ran into the guy who bought my last GS1200 (09). Took it to California and back. No problems. Must have at least 70k on it now, with no service beyond maintenance items. Not too bad.
Tail of the dragon and the Snake are two different roads. The snake adds lots of elevation changes compared to the dragon! Its a wicked little stretch. I have yet to do the "Rattler", also in the general area.
Right...my buddy has an ancient 1100 shadow. Had the suspenders re-done with hi end bits, raised it a bit. Rides it HARD! We call it the "Reclining Rocket".
