To me the safety issue is a wash. Racing at the track is dangerous. Racing on the street is dangerous. Racing is dangerous. Racing at the track offers me zero in the way of competition but provides me a little slip of paper for all of my time and money. It tells me I suck for the money and time invested or maybe some of it was worth it. Either way, it doesnt make me feel any better about getting half-tracked by the 8-second Nova I was "Racing" or finishing before the stock '89 Tempo even reached the 60-ft mark. I dunno, call me crazy. I haven't "Got it" in all the years I have been into cars and doubt I ever will. Drag racing at the track is like waiting in line 3 hours for that Power Tower at Cedar Point. It drops straight down. It feels cool for maybe a second or two. Its over. I walk away in complete and total disbelief that I just wasted 3 hours of my life for that lol. Now if every time I went out it was like a private day where you could easily get 10-15 passes in and feel like you actually learned something (Working on launches and shift points and tunes etc etc) that would be a different story. Jeff

On the flip-side, by the time the prospective person decided they needed to change lanes and went to touch the turn-signal lever the Z06 would already be 1/8 mile ahead Jeff

Not to speak for anyone else, but for me, going to the track makes me want to race on the street 100x more. I went to trails opening day mostly because the weather was great and it was down-right painful watching the same primered "Muscle" cars run over and over (While watching them clean the track every 5th pairing due to one of them breaking) while the "Street" cars sat in line. I was there 3-4 hours and the majority of the street cars hadnt even made a 2nd pass. No thanks. Street racing is like anything else. If you are smart about where, when, and how you race it is just as safe (And arguably safer) than racing on the track. I manage to break a speed limit every single day (Not anything extreme -- maybe 5-10mph over) and I am sure if I really kept track I break a few random piss-ant laws daily so the "Legality" issue isnt a big one for me. The penalty for "Street racing" is obviously a bit more severe but I am curious if anyone has ever been ticketed for it (Not speeding, actually street racing) during/after a roll race. No one that I have ever heard of and that is going back to 1999-2000 (Damn I am old ) There is just no comparison (For me anyway) to doing legal track passes against whatever happens to be sitting beside you Vs actually racing somebdy you feel would be a good race (Or somebody you cant stand or a good friend or a Ford since you drive a GM etc etc) and having it be more of a competitive thing in a street race. Yes, I am so good at photoshop that I just copy/pasted two random EVOs onto boring backgrounds and added IPS logos to them because I had a spare 72 hours on my hands and wanted to see if anyone would catch it or not... You got me!! The "Fake" black EVO is a simple bolt-on car that is on the street almost every single day. Mike's "Fake" blue car has about 200 or so miles on his break-in and then we will get it dialed back in on the dyno. It will be at a track day/event if/when he feels like it. Jeff

Here is a link to a few of them: http://www.columbusracing.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49622 (Eric's is the black one) and I can post up a few more tomorrow. Very very clean car and the leather Recaro's are HAWT. Jeff

I dont -- but two of my three brothers do Jeff

They were both cleaned up last weekend (Went out to Trails so Mike could put a few more break-in miles on his) so we snapped a few pics on the way back: http://ipsmotorsports.net/pictures/Mike+EricEVOpics0006.JPG http://ipsmotorsports.net/pictures/Mike+EricEVOpics0007.JPG http://ipsmotorsports.net/pictures/Mike+EricEVOpics0019.JPG http://ipsmotorsports.net/pictures/Mike+EricEVOpics0003.JPG http://ipsmotorsports.net/pictures/Mike+EricEVOpics0020.JPG http://ipsmotorsports.net/pictures/Mike+EricEVOpics0023.JPG http://ipsmotorsports.net/pictures/Mike+EricEVOpics0004.JPG

If you are referring to how the graph kind of jumps up that is due to the Progressive Nitrous Controller stepping in initially to limit the amount of spray. Jeff

Testing of Dodge Tuning Software in progress.

I know Eric has said that HP has been working on something for the Chrysler cars for awhile now. I believe he said they currrently have it available but still dont have the capability to datalog yet. Jeff -
Also, I cant thank guys like Sam and Linn and Tilley and Mark & Jason and John G. and Anthoy (Green) and Anthony & Garrett and Buzz and many others for really helping us continue to grow. When you survive almost exclusively on good "Word of Mouth" guys like these are invaluable to a small shop like ours. I can't say "Thank You" enough times. Until our corny radio adds start playing soon (Our first "Formal" advertising) these guys are the reason we are still around and doing very well Jeff

To be honest, everything about the LSx cars is 100x easier than working on a TT V6 car (Insert 300ZX / 3000GT / S4 here) lol. I like the cars more and more every day and am seriously considering getting something -- prolly a REALLY modded C5 Z06 or a C6 or CTS-V or something. Great engines, great platforms, and they just work. Making power with them is easy and we have used enough parts combinations that it isnt hard to nail down what parts you need to make "XYZ" horsepower. Id like to get a few more big blower set-ups in (Since we do have the Procharger hook-up) since we have done / are doing many big nitrous and turbo set-ups. We continue to add new LSx parts vendors almost every single day so there is very little any more we cant get for the cars and be competitive on. Brandon has learned a ton about the LSx cars since he got here so he is able to put quotes / set-ups together easily and Eric is as good as it gets with HP Tuners. Mike and Peanut are great techs and Tank is a shop Ninja that can design/fab/weld/problem-solve with anybody. To be honest we are just blessed with a shop full of very talented guys right now Jeff

I would guess around 20-30rwhp. Jeff
-
Yes, it is one more component that could potentially fail. Thus far on F-bods and C5s it has worked great but like any electronic device, there is never a 0% chance of failure, just a .00000001 % Jeff
-
He still would be -- the "Box" just enables you to run your normal N/A timing off spray so you dont lose the 20 to 50rwhp (Depending on application) -- which for most is the case 90% of the time. With it you get the best of both worlds -- NA timing off spray and instantly able/ready to spray with the necessary timing pulled all at the same time Jeff
-
Had they not known each other well prior I would agree 100%. Watching a thread and shooting PMs off to vette owners or whatever is pretty lame (And it has been done to us on here by both "Mechanics" and shops alike) and that is not what Brandon was doing at all. I dont think too many shops are going to try to "Fight" to get under free labor lol. Jeff

Erik, I will give you a call today on the Hinson parts so we can get the ball rolling on those and some progress on some of the used pieces we talked about as well. Thanks for the post and I cant wait to get her in to get started. Going to be a fun fun car and will be reliable and get good gas mileage and look great and ... I need one of those Jeff
-
You should try it once just for the hell of it at like 10psi. I wonder if the tires would ever stop spinning around the entire course lol. That would be a very cool video Jeff
-
I dont think that has anything to do with Viper being discontinued or not. Gas prices and Chryslers financial standing maybe, but not demand. If that were the case other companies wouldnt be continuing to develop high-end sports / super-cars like the GTR, the ZR1, and upcoming lexus "Supercar". I read somewhere that Chrysler is axing 15 models and Im pretty sure the other 14 arent exactly of the "Performance" variety. The Viper just happens to be a casualty of a company not doing so well right now IMO. Jeff

Anyone know of a local dsm parts place, hookup would be nice?
Turbotrio replied to Bam's topic in Passing Lane
HUH? To be more exact, what I told you was we dont ever "Stock" used parts. We acquire them now and then based off what we work on and what the customers dont want back. Whatever is left behind we essentially give away but will sell for a few bucks if the part(s) are worth anything at all (IE: We sold 4 or 5 300ZX trannys for pizza / $50 / Whatever). What I told you was we havent seen a 1G DSM in here in quite awhile so there are no used ECUs laying around from someone upgrading to an AEM/standalone. However, I told you we do see quite a few more EVOs and have had EVO ecu's here but just didnt yesterday when you called. I never told you to go buy an EVO or anything remotely close to it... Jeff Cliffs: Yes, we have used parts here that we are willing to sell from time-to-time, but we are not a salvage yard and dont inventory used parts. If you are looking for something new (OEM or aftermarket) than I can help you out all day long. -
That was after we fixed it -- my breakdown was in chronological order. The car showed up here with nitrous already "Installed" it just didnt work. After the bigger headers and cut-out were installed we also installed 9/10ths of a NX kit so that the system worked and was on a 100 or 150-shot. Jeff
-
Just to provide some background info on John's T/A and how it has progressed thru the summer I guess it should be stated John never sprayed it (to my knowledge) as his existing nitrous set-up didnt work when it first came here. The car made mid-400rwhp thru the majority of the race season and then finally jumped up to high 400s/low 500s with a header and cut-out install we did toward the end of the season (Late September to be exact). The nitrous didnt get working and tuned until after that and even then it was "Only" a 150-shot. The direct-port set-up didnt happen until this past month so it has raced nobody as it sits (Making 800+rwhp). Just wanted to clear up any confusion about what power levels the car made thru the majority of the year and obviously that was about half of what the car is currently making now. I think (IIRC) Jason did race the car n/a when it was making essentially the same power as his Z06 so on paper it should have been a good race. I wasnt out so I have no comment one way or the other of the variables of the race(s) but just didnt want anyone thinking the car has been out making 800+hp all season Jeff
-
He did go out and race quite a bit this summer. IIRC he never really ran anyone on the much smaller shot the car had on it previously but I could be wrong. The fuel-side of the direct-port set-up we just did in the past week so its current set-up is all new. I think he will be back again next summer and we may have another car to go a bit further with soon I am pretty sure there will be another chance to see one of the cars in action come spring. If he ends up doing the "Other" car it should make this one look SLOW. Jeff
