CR life coaches enter, mechanical/maintenance/engineering enter
Trouble Maker replied to cstmg8's topic in Dumpster
A lot of places won't hire people as engineers without an engineering degree, or you have to really prove yourself in the industry. Or you can start as a tech and work your way up to an engineer if you are good at it. Even then, most places like to see people with technical (2 year) degrees for their techs. I've known some really good engineers without degrees, but the only way they will even get looked at is because of their reputation. It can be a difficult road to go down that career path. If he wants to get an engineering degree and has the want and opportunity (wife new job making bank) to do it, it will be a much easier prospect to get jobs. -

Along the lines of what gergwheel just said about pay. Honestly, you sound like 'the kids coming out of college' these days expecting 6 figures in exchange for a degree. Do your research about starting pays for fields you are interested in, it's not too hard to find the info. http://www.Salary.com is a pretty good source of info. Like Cordell said, do what makes you happy. It really sounds like with the wife's new position, you have the freedom to do that. I would just say make sure her new position/company is stable before taking some huge plunge based on it. Maybe I'm downplaying it, but it sounds like you are a good/smart building maintenance person. I'm not 100% sure what all that entails (I did have a close friend that did it for a few years so I have some good idea), but I doubt you are doing 'engineering' work. Talk to some engineers and see what they do. I'd be happy to grab a beer or coffee and chat, I imagine you'd veer more towards something like I'm doing since I get lots of hands on work (test engineer). Also along the lines of what gearwheel said, you could probably get a job somewhere as a test technician; setting up test & equipment, possibly running some test. It will likely pay shit compared to 'a 6 figure job'. If you are making anywhere near that and want to stay near there, you should be very, very happy that you make that much being a building maintenance 'engineer'. -
Recommend me a decent pair of noice canceling Headphones

I can't say they sound better than the Beats, because I've never tried the Beats. But pretty much everywhere says that Beats in general are way, way, overpriced; don't sound good and produce way too much bass. You can get some really good non-NC headphones for what they charge for the Beats. For over/on ear. If you sort by SQ Beats by Dre is the first (lowest SQ #) $150 headphone on this list, and Monster Beats by Dre is the first $200 headphone on this list. http://theheadphonelist.com/headphone-review-list/# For in ear http://theheadphonelist.com/headphone-list/# It's even worse, if you sort by average score, almost everything below the $150 Beats Tour's are less than half of the price of the Beats. There is more than 1 pair that score higher than the beats that only cost $1x It's a little harder to find good info on NC headphones like these list. -

This is my primary issue with Bose, they generally don't make products that are worth what they charge for them. They do seem to know how to make good products that are worth it, and this seems to be one of them. -

Thanks for all of the info. I got the Bose QC25s and I've only used them a bit but these are my feelings so far. They are very comfortable. They are... a little strange to use with NC on but no music. There is a constant kind of white noise and your ears can feel, a little strange, but really does work very, very well. I suppose with a little time one could get used to the white noise of NC on but no music. Sound quality of music with NC off is awful. My best guess is they didn't worry SQ a ton from the get go and make up for it by doing some signal processing to even out the uneven response curve. They sound good with NC on, and the 'strange' ear feeling and white noise completely goes away. With a music on a pretty low level and NC on, these things are pretty darn good. Overall I'm glad I ponied up the money for a really good set. I think I would have been disappointed with something half as good for half the price. -

Oh, you mean where it says noise isolating, not noise canceling? From what I've read, heard from others, Shure does make some nice stuff. -

Those are the second pair of headphones that someone has linked in this thread that are not noise canceling. -

I do like that site, but it can be hard to find info on. I got my IEMs based on info from there. This 1 guy had done reviews on 200+ IEMs and it was really easy to find some good sets in your price range, read the review and see if you would like it. It also seems like most of that community is not real high on NC headphones either, so there is less info on them. If I'm mistaken and you can easily find some good concise info on over the ear NC headphones, I'm all ears. :gabe: -

I honestly can't tell if those have active noise cancellation or not... I'm leaning towards no. Some of the only audio/consumer electronic companies I have a lower image of than Bose is Monster or Beats. At least Bose can seem to make some decent products. In addition to making subpar products, Monster is also an ethically horrible, monstrous company. They like to threaten to sue people all of the time often with little basis to essentially extort money out of smaller companies by settling out of court. They are the patent troll of the consumer electronics industry. http://www.bluejeanscable.com/legal/mcp/ It will be a cold day in hell before I would ever give them a dime of my money. -
I have absolutely no idea how a pair of headphones could possible be all 3. It's pretty simple, an over ear goes over your ear, an on ear sits on your ear, an in ear goes in your ear (like ear buds).

If you do repaint it, can you get a nice 'sun proof' cover to put on it while it sits at the airport lot? Also, make sure it gets cleaned & a simple 'detail' when it is driven? Like one of those quick detail shops, just so it gets something done to it to help the paint out.

I have a negative attitude about Bose, but pretty much everyone says the QC25s have no competitor that can come close to how well they work. I'd also like to not spend $300, but will if that's what it takes. High up on the list of 'wants'. They have to really good NC. Otherwise what's the point? They have to sound pretty good, be portable, and I'm not sold on proprietary batteries. I liked that the QC25s packed down pretty small for an over the ear and use a AAA battery. I don't travel extremely often but I really like listening to music to escaping the fact that I'm on a cattle car in the sky. Going to Japan in 3 weeks so I figure if I'm going to plunk down some coin on a nice set, it might as well be now! Any other suggestions?

It would be fantastic if they put a ramp anywhere reasonable between Polaris & 36/37. Between going up to Alum and some good friends that moved up to Cheshire Rd. I drive through the Polaris area much more often than I drive to it. I bet there are a lot of people in the same boat. Easier for the people that are currently driving through the Polaris area and less unnecessary traffic in the Polaris area. Also, I'm super excited about IKEA! http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/facebook/000/264/200/acb.jpg

Shitty, not funny, childish, sexist joke I think, but it doesn't make much sense so who knows. -
This should be mandatory in 'snowy' states with fines for drivers or companies that fail to use them after a snow. I'm sure it cuts into profits too much to take the time to scrape the tops off. :dumb: They probably only do this in places it snows so much that the snow load can easily be too high and could damage the trailer.

I can't understand semis. I understand this less than a person scraping their personal car off. First, it's vastly more dangerous when a 400 sq ft sheet of snow or ice flys off of the top of a semi than a relatively small amount of snow comes off of a car. Secondly, It's a business, pay someone to scrape the tops off or someone can make a 'machine' that they drive under as they are leaving the campus that does it. This ranks up there in annoyance and accountability with debris from construction/trash vehicles for me.

I'm guessing he doesn't have enough room for all of his cars (and stuff) in the garage. That's a personal choice on his part.
-
I need to get something big to brush the cars off. We only have a 1+ car garage and it's got remnants of a project I need to clean up. So both cars are living outside right now. It takes a while to clean both of them off with the smallish brush I had in the CRZ this morning. I probably took 30-45 minutes the first snow of the year shoveling my driveway and cleaning both cars off. Didn't have time to clean the driveway off this morning. I Hate having to clear it off after it's been driven on. It's such a PITA to clear off the driven on parts.

It seems like the big switch is happening. I hope the cable company execs, board members & stock holders aren't getting much sleep right now.

Maybe if I would have said Hulu like your post said, my bad joke would have made more sense. :lolguy:

You don't get Hulu via an antenna. I think you might be in over your head.
