  1. I've always been steered correctly, as well as lots of people, based on The Wire Cutters recommendations. Usually enough 'heavy' reading to get a good background on the subject too, if you are so inclined. http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-network-attached-storage/ They seem to like the WD My Cloud as a secondary suggestion due to ease of use. Sorry, I don't know as much to suggest which one is better for you; NAS or Server.
  2. It's such a joke that the EPA still test all cars on a 2WD dyno. :dumb:
  3. We are 'planning' a trip, probably next July. What was your favorite part or place? I really want to take 2 weeks so we have time to go to PEI when we do, or even all of the way to Newfoundland.
  4. Savings like at a bank? Probably yes, you are a moron... wait, you didn't ask that exact question. To me, it depends on what the purpose of that money is, the time table for probably using it and how risk averse you are. But with the interest rates on savings versus inflation every day that money sits there you are losing buying power. So the purpose better be very important, short term or you are very risk averse. I'm not risky with my money but we still have our rainy day and car fund in low risk mutual fund... which are still inherently higher risk than a savings account. It was going to sit for a few years so I'm not going to have it sit in a savings account losing money.
  5. We've really liked St.Louis. Last time we stayed on The Loop in the Moonrise hotel. The hotel has a really nice rooftop bar. Really cool area with a ton to do from very good food to a huge park near there. A very short short trip gets you to Forest Park, a 1400 acre park in the middle of the city with a zoo, museums and a science center. I can't emphasize how much fun we had around here and wish we had more time to explore the park. We will be going back and staying at the same place in the future. http://moonrisehotel.com/ http://www.forestparkforever.org/ I've only done Niagara once, it was cool to see but I liked Niagara on the Lake better. We rented a tandem bike and went to a ton of wineries, it was a lot of fun. Went to downtown Indy for a wedding last summer and it's now on our list for a long weekend. Really vibrant downtown. Staycations in downtown Columbus are fun too. We stayed at The Joeseph on our most recent one and it was really nice and in a great spot. http://m.starwoodhotels.com/lemeridien/property/overview/index.html?propertyID=3872 In Michigan we've done Bay City and St.Joseph's and liked both. I'd suggests St.Joseph's out of the two.
  6. :lolguy: Inb4 this guy gets another 'great deal' that's a giant pile that he loses money on.
  7. Do you two talk, not fight, at least not every time, about money? Have you two read up on or taken any personal finance classes? You can make a ton of money and still be in a bad financial spot if you are bad with it. Being financially comfortable is at least as much about how you handle your money as it is about how much you make.
  8. I am not an electrician or code guru. Contact your local electrical inspector(s). Most places they are superbly helpful. Does whatever you are doing have to meet code? Honestly it's low voltage (probably relatively low current and power too), so I personal wouldn't fret too much over it. Use common sense and in wall rated wires and you'll be just fine.

  10. po·ta·to pəˈtādō/ noun 1. a starchy plant tuber that is one of the most important food crops, cooked and eaten as a vegetable. "roasted potatoes" 2. the plant of the nightshade family that produces the potato tubers on underground runners. 3. people who think a new car is going to cost a significant amount less than the established competition. The company making this new car found some combination of parts for less than anyone else could and is going to sell the car at a loss just to benefit the customers. I think they have to, it only makes sense that they will put a hopped up version of the WRX engine in the STi... eventually.
  11. I think a lot of people thought it was going to start higher than that. It wouldn't have surprised me, but it would have killed sales.
  12. Almost 8k#s doesnt cut it? :lolguy: Like someone else said, basically an old full sized truck. I bet my dads late 90s F250 w/4.6L V8 is rated to tow much less than that. Hell, to get more tow rating than this in an F150 you have to get the V8 or 3.5 ecoboost. The base 3.5L n/a and 2.7 ecoboost are rated right around what's speculated for this truck & drivetrain +/-
  13. Oh, you meant I should compare new car prices to new car prices? Sorry, I meant a used one that had previously caught on fire.
  14. It's like Tac Pack... but for cosmetics products.
  15. Or, you know, their ego exceeded their talent and it was a well sorted 944 (turbo?) with a good driver. It's been known to happen on track at least a few times.
  16. Is this anything like Birchbox?
  17. Outside of 270, but if there is space where Doc rents that could be pretty awesome.
  18. So, like $15k once it's all said and done? If that actually holds true, that seems pretty cheap.
  19. Whatever you do, make sure you keep the stock seats to put back into the car if/when you go to sell it. Stock seats can be exceptionally expensive in modern cars.
  20. Have you towed with that load yet? I don't think you will find stability to be an issue at all. If you're getting decent help from the trailer brakes, braking shouldn't be an issue. Power is probably fine too, as long as you aren't trying to do 90mph. 3.5k#s behind that power train is easy, 4.5k#s is starting to feel heavy. Air bags wouldn't hurt but to me seem excessive when you are under the tow capacity. I don't have experience with weight distributing hitches, but this seems like a better 'bang for your buck' if they work the way they claim. Better weight distribution and has the added affect of reducing trailer sway. Also seems significantly easier to install. I would think both would be overkill. If the load is where you say it is (3.9k#s), and you aren't also loading the car up, you should be fine. I'm sure either of those would help, but I wouldn't say either are 'needed'. I've done a lot of towing with Pilots in that weight range. I would consider a transmission cooler if your car didn't come with one.
  21. It should tow up to 4500#s that's loaded correctly fine. If you are doing more than that, it's your own funeral. At least I hope you only take yourself out. So many parts of that car aren't up to towing more than that. There is a reason it's only rated to two 4500#s. You are only going to affect the 'chassis' component of the equation with what you are talking about so far. There is no amount of extra crap you can put on that will make it OK with that engine and brakes (other than more power and brakes). If you are at or under that rating and are having issues, you probably have a bad tongue weight (incorrect trailer loading).

Is this the even shittier version of a Vizio?
  23. We use Rotary lifts at work and they work great. I can't specifically recall some of the other brands I've seen in garages, but I've run across some bad ones from the places being cheap and putting in cheap lifts and from a lack of maintenance, poor fixes. Don't skimp on maintenance or getting it fixed right if there is an issue. This is a life saving/risking device. I'm sure the other ones Scott and Patrick suggested are good, I trust their opinions on stuff like this, I just don't recall any specific experience with those. Make sure it's sized right for what you want to do. There is almost nothing more frustrating than trying to put a car on a lift it wasn't designed for, or installed correctly for. I've had to put cars on lifts where you have to put it withing a few inches or less spot or the arms won't line up right. Really frustrating and time wasting. Also, if you can try to make it so it's easy to get in and out of the car door when it's on the lift, that's a plus. We can slide in and out of car windows easily now, but what about 20 years from now? Did you finally decide which part of the garage to put it in? I don't think we got a chance to talk about it at your part, but I did chat about it with Greg for a bit.
  24. Hey, don't lump us all in that bag. He's probably a headliner designer or something equally lame and non-car-enthusiast like. It's Ok, we need them just as much as people who are race car drivers. If the u-joint was the only issue with that car, and the guy fixed it, why not go check it out again? I can understand if you are done with that guy, just a thought. I can't believe no one has mentioned a Ridgeline yet. It seems perfect for what you are intending to use it for. Might have to stretch the budget just a little bit. I have no idea if the 06's have typical 'first year' issue. I just did that search to find the lowest price examples, since it is the first year. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/2006/Honda/Ridgeline/Columbus+OH-43215?endYear=2006&makeCode1=HONDA&mmt=%5BHONDA%5BRIDGELINE%5B%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&modelCode1=RIDGELINE&numRecords=100&searchRadius=0&showcaseListingId=0&showcaseOwnerId=55782018&sortBy=derivedpriceASC&startYear=2006&Log=0 This is just one example that seems like the right combo of lowest price with lowest miles. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/2006/Honda/Ridgeline/Columbus+OH-43215?endYear=2006&makeCode1=HONDA&mmt=%5BHONDA%5BRIDGELINE%5B%5D%5D%5B%5D%5D&modelCode1=RIDGELINE&numRecords=100&searchRadius=0&showcaseListingId=0&showcaseOwnerId=55782018&sortBy=derivedpriceASC&startYear=2006&Log=0
