So if you had 1 person in a car hit your car and run then you would dump all car drivers into the 'bad' column and honk at every single one of them. And that 1 person you saw with a different color skin who did something you didn't like made you not like everyone else with that color skin. :dumb:

Whatever these guys are using.

Isn't 2kg for a roadie wheelset kind of heavy?

He lives in UA... Harley or bust bro. Gotta' keep up with the docs and lawyers. :gabe:

It's a manual without a clutch pedal. When you hear Dual Clutch (I think Ford) DSG/S-Tronic (I think VW/Audi), this is what they are talking about, just different flavors. The clutch(es) are electrically controlled. Except, instead of all of the gears being in 1 set they are in 2 sets with 2 different clutches. They are grouped in 1st, 3rd & 5th, and 2nd, 4th & 6th. So during the 1st to 2nd gear shift, as 1st is releasing, 2nd is applying at kind of the same time. The DBW (drive by wire throttle) is also doing a rev match at the same time. In a good implementation, like the B8 S4, the shift is perfect and quick every time. You can put it in manual auto mode if you want for putzing around town or in stop and go traffic, or put it in manual mode and have some fun. The best of both worlds, IMHO. AFAIK in the S4 the DSG is faster than the manual S4. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dual_clutch_transmission http://auto.howstuffworks.com/dual-clutch-transmission.htm Those who complain about this 'not being like a manual' and 'being too easy' just drive in straight lines and have never even tried to heel and toe while braking at the limit, going through a complex corner sliding the car around.

There is nothing wrong with your planner/advisor making money. You are going to them for their expertise and/or time in this area that you don't know well enough to do on your own, or don't want to invest your time into. This is what they do for a living and they should get paid for it. They should be upfront about any fees and honest about why they are pointing in a certain direction. If you don't feel you can trust them, then go find a different person to do your business with. Josh, I suggest talking to friends or family in the are you live in and get some suggestions. That's how we found our guy and are very happy with him. He spent a few hours with us and answered all of my probably way too detailed questions before we invested our relatively small chunk of money through his firm.

Wait on me hand and foot. Get one of those little kid hiking carriers, and carry me around so I can still go hiking. :fa:

Kirk, I'm glad you think my plan of action is advisable!

I already had an appointment with Steensen on Monday. After getting many different opinions here and elsewhere, mostly negative about an allograft, I will go to him for a second opinion. I don't competitively ski, bike or run, but I do ski and bike fairly aggressively. Being on the low end of that age group and considering how active I am, I'm thinking that surgery is the right route to go.

I don't know all of the details about them, but in general they sound pretty damn good. AFAIK, tax deferred before AND after as long as the funds are used for 'school related expenses'. Which I think can cover tuition, books, and living expenses. I think if you don't use them for school related expenses it gets taxed when you pull it out, use it. http://www.collegeadvantage.com/ Go see a financial advisor, they should be able to talk you through everything. We were talking about contributing to a 529, but like I said, my sister and BIL will have that covered. So I'm just wanting to toss him some beer money while he is in college.

Everybody, thanks for the opinions and experiences. I've been hearing a lot of 'don't even get it replaced because it will just fail anyways and your muscles will compensate for it over time' and 'don't get an alloagraft'. I will likely go get a second opinion and discuss all options with both doctors to be sure I'm going the right route. The doctor seemed to be convinced that without my ACL, I will necessarily be comprised for my other tendons/meniscus at some point, just as a mater of the human body in general. I didn't get the impression that it had anything to do with my particular physiology or injury.
-
Yes, probably. I will be 2 months out from surgery and if there is any running, lots of walking, it sounds like I likely won't be able to do it. On top of that I'm sure this will eat up most of my remaining vaca/sick time. I had a tri the weekend before the rally that I'm 100% not going to be able to do.

Ortho is suggesting Patella tendon from a Cadaver (I'm 30 so I think they typically do stuff from Cadavers at this age). I'm going to do whatever I need to in order to make this as good as possible given the situation.

Did you already get your S5? When Jones said he was going to sell his S4 I immediately though "Tilley or this guy". Doooo Etttt. :fuckyeah:

Dr. Edwards at Orthopedic Excellence. Today was my initial visit, but from my experience today so far, I'm very satisfied. We will see how the surgery and rehab goes and I will make another post here sometime down the road.

I've already asked around quite a bit. I will make sure to do my homework before the actual surgery. I have a bit of time since I'm waiting until after Hawaii, so they surgery won't be until sometime in April. No miniscus tear that they can tell as of right now from them MRI and moving my knee around. Just the ACL and some minor 'bone bruise'. Not looking forward to the atrophy and being too weak to do what I want to do for months. What did you do to your knee? My dad's meniscus is GONE... he's going to need a new knee at some point.
-
Most def, and lots of PT/rehab. Typical 4 months out to biking on a fixed bike and running on a treadmill in PT. 5-6 months from surgery for full exercise capability. I'm going to do as best I can in rehab to get back on the horse. Worst case, I can bike, hike and run again in the fall.

Full (acute) ACL tear.

My BIL and sister are pretty solid so I'm sure they will be able to take care of his schooling. That's why us (me and my partner) and my parents are both separately setting up small 'fun money' funds for him. I just want to take care of my family and support the future generation a little. We are taking care of ourselves just fine and I'm talking $5-10 a week, so one less crapafrapachino a week. That won't even be enough to get in trouble with in 18 years.

You can do the same thing with a computer. From what I understand, the DVR software built into Windows 7 is pretty good. A tuner for OTA (HD) is CHEAP. A computer is basically infinitely scalable in this arena. If it's something you want to do, and it's possible, it's possible on a PC. You are not limited by the capabilities of the device. Any streaming device, player, dvr, will be limited in some way. At the very least you may need multiple devices to achieve what you want to. Right now my PC can stream anything, hulu, netflix, cbs since they don't release most content on hulu... all without limitations of streaming devices. I can play dvd's and blu rays. I could easily rip my DVDs & Blu Rays to my HD if I wanted to (and bought a bigger HD). I don't see the need for that at this point. I could add an OTA HD tuner for ~$50, or a 4 tuner cable card based tuner for ~$200. I will probably add an OTA HD tuner at some point. If a new streaming service comes out, I simply type in the address or install a new piece of software. All from 1 device. My DVD player will soon be packed up and sold/put in the junk pile down in the basement. The cable box left last year.

I would agree with what JB said... see a lawyer that works in the field. What exactly does a 'trust fund' mean. I always imagined it being a complicated account. Is it just simply some type of account (savings, investment, etc) that's directed by the rules in the trust? We are wanting to put a little money away for our new nephew, since we plan on not having kids. And are wondering how this would work. Debating whether to do just some regular savings account in his name or a 529 type of account. His parents, my sister and brother in law, will have his college covered, so we are leaning towards a regular account so he can have some regular money. To buy a car, use for beer money in college. Travel... to the moon, because that's going to be THE place to go for spring break when he's in college. This is also what my parents are doing, a regular savings account. This kid is going to be set when he turns 18. Trust fund kids... lol [/jones]

Ya, it was just another idea. I thought that might be the case but I figured it was worth looking. If I were looking for a sporty weekend car, I would want for more power at some point in either engine A5, at some point down the road. The S5 probably has enough power for most people for a 'fun weekend car' to never be boring.

This is precisely why I built a computer for my TV. With ANY streaming device you will be hamstrung by what the studios want... or the streaming service and the streaming device maker fighting. If there are no agreements between your streaming device maker and Hulu to keep the service running, Hulu could decide at any point that it's their best interest to not stream to your device. I use regular Hulu... not plus. It's free on the PC. I think for the most part plus just gets you old series... or full series of current stuff that's already on there but regular only gets 3-5 most recent shows. We cut the cord and between regular Hulu, streaming netflix, and a few other sites (CBS, etc); we almost never want for watching something on TV. We probably have a better tv watching experience than when we had cable & DVR. I would say we watch a little less TV though, as that was one of the purposes of doing this. I will agree 100% that it's bullshit they 'trick' you into buying plus to watch on your streaming/mobile device... then the content is not the same. On a PC, you do get more content with Plus. In their defense they also clear state, when browsing on your PC, when a show can not be streamed to a 'TV or mobile device'. Berto, if you really want to do this, you may be able to change the info your streaming device sends out about which browser it's using. This is how Hulu knows you are watching on a streaming device, and not a computer and blocks content. This is also how Hulu sends the right info so it works correctly on your TV, so it may not work 100% correct once you've 'hacked' it. I said may because it takes someone who knows more about this type of software than you or I to figure it out. So there may or may not be a way to do this that someone has already published on the net somewhere, for your particular streaming device.

I think the 'problem' might be that evenings are getting split out across the month and the afternoons consildated their vote on the 1st afternoon of the month. I wonder if the people who voted evenings really cared which evening of the month it was? I voted for the 4th Saturday evening... simply to try to consolidate votes on one evening. :gabe:
