  1. His point was that the meth wasn't the only difference between pulls. Before meth he was running 16-17 lbs, after he was running 23 lbs. The increase in boost is what got him that power increase, the meth just allowed him to do it safely. Nice pulls Carl!
  2. The Caliber SRT4 has a 2.4L world engine. (Blocks shared with Hyundai and Mitsu) I would really like to see someone take a CSRT4 engine and put it in the Genesis coupe. (Or at least use the cranks and build a stroker.) It had nothing to do with the traction/stability control. Traction/stability control only controls excessive wheel slip, it doesn't exacerbate torque steer on high mu surfaces. Now, without the LSD the car was given a function in the traction control that uses the brakes to transfer torque (BLD - brake limited differential). If you install an LSD in your car, you may want to turn this off, if the LSD allows enough slip across the axle that would put you across the BLD thresholds. Otherwise, if the wheels spin up together, you will never get into BLD so it's no worry. I could tell you a lot about how the stability control is tuned, considering I did most of it (my co-worker did the traction control).
  3. Stock Sol: 2800-3050 lbs depending on trim with a 53/47 F/R distribution. When it's all done he's going to put it on scales.
  4. The original prototypes had LSD's, but torque steered horrendously. After spending a day at the track and becoming acquainted with the car, it was time to make the 1.5 hour drive back to the office. After taking off from a traffic light with no one around me I decided to punch it in 2nd or 3rd gear. I held on to the wheel tight because I fully expect the torque steer. The car changed lanes twice. Ultimately they made the decision to nix the LSD for this reason.

  6. Ken's collection is open to the public today....I wish I could make it over but we have birthing class
  7. So a few months ago a guy on the Solstice Forum said he was taking the engine out of his 2JZ swapped S13 and planned to drop it in his Solstice. The last 3 weeks he's been making steady progress, and everythings turning out surprisingly easy. Parts run down: 2JZ swapped oil pan to rear sump stock solstice trans with 1JZ bell housing (bolts right on) Stock 2JZ motor mounts (bolted right to the stock Solstice mounts!) Now he's busy wiring it up, but so far the motor dropped right in. Trans is in the stock location so the shifter didn't even move. 8. But buying used you will be getting it for a cheaper price, so who cares about resale? To me, a daily driver is a throw-away car. You buy it used and drive it until it's dead.
  9. ...with a 2.4L turbo engine with a forged bottom end, different suspension, different steering rack, different front and rear seats, Kicker sub in the back, different wheels, bumpers/side skirts, front 300C brakes, unique 6 speed manual, stiffer bushings...
  10. This. I worked on this car a little, so I was able to drive quite a few of them and I really don't think they are a bad car, for what they are. The 2.4L has a lot of power, and can make a lot more. The car feels quick, handles well, is fun to drive, and has an "ok" amount of cargo space. The brakes are great and the tires have a lot of grip. Get snow tires for winter though. The highway drone of the stock exhaust was annoying to me, although some people would probably be ok with it. The stock seats are conmortible and heavily bolstered. For me they were too heavily bolstered. Anytime I would do some 'spirited driving' I would have to either flare my elbows out, or make sure I tuck them in next to my body because when turning my elbows would always get hung up on the side bolsters. The torque steer is as expected on a car like this. It has an open diff because with a LSD is was dangerous. The seats are the nicest trimmed piece in the interior. The dash and door panels are cheap, ugly, hard plastic. Looks are subjective. I liked it, but I'm also comparing it to the looks of a stock Caliber.
  11. Looks great! I've always loved the '90+ 300ZX.
  12. No, he retired. He actually stayed a few years after his original contract called for and now he's consulting for Lotus. Lutz is one of the few auto exec's that "gets it," and he's done a lot for GM, just like he did a lot for Chrysler. He's 79 years old, so it was probably about time to retire.
  13. When I grow up I want to be... ...a good dad that can provide for my family and my son can look up to. ...someone that never stray's from their morals. ...someone that helps others achieve thier goals. I get great satisfaction by helping others achieve something they have worked hard for, and gives my life more meaning than just 'cashin checks.' ...a hard working individual that others in my field can respect.
  14. Nice And Brokedick, yeah, the plates also have a giant "M" in the middle, for Manufacturer.
  15. She's been gone for a while, but I always liked this pic http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/DSC02565.jpg Here's where I almost died on a test trip to Alaska http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/Paxton2.jpg After a couple coats of Zaino on my old MSP. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h92/mallard1055/MSP.jpg

  17. So are those wheels, the 'body kit,' spoiler, Brembo's (you can see the top of the rear caliper in the one pic), etc. I've seen quite a few of these around here. It's definitely a group of ZL1's pre-pro's.
  18. Those are pre-production ZL1's.
  19. Did you see the 1 series wearing the new corporate face? Ugh.... http://www.blogcdn.com/www.autoblog.com/media/2011/06/01-bmw-1-series-leaked630opt.jpg
  20. New tires and aero improvements is what they stated. It's pretty amazing that it's pulling a consistant 1.3G laterally and ~1.1G under braking.
  21. Clay, I really like the RX8 for all the reasons you seem to be considering. Not to mention that they are getting pretty cheap in the used market now. I would love to pick one up sometime, but I don't think it fits the bill for the use you are looking to get out of it.
  22. Cut her a little slack. It's probably the first time she learned Paul Revere was a real guy and not just a band. http://www.paulrevereraiders.com/
  23. Moorea, French Polynesia. Hilton Lagoon Resort and Spa. Couples retreat was in Bora Bora, which is a different island about a 45 min flight away, but the same set up with the over-water bungalow's. We went to Moorea instead of Bora Bora because there is more to do on the island, you can get to it with a 45 min ferry ride from Tahiti, and the snorkeling at our resort was supposed to be some of the best (and I believe that). Save up your hotel points! I could have never afforded to go there without them.
  24. Here are my vacation pics (resized) from my crappy point and shoot. I need to go back. Hopefully I can IMG link to Facebook... http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/47711_466747045398_500655398_6921401_5630758_n.jpg http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/47711_466747040398_500655398_6921400_5258408_n.jpg http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/59240_466747200398_500655398_6921413_1147551_n.jpg Octopus on the reef below our deck in the morning http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/58741_466747380398_500655398_6921424_8372047_n.jpg Walking through the woods. http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/47195_466747760398_500655398_6921445_6781759_n.jpg
