  1. It's running. The swap needed a little modification to the car (crossmember grinding, steering rack mods) and the it's come out that the motor mounts weren't a complete drop in, but it still went in pretty easy.
  2. It was probably a gas tank, not "NOS." Example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/harry_hunt/4159335460/

Chris, thanks for the add. They must have just opened it up again, because they sent me an email and I was able to join. I'll have to copy my Facebook profile over during the weekend...too busy now.

Thanks for the add, but I never recieved an email about it. I wonder if they closed it again?
  5. The way they calculated the fuel mileage was a joke. They refilled the tank until the pump clicked off, drove somewhere else, then refilled until the pump clicked off, and calculated MPG from the volume of fuel that went in. I think we all know that pumps are not that accurate and could easily account for a large discrepency. There are plenty of actual owners reporting 42+ mpg in the Eco, and my coworkers LT 1.4T auto has seen averages from 38-42 mpg on his drives to and from work. http://www.fuelly.com/car/chevrolet/cruze/2011
  6. It is a really good car and it's good to see people taking notice. It's still sad to me when I read comments on sites like Autoblog and anytime the article says something nice about a GM product everyone cries that it's a biased report, or GM must have paid them off. Is it that hard to believe that GM can make a good product? They sold almost 25,000 of them last month to be the best selling car in June, so it can't be that bad. The other sad thing to me is that the average sales price of a new car is ~$30k in the US. At $19k the Cruze Eco does represent a good value, but it's crazy that you can't buy much of anything under $20k anymore. Clay, supposedly the Corvette dynamics engineers tuned the suspension on the Sonic. I'm interested to see what it can do with the 1.4L turbo too.
  7. I hear ya on moving for a nice location, but it's all in what you want. Michigan is very 'out-doorsy' and there's plenty to do for people who like boating, snow mobiling, biking, running, hiking, canoing, camping, etc. The entire metro area I'm in is connected with bike trails. My only complaint is the snow. My perfect location would be somewhere in the Carolina coast line. I live right next to this: http://www.metroparks.com/parks/index_all.aspx?ID=11&r=0# but I haven't had time to get over there much.
  8. The Regal turbo's are everywhere up here. They look pretty good, and handle well. I drove a 2.4L and my only complaint was that it was too slow. The 2.0T should fix that.
  9. I always had fun driving in Detroit traffic and having people try to cut me off, even though I had a 1/2" aluminum plate hangling off the front of my truck. New job is going really well. This past Monday was the "1 year" mark. I miss driving the cars, especially after seeing the new SRT8 300/Charger (I only got to drive 6.4L mules), but I made the right decision. Now that we're expecting our first child in 7 weeks, it will be nice being home all the time, instead of living in a hotel. If you're ever looking to move on, and up to MI, let me know. We have ~22 open positions for all types of engineers (mechanical, electrical, test/lab, hardware, software, systems, program manager...)
  10. Don't take this the wrong way but, grow some balls and take your health seriously. Do you want to die, or do you want to worry about what some douchebag friends are going to say when you take your machine on camping trips? If they make fun of you for it then they're assholes that don't really care about you and don't deserve to be your friend anyway.
  11. Exactly. You could have a 2x6 screwed into the front of your car and I believe it counts.
  12. +1 I used to drive cars with the bumpers removed and 1/2" aluminum plates installed so we could attach outriggers. I'd drive on public roads for a minimum of 2 hours a day (to and from PG) and never had an issue. You may get a dick cop that will pull you over and ask a bunch of questions (happened to one of our tech's), but you should be legit.
  13. Didn't mekkafire die from this? I wouldn't messa round, I'd do what the doc says.

I really don't want to maintain another screen name/login, so I don't think I'll be signing up any time soon. People thought Twitter would be redundant too, but that's been pretty successful becuase it offers something differnet (not trying to be another FB). Also, Google has some of the best developers around, so you can be confident that it will be well integrated with all their other functions (maps, mail, search, etc) and the user interface will be intuitive. The Google+ App on Android certainly won't suck. Its success hinges on if people actually convert to it. It could turn into a Zune vs. iPod type battle. MySpace died because it didn't evolve. FB crushed it and they just stood by and watched. With the resources at both Google and FB this could be interesting. Neither is going down without a fight.
  15. Rhys's roof cam got posted. The throttle response appears to be very on/off, which I think gives the sensation that he's creeping through some of the slower corners. His car GLH once it's straight though!
  16. I googled him to confirm it was a Sunfire, but didn't see video's until you posted the link. That looks to be a BA race car with no relation to a Sunfire. Unlike most people here, I have no problem admitting when I'm wrong. Who's on life support? Did any video's get posted from the guy running the four wheeler in the powersports class?
  17. The first guy had fail written all over him when he decided to modify a Sunfire for hill climb racing.
  18. The graph is percent change, not salary. Not sure if it's entirely accurate because everything I've read shows that average worker wages have been stagnant since the late 90's/early 200's. Brian, you have to do what you think is right for you and your family. It's never an easy choice when you have good money on one side. A year ago I switched jobs and took a small pay cut, but now I don't live in a hotel room 20 weeks a year. That made it worth it for me and now I'll get to be home with my family nearly every night.
  19. Pretty much what everyone pointed you to already. Although LSx is usually a generic term for every gen of the motor, LSX it's also the GMPP designation for their high powered crate motors. http://www.gmperformanceparts.com/lsx/index.jsp
  20. Understood and I can agree on shutting it off for autocross. The thing with autocross is it tends to have very fast, jerky, impulsive motions, which could cause some unwanted ESC activations in a car like yours. Anyone that says they need to turn ESC off on public roads is a person I don't want to be around, which is why I asked. So, Tim, I agree with you. I never want to, or have the person next to me want to turn it off on a public road. Also, IIRC on the MS3 I drove, "full off" on the MS3 isn't quite full off. I thought it still had the anti-rollover protection still active, even though normal ESC is off. But you wouldn't get into that unless you do some very aggressive steering maneuvers.
  21. There were some reasons for this, but obviously SRT always wants to give the "full off" option. The Jeep never got full off. Do you find the ESC intrusive? Do you get into ESC often when you're driving? Why do you need to turn it off?
