  1. Very nice! I was skeptical when it was first announced, but this car has won me over. They did a great job with it. However, I do agree with your comments about the screen. When driving, sometimes I've found it difficult to hit buttons on a touch screen witout taking my eyes off the road, like I could with normal buttons. I'm sure I'll eventually get used to it, and with the S it's going to depend on if the buttons move about the screen or if they are 'locked' in a certain location. I'm looking forward to the full review.
  2. Since it was mentioned in this thread: Detroit Coty Council OK'd the sale of 1500 lots for urban farming project http://www.freep.com/article/20121211/NEWS01/121211061/detroit-city-council-hantz-woodlands-land-sale?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|s Also, as of this afternoon, the Right-to-Work legislation has been signed!
  3. Ok, that's better. Just wanted to be clear that fruits are simple carbohydrates and would spike you blood sugar quite a bit. Also, you have to be careful when saying grains are complex, because anything made with white flour is not. Two slices of whole wheat bread will spike your blood sugar more than a Snickers bar so it's tough to make a blanket statement like 'grains are complex carbs' and i.e. won't spike your blood sugar.
  4. Just to clarify, are you calling grains an fruits simple or complex?
  5. While I would like to hire you for an engineering job and pay you less because of your degree, HR won't let me. You'd be qualified for our test group though, since they are all considered technician's. Not to go too far off topic, but we've been through a lot of guys in our test group because the applicants without degree's are even worse then the applicants with degree's (duh). Last year in Vegas one of these guys had the job of following me on a predetermined route. First, he missed an exit (he was following me!!) so I told him to turn around and catch up with us at the next stop. About 45 minutes later he's calling me saying he's lost and asking me for directions by describing the names to the streets he's passing. His car had a f-ing NAV system. He called me three more times, but I stopped answering. People who aren't total retards are hard to find. I completely agree.
  6. I'm an engineering supervisor. I have 2 openings in my group for Systems/Test Engineers that I have been trying to fill for months. There's alos two more supervisor positions that are open in my group and I sit in on those interviews. The candidates out there right now are worthless. The night before I made that post, I stayed at work late to interview a guy that wrote a good resume, then bombed every aspect of the interview. When I sat down and said, "tell me a little bit about yourself" he replied, "well, in college I wasn't really a good student at all." FIAT may own a majority of Chrysler now, but there is still allot of engineering and development that occurs here, and that's not going to change.
  7. I actually think the opposite. Sure, CrossFit is becoming increasingly popular, but the principals behind it are pretty solid, the workouts are scaleable to any fitness level, and you don't need any special equipment. It's something you could do in your garage or basement without having to buy expensive machines. I could forsee some gyms having difficulty staying open beause of this, but I think the community will continue to grow.
  8. That I can believe 100%, and those numbers are ~7 years old, but probably haven't changed too much. I know of a few new grads making over $60k, and some are stuck-up, worthless, self-righteous, good-for-nothing bitches. I need to start another thread about the complete worthless talent coming out of college these days. I've seen some real peices of work lately. If I could find someone that was able to find their own way in/out of the parking lot I would hire them for $60k right now. (I'll even give them a NAV system, if necessary)
  9. Batman and Iron Man 3 were going to be filmed in Detroit, then the new governor got rid of all the film incentives and they immediately pulled out. The new "Oz" was filmed in a newly constructed film studio in Pontiac, then the film incentives ended and they couldn't book any more business. It's actually pretty sad, the former governor (Granholm aka the most annoying bitch in the world) fucked up big time and guaranteed the $18 million in loans with state pension funds. Now there's a brand new building that's going to sit empty and rot starting on its completion date. It's almost right next door to my office, which is surrounded by empty buildings once part of a thriving industrial park. I LOL'd at this. I would like to see where that figure came from because it's not ture. Unless, you're saying that if you choose to live in a shitty Detroit neighborhood you're money will go 25% farther. There are a lot of engineering jobs in the Detroit area, and everyone is hiring, but htere are very few qualified candidates. If you are the right person, and you find the right job at the right time this could be true, but it's not a valid statement across the board.
  10. There probably are some people out there doing it for this reason, but for a vast majority of the ones I know that statement couldn't be farther from the truth.
  11. LOL, I never realized Jones and Thorn had something in common!
  12. Really? Screen name? I must not have kept up with it.
  13. Next time you are in town you should drive around some of the neighbourhoods near Wayne State. There were some very rich neighborhoods for back in the day when auto exec's lived down there full of brick Victorian mansions. Some are taken care of, some are crumbling. There's still a lot of interesting architecture down there, it's just in a sad state.
  14. Don't forget turbo beetle dude, JB, JPee, and of course Biddaaaaaaay.
  15. Put that in your business plan and you would probably get funding. The Packard plant is a disgusting symbol of what the city of Detroit has become. They are JUST NOW moving to foreclose on the property after hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes. They tried to before, but didn't do their paperwork right. For the longest time they didn't even know who the rightful owner was, until it was discovered that a famous graffitti artists did a wall in the plant. Preservationists were looking to remove the wall to preserve the artists work, and then the owner magically surfaced. Some of the best ruin porn is the Detroit Train Station. The main room was designed by the same guy who did Grand Central Station. It was once a beautiful building, now left to rot. The Packard Plant is a collection of square brick buildings that are crumbling (and have tress growing in the roof) and needs to be demolished. The train station is something that should be (or should have been) preserved. Yet the Detroit City Councel has put more effort into forcing the destruction of the train station because it's become a symbol of the city's blight.
  16. Oh yeah, she's due out of prison soon and probably getting ready to run for re-election.
  17. ...it started out so innocently. I was supposed to get paid to go over and put her 18 year old pussy on my lap...
  18. Detroit. No need for fertilizer, it's already a pile of shit. There are honestly investors trying to turn parts of the D back to farm land, but no one seems to be thinking about how contaminated much of that land is after decades of industrialization.
  19. This girl's a Tiger's fan. You should ask her to go to a game with you. http://jalopnik.com/5966246/this-woman-is-taking-a-bath-at-a-car-wash
  20. Parts of the final chase scene in Transformers was filmed in Detroit too, as well as Gran Torino. Actually a few movies have been filmed around the old train station. Beautiful building that's been left to rot by a worthless piece of shit billionaire. He won't sell it and he won't do anything with it unless the city gives him a bunch of money for renovations. He's the same guy that owns the Ambassador Bridge, as well as a lot of other rotting properties around the city. The was a bill on the recent ballot that would have allowed the state to take control of the city's finances, but it was defeated. I think our current governer (see, I lean Republican!) is doing a great job, but he's getting stonewalled by shitty politicians and special interest groups.
  21. Deductibles, coinsurence, ambulance bills. It adds up. Luckily, they did cover most of his prescription. The one drug he was on for a week cost $4500. But that's a topic for another thread. Jones - that's one solution.
  22. Would I ever buy a $100k wagon (no matter what make or model), no. Would I ever buy a $100k sedan, yes, depending on make and model. Would it be this car? Not sure.
  23. Duh, my point was that my income would support it, considering all the necessary budgeted expenses. I put the statement about medical costs because the obvious troll rebuttal to me saying I could afford it would be to question why I'm driving a Volt and an Equinox. When your newborn gets rushed to the ER three times and has two hospital stays of 4+ days each you tend to put off the purchase of a 'fun' car.
  24. Also, a lot of good stuff has come out out Detroit, just not in a long time. The city has been on a steady decline, and it was once referred to as "the Paris of the West." Now it needs to be taken control of by the state.
  25. Read some of the comments on YouTube. imstock2 - In raw numbers its probably not the highest since there aren't that many people that actually live in the city anymore. The homicide rate it really high though, so maybe they'll all just kill another.
