  1. Are you going to weld 9" ends on? I am afraid of doing that without a jig- I am going to preheat with oxyacetylene and then try to tig the housing to the tubes with some 1/8" nickel smaw rod without flux.
  2. how is the turn off at the end of the track with the spool? Probably dumb ??? but do you need 9" ends or c-clip eliminators with disc brakes? Or are the caliper brackets insignificant in shear strength?
  3. I got a better deal at carmax than both lindsay acura and columbus acura on our RL. Neither would deal with me. Columbus acura seemed to have nicer inventory than lindsay at that time.
  4. Hey guys- For about 6-800 rwhp- automatic, 2800 lb car on slicks. Explorer 31 spline 8.8 with welded axle tubes, cover girdle and studs, double packed trak-lok. (~500.00) Or 9" Versailles housing but I have to buy 31(33) spline center section and axles (~1650.00) Both will have disc brakes and I will have to weld the spring perches and set pinion angle on both- the explorer will be about 1" longer on each side and the versailles will be perfect. The fenders should accomodate the 1" without rolling- 9" is about 80 lbs heavier but gear swaps though more expensive are easier. I am leaning towards the exploder as I think the 9" may be overkill for an automatic lightweight car and is 3x the price and heavier. Thanks
  5. Thanks! That does look like some serious hardware- now to scour the used market!
  6. I do and will- thanks. Found on the interweb.... thoughts? --- I have an o2 sensor, and am going to an egt gauge soon. The beauty with an o2 sensor, is that you can tune your powervales and see exactly when it opens up with the o2 gauge, and with a vacuum gage also, you can fine tune it so you have no dead spots. I would say an O2 gauge is good for part throttle tuning, and an EGT gauge is good for WOT. I'll have both soon, but I think my carb is set up pretty close to perfect the way it is. I guess I'll find out though. ---
  7. Hey all- As far as carb jetting is a wideband O2 the way to go or is an EGT probe the preferred method? Holley 4bbl. that will likely end up being a blow through turbo setup Thanks, Andrew
  8. thats a good idea shanton with the duct- I guess I could put it where the AC condenser was but there is a short transmission cooler there now and an oversized radiator with dual electric fans so hopefully all should be good- I was just curious how much hotter cars typically ran and if it was a common issue with that hot intercooler hogging up all the air.
  9. Hey all- Thinking about a custom intercooler setup- I don't have that much room to move the radiator back so the two will probably be pretty close- I see pictures of setups on for example corvettes directly in front of the radiator and as big if not wider and I can't believe the radiator gets any airflow at all... How does this work? Thanks, Andrew
  10. wow- wonder what she had done!
  11. Sux dude! On a related note- Don't park at the meters near goodale downtown- that kind lady has gotten my wife twice there- don't try to dispute it either as they have pictures- I don't know if putting it in the front window will get you out of it or not as I have seen some people do. We have a new family rule that she must drive the front plated beater if she is to park there as she must sometimes do so for work purposes.
  12. I don't know how you would consider a vette a 5 door but if your driving that one you should drive an s2000 and a 350z or g35. My parents had an 05? M45 - I think that was the year- the older body style- that thing was FAST for what it was- handled really well also for such a big car- It was ridiculous in the snow though- it didn't even have a limited slip differential and they must have been summer only tires... warped the rotors in under 25K miles and infiniti dealer wanted a lot for routine maintenance under 30K- but other than that it was cool- they did lose a lot on resale though as it depreciated a lot. So I guess the only good thing about it was the performance ;-) Our '08 Acura RL is not as fast (I don't believe so but it's been a few years) but is a much better car and I would argue it would outhandle it with its AWD and "sporty" suspension. We drove the GS350 as well and it was a really nice car but they wanted a premium over the RL without the same level of excitement it was sort of like sitting on my couch and watching myself drive on tv- very detached.... I did like the 100K mile bumper to bumper warranty they were going to give us on an 08 with 20K miles. I wont drive german cars so that takes most of the rest of your list off for me.
  13. Thanks all- If this chassis works out I am going to be looking for some upgraded parts then...
  14. lol. I must have missed something.
  15. Can a Ford 8" (not a typo for 9" or 8.8") take 6-800 whp in an automatic equipped rwd car on slicks around 2800 lbs? Thanks, Andrew
  16. Hey guys- About 70K miles on the truck. Fuel pressure is not affected as it is a constant 67 psi. It acts fine when cold but after it warms up it will randomly miss and eventually stall out at idle. It will also hesistate when driving down the road and makes a random beeping noise but no lights on the dash that we can tell. No codes or lights as checked with OBD-II scan tool. DPFE sensor replaced previously and it indicated codes then, cleaned out IAC, jiggled ignition switch, looked for vacuum leaks, have also cleaned out MAF sensor....Anyone with any ideas? Sort of seems like a TFI box but don't know if this truck has one? Thanks, Andrew
  17. All very good points- I like the ecotec as those turbo cobalts are very fast- my only concern is that it will cost a lot more at the power level I want to be at... but I will def look into it- the 4g63 may be cheaper but I was not aware of the hptuners tuning as I am getting that for the vette very soon so subtract the price of whatever is necessary to tune the 4g63.. Once we find one my dad and I want to put it into a 1970s AMC Gremlin (~2000 lbs) with a T5 or T56 and a 8.8 or 9". Goal is low 10s. Thanks for all of the advice everyone!
  18. Thank you everyone for your responses it looks like the 4G63 is a winner.
  19. that's what I was thinking in fwd and awd configurations but that guy has one in his mustang and it looks longitudinal to me somehow..
  20. Thanks guys! I knew the 1G DSM motor was strong but didn't know it was able to be mounted longitudinally and or adaptable to a transmission that was like glass unless I threw tons of money at it... I need to talk to that mustang guy on youtube... I know the auto is better for boost but I want to slam some gears....
