  1. great guys thanks! I didn't even know about the omni kenny-- that thing looks like a plymouth horizon my grandmother used to have but it didn't have a turbo. Appreciate it. Thanks for the link zach to the lemons- if you hear anything else about htat let me know.... I think I am going to go for that lemons race or the grassroots 2009. I need to do some research but as far as base car I am probably going to end up with a FB, FC, 914, k-car, dsm, or colt? 924/931 is also possibility. 944/951 costs too much. Now to see if my dad is in.
  2. thanks for the suggestion! DEfinitely what I had in mind- I even entertain the 1g dsm thing too even though I have heard nightmares.
  3. this sounds perfect miller- any details on the competition? a CR event?
  4. I liked the S14 LS1 even built a spread sheet on it... that too was about 25 grand when all done. FC rx7 can be about 8-10 if you use a 5.0 or LT1. Thanks for the suggestions- I am leaning right now to less involved/cheaper projects... nothing earth shattering probably budget 5 grand with a 10 grand final cost ;-) Ideally it woudl be 1000-5000 though.
  5. ??? with blown engine? up the boost? 2009 challenge?
  6. You know that would be sweet I always was leaning the ls1 route before I got my current car but much more expensive/porschehybrids.com (about 25K)--- I doubt I could do it for $2009 dollars or even under 10 grand. I really like the 914/302 idea better though but man those porsche parts are expensive and they are such rust buckets- if I was going to pony up again for a porsche project I would probably do something 914 related. That v6 was 4.4" shorter even though it was the same width and that was a cramped mofo- they now put them in from the bottom which they claim is easier...
  7. I don't have a preference. A car that looks like a yugo that will out handle a z06 would be cool, a car that looks like a sl55 that drives like a yugo would be cool if we learned about body work, or a yugo that could out accelerate a crotch rocket would be nice as well. The important thing is that it wouldn't be too expensive and can be liquidated or used for some practical purpose or competition rather easily. We already have 841 hp between us in great handling, factory engineered cars that we drive almost daily.

damn I have been out of the loop- what happened to your fox? Where did you get this and why are you selling it? How is the body for rust? N/M just saw that. I am interested.
  9. Hey guys/gals- I guess I should have titled that a fun yet practical car project. My dad and I have always done car projects together starting with a porsche 924 we put a 4.3L EFI V6 in when I was about 17 to most recently my 5.0 coupe I just sold back in August- we turned literally every bolt on that car other than the suspension and shortblock. The problem is what do you do with it when finished for justification to recover any cost, use it, or just get rid of it to clear space. We enjoy working on them and building them but don't want to daily drive them- we already have nice/fun cars for that. It could be as simple as buying something cool with a blown engine and rebuilding it (the only thing we haven't done mechanically) and selling it when done. Anyone done that? Maybe a DSM or 240SX something young people like? Maybe a motorcyle? We could do one of those 110/220 volt EV conversions to a wrecked civic or something and use it to go to the post office or commuting... Full kit cars, at least the ones that I am aware of, cost too much and are too hard to sell and most times are completely impractical. I am tempted by a budget monster miata or v8 rx7 but I am sure the market for those is terrible as well and they probably get super expensive by the time you are done and driveable. ohhh... Anyone know anything about the grassroots $2008 challenge or something like that? That would be pretty good... maybe a columbus racing, buckeyestangs, columbus dsm, stangbangerz, etc $2009 challenge? At least there would be a purpose to the construction and costs would be reasonable. hmm maybe a super budget monster miata/rx7 v8 for that... Kind of like pine wood derby on an adult scale-
  10. Where did the obamas get their money?????? Royalties on their book sales? Thanks, Andrew

    Cobra drag pack

    That thing sounds good.
  12. I've only had my LSX car since August. I purchased my previous car a 5.0 fox coupe bone stock and set the goal of running low 12s in the 1/4. I put lots of sweat equity and dollars into it and it turned out to be a stock looking monster of a ride- upon meeting my goal I got bored with straight line acceleration and felt limited by the 1979 chassis in daily driving and the twisties. I didn't want to give up the acceleration so I started looking at my other options... after about 8 months of hard work advertising on numerous online forums, renewing ads, adding more information, and chasing tire kickers I finally sold it for a decent amount for a car that had 180K miles on the body and 18 years old- nowhere near what I had in it but all I really wanted was a down payment for my next car and I already had 3 cars with a two car garage so I couldn't keep it. While I do miss its rawness sometimes the chassis in the c5 z06 I replaced it with is unquestionably amazing- it has 90-95% acceleratoin bone stock as that car had and I can actually have a conversation with my wife now and drive more than 20 minutes without being exhausted- No regrets- I just hope it is reliable as that 5.0 car was.
  13. Where are they getting this income? Does anyone know how they earned it?
  14. siliconintakes.com siliconhoses.com turbohoses.com What size do you need?
  15. wow- thanks for the insight- thought it would be a fun little project to make some money on.
  16. amg is your friend- did you try the manufacturer- I am sure customer loyalty is one of their highest priorities considering their price to reliability factor
  17. well there is one on craigslist for 600.00 with a blown engine so you may be able to make a buck if you fixed it.
  18. hey guys, Anyone know what a katana 1100 is worth in good shape? Thanks, Andrew
  19. I am picking up what you are putting down... ignore the others with their numerous "poetic" posts.
  20. wow- thanks for sharing that. That guy is my hero.
  21. FYI my f-body was totaled due to a hydroplane in standing rain in cincinnati where I was traveling at 65 mph, tried to take an exit ramp, the rearend came out, the car spun and hit a wall... It was such a POS at 75K miles though I used the insurance money to buy an acura RSX-S for my wife instead of another f-body ls1 or not. I would like to see you destroy a 8.8 with a stock motor. I would even be surprised you could spin an axle spline (the weak link)...and axles are only 250.00 new and then the rear is virtually unbreakable. I am in agreeement it will take heads, cam, and bolt ons for an lt1 to run with an ls1. That wasn't me- my z is silver and bone stock in every way and I am loving it like this.
  22. I don't know why I wasted so much time in this thread... They are both fun cars with their own unique idiosyncrasies. Both can be made very fast with enough money and they are too close in the end (weighing handling, mileage, looks, mod potential, ability to withstand abuse, braking, sound, etc) to justify getting rid of one (taking a loss on resale/mods/etc.) to get the other.
  23. It should be as it weighs nearly 200 lbs versus 75 lbs- t56 versus t5
