  1. You do not make any sense brother... what does my driving skills, which you have never witnessed btw, have anything to do with reliability? IE leaking intake manifold that ruined a clutch, both power window failures, t-top leaks, headlight motor failures, 2 broken rearends, 100K plugs that lost platinum discs at 25K, false knock, terrible interior fitment, creaks, rattles, etcetc I was on the f-body mailing list since 1995 until 2004 and attended all but one of the annual events- I know f-bodies. The cc306 was the recipe for sucess ala chris marsh and his 12.0 N/A stock displacement blueprinted LT1 and is what it took to make them fast N/A at the time and the damn thing would hardly idle at stop lights and surged like a mofo. I am not a GM or Ford guy by any means- I would likely buy a new f-body if they ever come out with it. I currently drive a z06 corvette but my 5.0 coupe will always have a special place in my heart... my f-body was a fun car that I enjoyed thoroughly, I just don't want another fourth-gen. We are not debating LS1 vs LT1- if you want to however ;-)... bone stock LS1 SS 1999 my sisters car.... My LT1 car had ET Streets, six speed, 4.10 gears, ripper shifter, ported MAF, dumps, 160 T-stat, LT4 ESC module and a few more doodads and her bone stock 99 LS1 SS walked me on street tires while she jammed to the radio at national trails. Anyone remember john campbell and his chili pepper red 98 back in 98-99? Where is Fetter...
  2. +2 I tore the rear out of my f-body twice. Carrier bearings, ring gears, pinion seals, etc are disposable in that car.
  3. Dude you have no idea what you are talking about, no offense. My mustang was 10X more reliable than my f-body and it had almost 190K on the body when I sold it versus 75K on my f-body when I totaled it and I bought it brand new.
  4. You obviously feel strongly about this- I really wish I still had my fox to show you otherwise... even before the blower ;-) An LT1 car should be almost a half second faster for the same amount of mods as it has almost 50 more cubic inches and is has been engineered more recently 1993 versus 87 if you dont want to go all the way back to 1979 for the chassis. The reason that they are not is A) that a 1.6 60' is considered average on slicks with a 1.4 being impressive in a fox body due to the ability to bolt slicks on a dump the clutch at near redline and have the rearend take it like a man- unlike the f-body. And the weight disadvantage- fourth-gen f-bodies weigh at least 500 lbs more than fox bodies (Mine was about 3700 lbs (t-tops, ASR, 1sc, you name it other than leather) while my fox was only 3150) so there goes the cubic inch advantage and the launchability and quick revving short stroke overcome the LT1 cars. Still they are pretty close and it comes down to what you want to do with the car- the f-body chassis and for ride quality and handling are worlds above the mustang and they can hold their own at the dragstrip- but you are comparing across generations- the mustang sounds better, the lt1 isn't prone to idle issues like the 5.0, the lt1 gets better mileage due to its t56 and low end torque, but as has been said before- climbing on top of the !@%!% engine to do a plug change is why when I totaled mine I did not get another. If you haven't already done an optispark swap you have some things to look forward to. If you really want to compare mustangs versus camaros you need to look at the 82-92 camaro versus the 87-93 mustang. the 96-98 Mustangs were weak it is well established- I toasted one with my LT1 car in third gear by accident because I thought I was in first. But now compare an LS1 car to a 99+ P motor car... The third gen goes to the mustang hand down, the first half of fourth-gen goes to the camaro hands down and the later half is about even. A fox mustang is much better in the snow/ice however than an LT1 car... it could have been the reduced weight, better differential, or better tires BFG KDWS versus Goodyear RSAs and Pep Boys Futuras but I had a much easier time with mine when I had to pilot it in those conditions
  5. Make sure it is an E code VIN... looks like a lot of bodywork has been done to it and it could have started out as a 4 cylinder. Make sure it at least has the 8.8 rear. If you want a car that will handle stick with the camaro it has a much better suspension platform than the mustangs with its TA, SLA front end and 3 link rear- add a panhard and some good shocks springs, sfcs you are good to go- you can also fit 275s easy on there, has much better brakes to start and the vette brakes pretty much bolt on. The camaro is much harder to work on than the mustang and my 96 I bought new was nowhere near as reliable as my 5.0 car. You will also get better mileage with the camaro with the 0.50 sixth gear. You do need a 12 bolt though. I loved my fox coupe. I liked my 96 f-body.
  6. No, that is the exact word for it... This thread is not as blatantly obvious as many others I have seen over the years (even though a few replies are) and this is what someone else was trying to say in a nice way. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist Maybe I should have said anti-capitalist to better make my point that this thinking is completely against what our country was built on. I will take your word for it on lodge- definitely will try the place sometime on the weekend over the week- thanks.
  7. Couple things- You all are a bunch of socialists that pick on Cavin. Damn- I am going to look into nursing- was not aware. The fact that motorcycles are dangerous is not new. I have never been to lodge bar but have heard it is weak. Why did I read this entire thread?
  8. Thanks guys! I will search for the 3M tape- we thought of punching the threads but were afraid to do it.
  9. You guys are nuts. I wouldn't go 180 mph in anything that doesn't have wings.
  10. My LS6 has drive by wire as well but I still go LS2 with you.
  11. For those of you that are using tylenol or other brands of acetaminophen before bedtime when drunk do yourself a favor right now and STOP! acetaminophen is converted to a toxic metabolite when combined with alcohol and the ever present alcohol dehydrogenase that breaks down alcohol in the process of clearing it from your system. This metabolite will absolutely destroy your liver in no time Ibuprofen w/ water or better yet just plain water is a better idea. Ever wonder why some women and people of asian descent of equal bodyweight to men cannot handle their liquor? While not universal they typically have less copies of the same enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase. most of a hangover is caused by lack of sleep A) because you are typically up late drinking and B) alcohol inhibits REM sleep which means in an exaggerated example if you sleep 4 hours you are really sleeping 2 and for another major part dehydration causes the symptoms of hangover as the enzymatic reaction that breaks down alcohol uses water from your system so hydrating is what will reduce the effects water is also used in the filtration of the toxin from your body in your kidneys- and of course purging the system by vomiting causes you to get a lot of the alcohol out of the body so yes drink lots of water/gatorade with its electrolytes can accelerate hydration to a point and if you can vomit. And yes conesmasher those are great recommendations for curing nausea... BRAT - bananas, rice, apple sauce, toast. And I thought my degrees were a total waste-
  12. The fuel rail covers are LS2 style. I think since they are red someone thought they were LS6. Either way cool animation.
  13. I was not inquiring into the difficulty of building an engine. I was discussing the practicality- sure I could do it just for the hell of it and have it sit somewhere until I could figure out what to do with it but wouldn't it be easier if those who have not had the opportunity as of yet could share in this experience? I guess we can try it this way.. who has a car with a blown engine right now. Having an engine you built run for a few minutes supported from chains or on an engine stand is cool but nothing like putting it into something you can drive under load and see what happens.
  14. I say civic as I prefer hondas to toyotas but does the toyota also have a timing chain issue at this mileage point?
  15. Hey guys- I am sure a lot of you are like me with desires of building your own engine but A) can't justify pulling out a perfectly good engine to rebuild B) don't know what you would put the engine in if you did build it or C) don't have a garage/shop where it could be done and the wife/SO is not down with the kitchen rebuild like war of the worlds ;-) Sooo... Does anyone know of a class that teaches you hands on how to build an engine and then that engine is tested or put into something so you can see it run/perform? I know I could just buy something with a blown engine and try to sell it after I rebuild but I already have 3 cars and only a two car garage and this is not the time to sell ANYTHING other than maybe necessities for life. If I were to organize it/collect money would one of our experts be willing to teach it or even host it at their shop? I have one maybe two really cool experts in mind I know to ask if they would teach and both are on the board. Thanks! Andrew
  16. The guy that bought them is on here- he may want to sell them to you for a tad more- mustanggt5liter dave is his name.
  17. I think you need something for that other than a new car. But for my recommendations For 5-10K Built 1G DSM or Built Fox body mustang For 10-15K E36 M3 or C4 vette or V8 FC Rx7 swap or Porsche 944 Turbo w/turbo upgrade. For 15-20K Porsche 944 LS1 Swap, or if you are resourceful a 914 LS1 swap. For 20-25K C5 vette, older EVO For 25-30K C5 Z06 or E46 M3 or newer EVO and maybe an 05 C6 if you look long enough
  18. I just had a set that were perfect but for one bolt that was broken off I let go for 5.00
  19. hah been there done that already- remember our 460 bb truck with the problems- that head WAS f-ng heavy but I expected that being it was a big block truck engine. I was speaking more of the difference between aluminum and iron sbf heads- never felt an aluminum bbf head.
  20. Nice! Thanks- I just ordered a set of the gloves for me and my dad.
  21. Mine weighed in the 30 lber range as well- surprisingly heavy for what it was. You should feel a set of iron heads on that engine at least compared to aluminum.
  22. checked loctite's website but will call... this bolt has no head to safety wire... btw where do you buy safety wire anyhow? Thanks!
