I did some reading on VATs, sounds like a fun problem. Is there any way to turn it off and keep it off? I dont want to be in the woods with no way to start my rig because my battery died and the computer reset.

Thanks for the info so far, anyone wanna help put together a basic junk yard list? Especially those little things that get forgotten.

Sounds like the gen 3 engines are the way to go. Is there any model car/truck I should avoid?

Keeping weight down will be good where possible. The 6.2 is maybe 200-300lbs more than a small block which isn't terrible. Diesel also has the problem on trails of not being able to spin tires fast enough at times. Old mudder, 5,700lbs New design calculating in under 3,000lbs.
-
I would go that route except I can't think of an easy and cheap to obtain diesel engine that's also light weight. I already have the military truck if I want to trail ride something heavy.
-
Also this vehicle won't have any need for gauges other than the mechanical stuff, ie temp, oil pressure, tach, etc.
-
I'm building the whole thing from scratch so I'm not concerned about fitment. I just finished measuring a bunch of things on my old mudder to get a baseline for the project.

Is there something to modding the harness from the donor vehicle? I have a hard time spending money on a new custom wiring harness when in the worst case scenario I could just make my own. Would it actually need tuning? I'm looking to go 5mph tops on the trails and don't need much with 4.88 gears and at least one transfer case. Idling good and starting very easy are much more important than power. The only time HP will come into play is during rain when I gotta spin the tires clean to continue climbing a hill, but at this point it will have 38" boggers on it.

I'm thinking of building a 4x4 rock crawler looking vehicle and am going over engine options. I currently have a pre `86 350. Its all original and from a `78 blazer. It runs, but if I use it, its getting at least a real good cleaning, painted, and a complete gasket and seal set. Worst case it gets rebuilt and if I go that route the goal would be a decent power increase. I'm also thinking of going with a more modern engine such as the `97 and newer gen III small blocks. I have two reasons for doing this, 1) It would hopefully run better when it gets wet (ie no more distributor) 2) Also hoping its the type of engine I could make completely submersible by adding a snorkel and maybe plugging or adding hose length to a few other things. Reason is sometimes you end up in a mud hole thats simply to deep and thats a sad reason to blow an engine. I'd like to be able to back up and get out of trouble. Its been awhile since I've paid a lot of attention to engine technologies, I'm guess all I'd have to do in order to run one of those engines is get the complete engine plus the wiring harness and computer. Is there a minimum amount of sensors they need to run well?

Ohio's law stopped everyone except banks from doing it. Banks have to call the interest "fees" but still make more than 325%.

Possible sleep apnea? I had that, but lost some weight and that has all but disappeared. I also have the problem of being an insomniac anyway, but still get about 7-8hrs of sleep most nights. I think I'll agree with Tim, its just our 30's;-)

I agree with getting weights. Hands down best way to lose weight and your muscle mass will increase at the same time. Getting a single machine like a rower might get boring. Thats where the bench and dumbells come in handy. There are so many combinations of motions you can do to mix it up. I use a heavy bag for cardio plus it increases my striking power which is always a plus. Only downside to a weight system is for me was that in 6mo I out grew cheaper sized weights and now I'd be paying quite a bit to keep increasing at home. This is where a cheap gym comes in handy.

Sure sociable would be great and with that ability he'd find his own path pretty well, but thats something that probably isn't in him. I struggled with the same thing, but was at least diverse enough in my interests that I could "fake" socializing to a degree and have gotten much better at it as I got older. He does great in school doing his assignments, but I think its more of some of his good autistic traits that allow school work to be easy for him rather than actually having to put forth any effort. Lots of those types of people have reallly good memorizing abilities. He's never really had parents (due to their drug problems) so all he is, he's done completely on his own so its been unguided and basically just video games. His maturity level is totally not up to par with normal 12yr olds (if maturity can even be stated at 12, hehe)

I forgot about Arduino, I was looking at some of it at Micro Center and I bet he'd really like that type of thing. One of his oddities is he won't go outside. He will do it if you reward him with something such as playing video games, but even then he jets back to the house at the first sign of a bee or similar things so outside stuff or getting dirty is out. I'll talk to my mom about Arduino kits a bit and see what she thinks. I wish I lived closer to him (3hrs away) and might have to start visiting much more often.

My daughter is a little over 4 and for a few years we've been watching her and noticing that she seems to have some asperger traits. Being a boy was bad enough, I can't wait to see how it is to raise a girl with my problems. hehe
-
Thats exactly the ability that I've always had. When I was 11-12 my mom and I decided that I'd go take programming lessons and I quit after 3 visits to the instructor, one per week due to me advancing so fast a class room environment wasn't working out for me. I started with him handing me a book and by the time I was finishing HS I had a job with a local IT firm where I apprenticed to a couple of their programmers and learned the other aspects of IT and turned it into a good career. I'm hoping something like that could happen with him, I almost wish he could live with me. I feel bad for him, having my parents be his parents, hehe. They are now a lot older than when they had to raise my difficult butt.

I have a nephew who's 12 and has a lot of asperger or autistic behavioral traits (Not completely non functional like autism, just a lack of a lot of social skills and very one track minded along with a lot of the oddities that can come along with the syndromes.) The big problem is that he's a serious gamer nerd, and that wouldn't be a problem except that with his problems I'm afraid it is going to get in the way of him ever being able to function in the world and he needs direction. The sad part there is he is being raised by my parents due to his parents being trash. If the diagnoses had been prevalent when I was his age I'd probably have been in the same boat though not so severe. I know a bit of what he's going to have to deal with as he gets older and I want to help him out if I can. He looks up to me and I'm probably one who could help. Anyone know anything about this stuff? I know he'd like to get into some computer programming, I just need to figure out how to really get him hooked. Trouble is I don't know where to start these days. All I have are old QBasic, C++ manuals from my teenage years.

At times I've read a lot into depression and possible treatments, from what I can tell meds don't sound like a good road to go down. For me its hobbies, if I don't keep pushing myself with insane projects, hobbies, etc I get really bad.

I like shooting portraits 100mm or longer so I usually use my 70-200L 2.8. The longer lens gives much better subject feature compression and is especially useful for larger people.
-
I recently moved my personal and business accounts to PNC. They seem to be pretty modern and the branch in Sunbury that I use has people who I like to work with.
-
The 50 is a lot of lens for under $100 so it should be in every lens bag. It will be a tight frame on a crop body but I like shooting tight. If you end up liking 50mm there is always the 50 1.2L.

Is there any set up that needs done? I'm just sitting at the house and thinking of starting down to QS&L since it will take me awhile to get there and I might end up early.

IDK, the question gets asked constantly on ohioccwforums.org and its always answered "no if your not carrying at the time."
