Something you can try is put a layer or two of white nylon over your flash. It will reduce the output on it and create softer light. Or you can hold an index card in front of it and angle it so the light bounces towards your ceiling. This would be best done in manual mode so that you can adjust the light with your camera's aperture.

My canon S2IS had "super macro" mode which could focus on objects in contact with the glass. Actually now that you reminded me of that I think I'll bring it along next time I shoot a ring closeup. If you got a DSLR most wedding photogs use the Canon 100mm Macro lens for things like that FYI.

I checked MPEX rental prices and WOW. I think I'll try to pick up the 50 1.4 for my next wedding. I have the 50 1.8, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. To me it makes everything look "red" or underexposed compared to my other lenses and it almost can't focus, but what would you expect for a sub $100 lens.

I looked at POTN a little bit, but seemed to annoying for my tastes. I'm on http://www.fredmiranda.com for the wedding section.

Very cool that Mid West rents now. I'll probably see what they have for my next wedding. I use a gripped 40D + 16-35mm 2.8II and a 70-200 2.8 for the weddings I do.

We need a CR photog trip to the track or zoo or something, would be good fun.
-
On the 1.6 sensor those lense are gonna be tight and no zoom might be a problem. Primes are something a person learns to use and developes a style to use them. I'd think the 70-200 would be more appropriate for sports (especially since most of the glass at a major sporting event is white.)

At the minimum an XSI + an F2.8 lens. Not sure how close you get to the competition or if flash is allowed. If you go down to Mid West Photo on High St they might be able to hook you up with a nice Tokina or Sigma Lens if you need to keep the price down over a Canon "L" series. Another small problem with a DSLR is that you probably won't be happy with the photos until you learn how to use it (AUTOMATIC was not really meant to be taken seriously on those cameras.) The good news is you'll be entering a new hobby:-)

Here's a single triangle screen saver similar to the one that came with WINDOWS 3.1 I always had fun making variations of these. Once you get down how it works and some input commands you can make some simple arcade style games. THIS WON'T WORK IN A WINDOWS ENVIRONMENT. It probably has to do with the video memory allocation being so different. You'd likely have to boot to a true DOS 6.2 command prompt. SCREEN 12 CLS RANDOMIZE TIMER x = INT(RND * 640) x1 = INT(RND * 640) x2 = INT(RND * 640) y = INT(RND * 480) y1 = INT(RND * 480) y2 = INT(RND * 480) DO x = x + -1 x1 = x1 + -1 x2 = x2 + 1 y = y + 1 y1 = y1 + -1 y2 = y2 + -1 LINE (x, y)-(x1, y1), 14 LINE (x1, y1)-(x2, y2), 14 LINE (x2, y2)-(x, y), 14 IF X < 0 THEN x = x + 1 IF X > 640 THEN X = X - 1 IF X1 < 0 THEN x1 = x1 + 1 IF X1 > 640 THEN X1 = X1 - 1 IF X2 < 0 THEN x2 = x2 + 1 IF X2 > 640 THEN X2 = X2 - 1 IF Y < 0 THEN Y = Y + 1 IF Y > 480 THEN Y = Y - 1 IF Y1 < 0 THEN Y1 = Y1 + 1 IF Y1 > 480 THEN Y1 = Y1 - 1 IF Y2 < 0 THEN Y2 = Y2 + 1 IF Y2 > 480 THEN Y2 = Y2 - 1 LOOP I can't remember how I used to make the LOOP break. I used a tricky combo of STRINGS to make it reliable unlike the way it shows in the manual and help files. Blah can't sleep, remembered the STRING though. I used something like this; S$ = INKEY$ DO PRINT "Press "ESC" to exit" LOOP UNTIL S$ = CHR$(27) `esc key For some reason making S$ = INKEY$ made the code pay closer attention to key presses so you didn't get lag on slower systems (hehe 80386 processors)

QBasic is awesome. I went way beyond what you learn in college about it in my teen years and did some really cool stuff. Really its probably the best and easiest for a kid to learn. Its very straight forward though I'm not in the loop as to whats out there now days. If you see he's really enjoying QB you should try VB. It'll get more complicated, but if he likes it he'll learn it.

I'm not sure I can quit laughing.

This is a good idea. A parent should know there kid well enough to know what to do. The few times I actually got in trouble at school (that weren't related to simply not doing school work) were things that I didn't even do. I'm probably mental, but to this day I still get pissed off when I think about how I got scapegoated and the punishment I received from my parents. Sad part was while they were beating me for shit I didn't do they basically ignored my brother who turned out to be an awesome druggy loser.

At the HS in my home town the biology teacher, football couch, and any kids that they feel are cool enough hang out before school on the nice days and shoot pigeons in the parking lot. No joke.

That is really cool. I just picked up a certified 5mw laser for my observatory when I'm pointing out stars to groups.

I wouldn't doubt it. I scraped that much off my driveway at 7pm.

Wow, Love that photoshop hehe. Here's my yard from last weekend. To dark for photos when I got home tonight. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/EWhytsell/IMG_5840.jpg

Very good exposure of the snow:-)
-
But I have to much fun playing on it. I just made it in with my `97 Camry with about 10" of snow. I did lower the air pressure to 15lbs earlier today though and that helps tremendously.

I use this on my 1800ft driveway that routinely sees 3-5ft drifts. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f185/EWhytsell/IMG_1770.jpg Its a `44-`49 (can't really tell) Ford 9N. Its got calcium loaded rear tires. It does a great job, but chains would still help I'm just to cheap to buy them.

Not to get into a gun fight "hehe", but if needing a concealed firearm at any area in columbus that has a cheesecake factory was even remotely possible I think I'll just move back to WV and hide.

Space Shuttle launch Only Four More Left Till It Ends!!!
Tractor replied to Slomo Eric's topic in Pics and Vids
Thank god. They need to move on to something else and technologies are increasing all around them. Though I hope my buddy who works on the team that preps the shuttle for hauling back to Florida is gonna keep his job, but I guess he probably will since its government. -
Well at least they are gonna shoot it at deuterium. That's gotta get us some points towards are very own warp core right?

This is why I play EVE-Online. People have been caught using exploits, but they get banned and the game universe is so wide spread that it likely won't effect your game play.

Yeap. when I had a 2wd fullsize GM I used to pile snow in the bed. Works very well and it goes away without having to move it or store it.
