  1. I gave up on that contest once I realized it now gets submissions from around the nation and that you can vote as many times as you want for the same photo. Actually I've been meaning to drop in and talk to the guys at mid west about that. It was pretty cool when it was an Ohio thing.
  2. If he's acting to crazy I think I'd go for the lay down in the isle and hope he doesn't see me bit. If he's acting like he's in a hurry pulling on him would probably just get him to run off. I'd give him that option for sure. At least there if you do split him open there is a camera so I doubt anyone's gonna feel sorry for him.
  3. Seems like it could be a tricky legal situation to me. You weren't in any danger and self defence might not hold up. I guess it would be up to a judge, jury, and lawyers to figure out. You shoot and kill a few of them and you could be portrayed as "looking for a fight." This is kinda the situation I'm afraid of concerning CCW. I'd hate to think that I could have just given some dudes my wallet and been left alone, but some guy came riding in on a white horse and got me shot along with who knows who else and the property damage.
  4. I meet my wife for dinner up in north westerville all the time and sit in the parking lot watching the traffic do this same thing. If I were I cop I could nail 99% of everyone there. The tires never even stop spinning before they go.
  5. Or today is the day you go to bed, wake up the next day and tell your adviser to buy more of your index fund:-)
  6. I bet they couldn't, but a trader can fairly easily beat the S&P. On investopedia I've stayed 20% above the S&P for years on my long position account. My real money investments are up 300-400% over the S&P and stay there. Swing and Day trading is where its at.
  7. a giant metal box aint a big deal, until you try to install it over a pipe 5000ft down and spewing oil. It then gets pretty cool. Especially since yesturday the best idea was to drill a second well to try to stop it. That plan was gonna take 3-4 months to complete whle the oils still coming out.
  8. I can't imagine it being really hard. I've made circuits to cause my toyota pickups odd tail light/brake/flasher system work correctly with a GM vehicle's tail light system powering it before when I used to flat tow my 4x4 a lot. I used relays to cause a disconnection of the toyotas oddly wired stuff to make it controllable by GM's system. Very simple and effective. Also wattage of a bulb will have almost nothing to do with the circuits as long as the components are rated to handle the amp load the wattage would demand on them. Otherwise you end up with a part that acts like a fuse:-)
  9. I'm surprised no ones ever mentioned http://www.investopedia.com when stock questions come up. Lots of good info on there and also a simulator that tracks the real market minus 20 minutes. Maybe we should set up a game and see how we do. It could be fun.
  10. Yes EMOTION will kill you every time in the market. I've been trading since I was a teenager with my uncle showing me the way. I've lost big, I've gained big. You just have to develop the stomach for it.
  11. I figured some people would take it personal and I understand if your a good honest financial advisor who thinks only of the customer and sells only whats truly best for them. As to your doctor analogy, I wouldn't trust a doctor who gets paid a commission for recommending operations anymore than I'd trust a guy at a bank, or a car salesman. Bottom line, do your own research and go in informed. Actually yes scottrade can give me all the advise you listed since they have several offices all over columbus. I go to the office at ST RT 3 and polaris all the time to make deposits. They try to sell things to me all the time and give advice, but they are paid to do that. Don't misunderstand, I don't mean to offend and pick interweb fights. I just like people to be really informed when they go meet the wolves:-) For a good laugh, even my companies own retirement plan managers were telling us we could suspend contributions to our 401K in the middle of that recession. I wanted to tell them where to stick it, but was laughing inside that my company would hire those jokers.
  12. The best advice anyone who has done really well with their money will give you is STAY AWAY FROM FINANCIAL ADVISORS. The vast majority will have "THEIR" pocket as the focus of the advice. This is extremely true with banks. I know this because my wife is one and does work for a bank. She constantly has to sell things that won't be the best move for a person, but will earn them nice interest while making the bank a lot more. Her branch is a regional hub for her banks financial advisors to work out of and right now her portfolio "advised by me" and doing +400% better than the next best pro at their bank. Now if you have an adviser you can trust very well then go for it and forget everything I said. The best advice could also come from a family member who is very into the markets. Myself if I had a lot of money and wanted to keep it safe and growing for a bit I'd get an account with someone like Scottrade "I use and recommend them" and buy into a top rated mutual fund. Right now the markets are still way down with lots of money on the sidelines and 5yrs out you'll likely have done pretty well and can always move it around to make it into a nice retirement pot.
  13. If they are really tested like that then thats gonna be some law suit and interesting investigation and it also makes playing BP a much safer bet then it seemed to be.
  14. GS I know nothing about and ain't gonna touch it due to having no clue. BP I'm watching closely and will be day/swing trading it over the next few months/years because I already have some experience in offshore drilling and energy stocks with TEC (now gone, but was great for day trades), VAL, and DO both good swing trades at times.
  15. Starting a company is very easy. Just a couple simple forms from the state of ohio and the county your operating in and some fees. Also remember to register the DBA form with the state so you can correctly open and manage business bank accounts. As for insurance I use grange for everything personal and business and have addition coverage for my industry (wedding photography) through a couple of specialized firms.
  16. I've been thinking of getting a canoe or row boat soon. I've used kayaks a few times on white water, but I wanna be able to carry more stuff, camera gear, supplies, and maybe wife/daughter at times.

I agree BP is gonna be a good one for some gains if bought about anytime now. Might just wait maybe another week or 2, but its very important to watch the news. The longer it stays in negative light the lower it will go. It will bottom when things claim down and will regain most of its former price fairly quickly afterwards. So its a very good swing trade and I'm doing it.

    ISS fly over

    watch it again tonight.

    ISS fly over

The star SIRIUS (the brightest star viewable from the northern hemisphere) is still up and in that location just as its getting dark. The ISS became visible to the east of it tonight.

    ISS fly over

Just came back inside. Its angle allowed it to stay in view for a very long time this time.

    ISS fly over

The international space station flys over our area a few times per month at night and this time I figured I'd remind you guys. I know some will enjoy seeing it. Tonight from Westerville look South-Southwest at 9:11pm. It can easily be seen even from downtown because it will be the brightest thing in the sky other than the moon and maybe some aircraft. It will be moving steady, for a few minutes then disappear pretty quickly due to crossing into the earths shadow. A link to times in your zip code and more dates and info http://www.spaceweather.com/flybys/flybys.php?zip=43081

Yes, been enjoying it for the last 1.5-2 years with C, FITB, SIRI, URI, BA, and SMG mostly. The first few have been great with all the news causing volatility. URI and SMG have normal seasonal changes, and BA has been at such a good price its hard to pass up.

I agree, but I'll go further and say I'd hate to see them renew with Howard. He's to expensive and doesn't really bring much to SIRIUS anymore. Anyone see SIRIUS as a long term investment? I don't follow the new techy gizmos much so I keep thinking something will come along and remove their usefulness at some point, but I do day/swing trades on SIRIUS all the time because its just so news driven.
  24. The wife and I have been quite happy that we moved out of Westerville. From the sounds of things there I think we got out just in time.
  25. I've seen underwater cases at Mid West Photo in clintonville before. Not sure what all camera types they fit. Probably to expensive after buying everything.
